with great friends, and playing for the legendary crowds that attend Winter Jam!”

Presented by Holt International, Winter Jam’s 46-city Eastern U.S. tour will also feature GRAMMY®-nominated recording artist and internationally-renowned worship leader Kari Jobe (featuring Cody Carnes); GRAMMY®-nominated pop hitmakers Building 429; popular comedian and viral sensation John Crist; critically-acclaimed breakout hip-hop recording artist KB; GRAMMY®-nominated tour creators and hosts, NewSong; Dove Award-winning chart-topper Jordan Feliz; and a message from author, speaker and evangelist Nick Hall. “I can’t wait to see what God is going to do on Winter Jam 2018,” said tour creator and NewSong co-founder, Eddie Carswell. “Every year He amazes us with His presence and the people He draws to each venue to hear the Gospel. We hope everyone can make it out this year. It’s going to be a show to remember.”

Created and hosted by one of Christian music’s most iconic bands, NewSong, Winter Jam exploded from a single show in 1995 to become the genre’s benchmark tour. Throughout two decades, Winter Jam has helped provide a powerful platform for the Gospel in major arenas nationwide, consistently showcasing Christian music’s top artists.

Earlier this year Winter Jam was again ranked among the biggest first quarter tours in the world, landing at #4 on Pollstar’s “1Q YTD Worldwide 2017 Ticket Sales Top 100 Tours” chart. The tour’s annual West Coast leg is set to launch November 9 in Los Angeles with GRAMMY®, Dove, Billboard Music Award and BET Award-winning hip-hop trailblazer Lecrae at the helm.

Medical-Legal Partnership Launched In Northwest Indiana

IL for www.theindianalawyer.com

Indiana Legal Services is partnering with a Valparaiso-based health care provider to launch a first-of-its-kind medical-legal partnership program in northwest Indiana.

ILS is working with HealthLinc to provide no-cost, civil legal aid to patients who need legal assistance for matters related to their health. This medical-legal partnership is funded by grants from the Indiana Bar Foundation and Legacy Foundation.

“The medical-legal partnership, a relatively new healthcare service, has proven to have a major impact on the health of patients throughout the nation,” said Beth Wrobel, HealthLinc CEO. “Many health-harming factors have their roots in legal problems and create barriers to our patient’s ability to live healthy, productive lives.”

ILS will provide training to medical staff in all seven of HealthLinc’s clinics on how to identify needs that qualify for civil legal aid. These needs include insurance and benefits claims, substandard housing and criminal record expungement.

Eligible patients will work with attorney Emma Douglas to get their issues resolved at no cost. In addition, qualifying patients will also receive annual screenings for potential health-harming issues in their lives that may reveal a need for civil legal assistance.

“Community health centers are a vital way for our attorneys to connect with eligible clients in communities across our state,” said Jon Laramore, executive director of ILS. “We are excited to partner with HealthLinc to connect those who typically can’t afford an attorney with the resources to address legal needs that also impact their health.”

Indiana Legal Services already has partnerships with several health care providers including Eskenazi Health, Indiana University Health, and Community Health Network. Its partnership with Eskenazi’s Midtown Community Mental Health Clinic was named one of 2015’s outstanding medical-legal partnerships by the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership.

IU Men’s Swimming & Diving Ranked No. 1, Women No. 7 in CSCAA Poll

0

The Indiana University men’s swimming and diving team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)/TYR Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll released on Wednesday. The Hoosier women’s team is ranked in a tie for seventh in the country.

“It is an honor to be ranked No. 1,” IU head swimming coach Ray Looze said. “The last competition against Florida and Texas was extremely high-level against two of the very best teams in the country. We will do our very best to live up to this elite level status. I was very pleased to see our women move up to seventh after our quality win over Florida. In particular, our sprint relays were exceptional.”

The Hoosier men jumped five spots from the preseason poll after getting the 2017-18 season off to a tremendous start this past weekend, sweeping a two-day, double-dual meet with No. 2 Texas and No. 4 Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

The Longhorns are the three-time defending NCAA Champions, while Florida placed third last year at the NCAA’s for the second-straight year.

This marks the second-straight season that Indiana has moved to No.1 in the nation after sweeping Texas and Florida. Last year, Indiana went on to post an undefeated dual-meet record of 11-0. The Hoosier men have won 15-straight dual meets dating back to the 2015-16 season.

The IU women also started the year off well, sweeping No. 18 Florida in two meets, but falling to No. 3 Texas to move up three spots from the preseason rankings. For the meet, the two IU squads totaled 19 individual wins and an impressive seven relay victories.

ankings are compiled by CSCAA-member coaches and released on a bi-weekly basis.  The next polls will be released Nov. 8.

The No. 1/7-ranked Indiana Hoosiers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Friday, Oct. 27 when the team faces No. 15/12 Tennessee and No. –/15 Kentucky in a double-dual meet in Knoxville, Tenn.

Fake invoice sent by scammers impersonating Office of Attorney General

0

Starting around 12:30 p.m. today, Office of Attorney General staff members began receiving dozens of calls from people nationwide asking about an invoice emailed to them that appeared to come from the Office of Attorney General.

In awkward wording, the email stated: “Kindly find the enclosed invoice and advice ASAP. Thank you.”

The email contained the name of an individual who works for a state contractor followed by an address and phone numbers corresponding to the Office of Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

These invoices are not legitimate and should not be paid nor answered in any manner by those receiving them.

Further, those receiving these fake invoices are asked to file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Division in order to document this scam. Complaints may be filed here. Or call 1-800-382-5516.

Individuals should remember never to click on links in suspicious emails. Clicking on links can result in computer viruses and other harmful malware.

Indianapolis attorney ordered back to Guantanamo Bay

0

Marilyn Odendahl for www.theindianalawyer.com

Indianapolis attorney Richard Kammen, the lead defense attorney who represented the accused mastermind behind the bombing of the USS Cole, is being ordered to return to Guantanamo Bay after he and his co-counsel withdrew from the case over ethical concerns.

Since 2008, Kammen, of Kammen and Moudy, has been representing Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, who has been held as a prisoner of the United States since 2002. The attorney has shuttled back and forth to Guantanamo Bay for hearings and made trips to Washington, D.C., to review the classified documents related to the case.

However in mid-October, Kammen and his team quit after determining it was not ethical for them to continue representing al-Nashiri. The exact reason for the withdrawal is murky because much of the information has been deemed classified, but it appears to be related to the government listening to private conversations between the defendants and their attorneys.

Previously, microphones had been hidden in smoke detectors placed in the rooms where the lawyers and their clients met. Although the government had since offered assurances it was no longer eavesdropping, the defense discovered information that contradicted those promises.

An outside ethics expert consulted by Kammen and his team concurred they could not continue representing al-Nashiri. Also, in a separate review, Marine Brig. Gen. John Baker, chief defense counsel for the military commission defense organization, agreed the ethical situation required the civilian defense team be disbanded.

“I’m neither confirming nor denying anything about the al-Nashiri case other than what the chief defense counsel told us, that the government’s assurance was contradicted,” Kammen said.

Last week, the judge in the al-Nashiri case, Air Force Col. Vance Spath, stepped in. According to the Miami Herald, Spath did not find cause for the defense attorneys to quit and has ordered them to appear for a hearing at Guantanamo Bay next week.

Kammen had anticipated the military judge might order the defense team back to Guantanamo Bay. Currently, he is conferring with his co-counsel and the chief defense counsel to determine their next step.

After defending al-Nashiri for so long, Kammen struggled to describe his feelings at having to step down. Because much of the information surrounding the circumstances are classified, none of the defense attorneys could meet with al-Nashiri or tell him why they could no longer represent him.

Kammen said he came to like al-Nashiri and he did want to see the case through to the end. But, he noted the situation came to a point where he felt he was enabling a system that is unethical, so he quit.
