ABOUT THE JACKSONVILLE ICEMEN:
Founded in 2017, the Jacksonville Icemen are a member of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Proudly affiliated with the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and the Manitoba Moose (AHL), the Icemen play at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Downtown Jacksonville.

EDITOR FOOTNOTE:

The Evansville Icemen franchise was forced to move from Evansville because the City and Evansville Icemen couldn’t come to contractual terms concerning a 5 year contract renewal. Evansville Icemen owner Ron Geary deemed the proposed 5 year contact unacceptable and decided to relocate the team.

In 2016 the Evansville Icemen announced that they were moving to Owensboro, Kentucky to play in the historical Sports Center.  After it was deemed that it was too expensive to make it feasible to play Hockey in the Owensboro Sports Center the Evansville Icemen franchise was transferred to Jacksonvile, Florida.

After the Icemen left town a local businessman and the owner of VenueWoks started the Evansville Thunderbolts.  When it look like the Thunderbolts weren’t going to make it through the season Mayor Winnecke  discretely convinced the leadership of City Council to allow the City of Evansville to quietly take financial ownership of the Evansville Thunderbolts.

To date City Controller Russ Lloyd Jr. hasn’t given members of the Evansville City Council or the taxpayers of Evansville an accurate and detailed financial breakdown of the profits or losses for the Thunderbolts 2017 hockey season.  We have been told by creditable sources that the Evansville Thunderbolts lost many hundreds of thousands during the 2017 hockey season.

Very little has been said on how Mayor Winnecke plans to pay for the Evansville Thunderbolts Hockey 2018 team operating expenses?  we can’t find any reference to the funding of the Evansville Thunderbolts in the proposed 2018 City operating budget?
