Criminal Mischief at Mickey’s Kingdom
This morning, August 13th, as Evansville Police Department Parks Officers completed a walking patrol through Mickey’s Kingdom, officers discovered that someone destroyed the toilet in the park bathroom. The toilet was detached and broken into pieces. It appears some items, including a plastic water bottle, were also shoved down into the toilet. The vandalism is believed to have occurred overnight and could cost as much as $1,500 to replace and repair the toilet and plumbing.

Otters split doubleheader to open five-game series
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Onto the last leg of their 11-game road stint, the Evansville Otters opened a five-game series on Monday against the Schaumburg Boomers in a twin bill, taking the first game 5-4 while dropping the nightcap 5-3 at Wintrust Field.
GAME 1 – Evansville 5, Schaumburg 4
The Otters (34-45) fell on the right side of the seesaw battle with the Boomers (39-39) to open the night.
After falling behind on two separate occasions, Evansville tied the game at two in the fourth inning with a Logan Brown double to left-center field. The next inning, David Mendham hit a two-out two-RBI double to give the Otters a 4-2 lead.
Schaumburg battled back, and in the seventh inning tied the game to force extra innings. Into the eighth, Brown delivered again with his third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run.
Michael McAvene (Sv. 7) slammed the door in the last frame. The Boomers bunted over to third the inherited runner, but the Otters closer struck out the next two to kick the series off with a win.
Pitching in the seventh, Alex Valdez (1-0) surrendered his first run of the year, but took the win. Jake Joyce (3-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering the final lead change.
Randy Bednar, Mednahm and Brown each had two hits. Timely knocks from Mendham and Brown gave them multi-RBI efforts.
GAME 2 – Schaumburg 5, Evansville 3
After trading runs in the first inning, the Otters jumped ahead 2-1 in the top of the second with a Mendham RBI base hit. The lead did not last long, and in the home half of the frame Schaumburg garnered a two-run homer to jump ahead.
The Otters offense struggled to find an answer until the last inning. Meanwhile, the Boomers plated another two unearned runs in the fifth frame to pad their lead.
Moving to the seventh, the game was made interesting as Mendham picked up another RBI hit, putting runners on first and third with one out trailing by two. But, the next batter grounded into a double play to end the game.
Right-hander Terance Marin (0-7) took the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) in four and one-thirds innings. Jakob Meyer pitched in the final one and two-thirds and did not give up a run. Out of the bullpen for the Boomers, Aaron Glickstein (4-5) took the win after throwing in four and one-third innings of one-run ball.
Both Mendham and JJ Cruz each had a pair of hits, and the Otters were outhit 8-7 in the nightcap, after the Boomers outhit the Otters 10-9 in the opener.
Back to a regular schedule tomorrow, the Otters will see Schaumburg at 6:30 p.m. CT to play in the final three games of the series. Coverage is available on the Otters Digital Network and FloBaseball.
VANDERBURGH COUNTY PROSECUTOR DIANA MOERS SELECTED TO BE GUEST ON JOHNNY KINCAID PODCAST
In an upcoming episode of the “This Week With Johnny Kincaid” Podcast, will feature a conversation with Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers to learn more about fighting crime in Vanderburgh County.
Diana Moers heads the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office, overseeing a staff of over 70 people. The office of the Prosecutor is charged with prosecuting all types of crimes committed in Vanderburgh County, collecting child support, and several community outreach responsibilities.
Moers, an Evansville native and North High School graduate, was sworn into office in January 2023.
After college, Diana Moers began her career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Will County, Illinois, where she served as a deputy.
She returned to her home state of Indiana in 2010. She went to work in the Secretary of State’s Office at the Prosecution Assistance Unit- an arm of the Indiana Securities Division that aids prosecutors around Indiana in the prosecution of violations of the Indiana Securities and Loan Broker Acts.
She then served as Executive Director of the Indiana board for depositories under State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell. In her role as Executive Director, Diane worked with the Board (which includes the Governor’s office, the State Auditor, the Treasurer, the Director of the State Board of Accounts, the Director of the Indiana Department of Finance, as well as Bank and Credit Union CEOs), to ensure the safety of Indiana’s public funds in the event of bank fraud or failure.
Moers became Section Chief for the government litigation section of the Indiana Attorney General. In this role, she oversaw the State’s attorneys handling various federal and state litigation cases and assisted the Solicitor General as needed.
Then, Diana Moers returned to Evansville and ran for Vanderburgh County Prosecutor, was elected the first woman in history to hold the office of Vanderburgh County Prosecutor.

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb today announced Executive Director Kelly Dignin will retire in August from the Integrated Public Safety Commission (IPSC) after serving more than 28 years with the state.
“Kelly has been critical in improving the state’s public safety communication efforts to serve Hoosiers effectively and efficiently when they need it most,” Gov. Holcomb said. “She witnessed several evolutions of communicative technology and guided the state on how best integrate those technologies to support emergency responders in life-or-death scenarios.”
Dignin was appointed executive director of the IPSC in 2019 following 10 years as the director of the data exchange network. She started her career 32 years ago in public safety as an EMT and began her service with the State of Indiana as a dispatcher and training officer at the Lafayette State Police Post.
During her time as the executive director of IPSC, Dignin accomplished the following:
- Implemented the Emergency Response Operations to support the Emergency Response & Restoration Service in communication efforts with state, local and federal agencies during large events and disasters.
- Improved upon existing systems and launched new technology to better communicate during emergency situations. The new technology includes:
- CriticalConnect which allows IPSC to connect Indiana’s radio system to other states.
- SmartConnect which properly equips first responders with the ability to communicate if they are out of cellular range.
- Land Mobile Radio (LMR)- to – Long-Term Evolution (LTE) which connects the public safety radio system to a cellphone app to open lines of communication for responders who carry radios outside their coverage area.
- FirstAlert is a mobile App that connects educators, governments, organizations and businesses directly to the 911 center during emergency situations.
- Personnel Accountability allows the public safety agency to manage, communicate and track responders on scene of a structure fire or a large disaster to ensure safety.
“The implementation of new technology was so much fun,” Dignin said. “It was rewarding to see the benefits of these applications. These technologies truly embody IPSC’s motto of Saving Money and Saving Lives. I want to thank Gov. Holcomb because working for his administration has been the highlight of my career.”
Dignin’s last day is Aug. 16, 2024. A new leader for the agency will be determined soon.

This initiative aims to redirect semi-truck traffic away from the downtown area, thereby reducing congestion, enhancing road safety, and creating new opportunities for economic development.
The project honors the late Carl Schmitz, who served as Posey County Commissioner from 2012 to 2021 and played a crucial role in its inception.
