Indiana has 32 state parks and reservoirs throughout the state. The entrance permit grants gate entrance for all of 2018 for all state parks and reservoirs beginning Jan. 1.

The Inns gift card can be used at any of seven state park lodging facilities, as well as at the award-winning Pete Dye-designed golf course at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. The inns gift card can be used for lodging, meals in the dining rooms or gift card purchases.

The gift card can be used toward cabins (excluding inns-operated cabins), campsites, cottages, group camps, recreation buildings, rent-a-camp cabins, shelters, and youth & rally camps.

In addition to camping, the camp gift card also may be used to pay for daily or annual entrance fees, lake permits, horse tags, and many other items sold by a state park property, except for those operations run by private concessionaires.

Rajala rallies Eagles for 73-67 victory at UIndy

0

University of Southern Indiana senior forward Julius Rajala (Helsinki, Finland) scored a season-high 24 points and rallied the Screaming Eagles to a 73-67 victory over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI watched its record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC with its first victory at Nicoson Hall since 2012-13, while UIndy, which received votes for the top 25 polls last week, goes to 5-2 overall, 1-1 GLVC.

The Eagles and the Greyhounds battled to a 10-10 tie through the first eight minutes before UIndy methodically built a 10-point lead, 30-20, with just under four minutes left in the half. Rajala ignited the Eagles as they battled back in the final minutes of the first half, scoring six of his 10 first half points to lead an 11-2 run that got USI to within one at the intermission, 32-31.

Rajala continued the Eagles’ run into the second half, extending it to 13-2, with the first bucket after halftime that got USI its first lead since the opening minutes of the first half, 33-32. The senior forward would score eight of USI’s first 11 points of the second half as the Eagles and Greyhounds traded buckets through the first five minutes of the final half.

After finding themselves down four points, 46-42, Rajala propelled the Eagles on another run as USI exploded on a 20-2 offensive sprint to lead by 14 points, 62-48, with 6:10 to play. Rajala added another six points during the run, while junior guard Alex Stein (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman forward Emmanuel Little (Indianapolis, Indiana) dropped in four points each.

The Greyhounds, however, were not ready to concede the win to the Eagles, going on a 17-6 spurt to pull to within three points, 68-65, with 27 seconds to play. USI, which scored its last 11 points from the free throw line, sealed the game in the final seconds on a pair of free throws by Stein and three of four from junior forward Jacob Norman (Evansville, Indiana) to close out the 73-67 victory.

Individually for USI, Rajala scored his season-best and game-high 24 points by hitting a blistering 12-of-15 from the field. Stein followed with 13 points, while senior guard Marcellous Washington (Lexington, Kentucky) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

The Eagles will be idle for the next 14 days before returning to the friendly surroundings of the Physical Activities Center to play Urbana University December 15 at 7 p.m. USI has a 5-0 all-time series lead versus Urbana, 4-0 at the PAC.

Dahlstrom’s career day, big third quarter lift Eagles over Houn

0

Senior forward Morgan Dahlstrom (Grayslake, Illinois) scored a career-high 35 points as No. 14 University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball rallied from a nine-point first half deficit to defeat host University of Indianapolis, 73-66, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference bout Saturday afternoon.

Dahlstrom went 15-of-20 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe, while grabbing nine rebounds as the Screaming Eagles earned their eighth straight win.

USI (8-0, 2-0 GLVC) used a dominating effort in the third quarter that saw the Eagles outscore the Greyhounds, 21-5. The Eagles held UIndy to just 1-of-12 (.083) shooting and forced the Greyhounds into six third-quarter turnovers as they turned a 41-37 halftime deficit into a 58-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

UIndy (1-7, 0-2 GLVC), which trailed 71-54 with four minutes to play in the game, made a late charge to make things interesting; but the damage the Eagles inflicted in the first 15 minutes of the second half proved to be too much for the Greyhounds to overcome.

In addition to Dahlstrom, who also had a pair of blocks, the Eagles got 13 points from senior guard/forward Kaydie Grooms (Marshall, Illinois) as well as nine points, six assists and four steals from junior guard Alex Davidson (Salem, Indiana). Junior forward Kacy Eschweiler (St. Charles, Missouri) added eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks to the Eagles’ cause.

Senior guard Martha Burse had 28 points and five steals to lead the Greyhounds.

The Eagles return to action December 16 at 3 p.m. when they resume non-conference play against NAIA opponent Harris-Stowe State University at the Physical Activities Center. USI visits 2017 NCAA II Tournament participant Lincoln Memorial University December 19 before finishing the non-conference slate December 31 against Grace College at the PAC.

Luke Messer Statement on Tax Cut Bill Passing Senate Committee Senator Joe Donnelly needs to deliver

0
Rep. Luke Messer issued the following statement today after the Senate Budget Committee Passed the President’s tax cut bill.
“There is momentum to deliver on President Trump’s campaign promise to give American workers a pay raise,” Messer said. “Now, the full Senate needs to act. Hardworking Hoosiers deserve a tax cut, and Indiana’s Senator Joe Donnelly needs to deliver. This is the Senate’s chance to prove to the American people that it can get something done.”
Senator Joe Donnelly has still refused to say whether or not he will support the President’s tax cut pan.
Messer voted to pass the House version of the plan earlier this month.

BREAKING NEWS: Body Camera Footage Released Amid Rumors On Fatal Police Chase

0
The Evansville Police Department releases body camera footage of the fatal police chase that left a brother and sister dead, 7 month-old Prince, and 2 year-old Princess Carter.

The press conference comes after social media rumors of a EPD cruiser hitting the back of McFarland’s vehicle, and officer’s pulling guns on the victims.

Snap chat video from a neighbor shows officer’s pulling their weapons on the mother and child.

Sergeant Cullum with the Evansville Police Department released a statement, and held a press conference to address the social media rumors.

“With the stress and the actual lack of contact he had with the suspects vehicle, I can see why the officer made that misidentification.”

Video shows the officers realizing the car was not the suspects car, and calling for emergency response.

The two body camera videos from both officers shows the pursuit, stopping short of showing their actions to save the two young children injured.

The video shows the officers tailing McFarland, but not striking the back of his vehicle as some people on social media think.

Sergeant Cullum says officers followed department policy.

“We are using our training and our experience, our department guidelines, and statutory issues to make those split second decisions.”

The mother Janae Carter, and the children’s father Terrence Barker were driving on Linwood avenue when 27 year-old Frederick McFarland running from police, crashed into their vehicle.

After an investigation, police say McFarland ran threw the stop sign on Monroe Avenue before crashing into the Carter’s PT Cruiser.

Frederick McFarland remains hospitalized under police guard and is expected to face charges of felony fleeing, murder and more.

No. 14 University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball used a late 7-0 run to hold of visiting Lewis University, 67-56, in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Thursday evening at the PAC.

The Screaming Eagles (7-0, 1-0 GLVC) led by as many as 18 points late in the third quarter, but the Flyers cut USI’s lead to 10 by the end of the period and to two with less than five minutes to play in the game. USI, however, held the Flyers to just two points throughout the final 4:45 of the contest as it held on for the 11-point win.

Senior guard/forward Kaydie Grooms (Marshall, Illinois) had a game-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and three blocks to lead the Eagles. Senior forward Morgan Dahlstrom (Grayslake, Illinois) finished with 17 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Randa Harshbarger (Philo, Illinois) added six points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Junior guard Alex Davidson (Salem, Indiana) chipped in nine points and a pair of blocks, while junior forward Kacy Eschweiler (St. Charles, Missouri) contributed eight points and six rebounds.

Junior forward Jessica Kelliher led the Flyers (4-3, 0-1 GLC) with 16 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Tierney Lockett finished with 15 points.

The Eagles, who held the Flyers to just 28.4 percent (21-74) shooting, return to action Saturday at noon (CST) when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the University of Indianapolis in a GLVC contest. The Greyhounds (1-6, 0-1 GLVC) suffered a 76-71 road setback to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday evening.

1st Quarter
USI made five of its first seven shots from the field to build an early 11-2 lead; but a 0-for-8 shooting effort to end the period allowed the Flyers to close the Eagles’ lead to 13-8. Eschweiler had four points to lead the Eagles, who went 5-of-15 (.333) from the field.

2nd Quarter
Keyed by a trio of three-pointers by Grooms and Davidson, the Eagles used a 12-0 run to turn a three-point lead into a commanding 25-10 advantage less than four minutes into the second frame. The Flyers, however, outscored the Eagles, 11-4, throughout the final six minutes of the half to close the gap. Grooms had six points in the second quarter to lead USI, which went into the break with a 29-21 lead.

3rd Quarter
The Eagles scored the first 10 points of the second half to extend their lead to 39-21 with just over six minutes to play in the period. Lewis, however, used a 10-2 run late in the period to cut the Eagles’ cushion to 49-39 heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

4th Quarter
USI saw its 10-point lead dwindle to just two points with just under five minutes to play in the game. The Eagles, however, responded by limiting the Flyers to just two points throughout the final 4:45 of the contest as it held on for the 11-point win. Dahlstrom and Grooms each had six points to lead the Eagles in the final period, while Harshbarger added five points and three rebounds.
