Arrest Made after Deputies Respond to Home Invasion

0
A Vanderburgh County man is in jail today after allegedly committing a home invasion in Grandin Pointe subdivision (formerly Westbrook Trailer Park).

On Thursday, December 7, 2017 at approximately 11:00 AM a resident in the 6000 block of Springfield Drive called 911 to report a home invasion. The resident explained that a relative, Mr. Sean Michael Keith, kicked in the door to his home and threatened his family with a knife. The resident reportedly produced a handgun, after which the suspect fled on foot.

The Sheriff’s Office located Mr. Keith walking near Saint Joseph Avenue and took him into custody without further incident. A motive for the attack has yet to be determined, although combined drug intoxication is believed to have been the primary factor.

Mr. Keith was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and will make an initial court appearance on Friday.

ARRESTED:

Sean Michael Keith (pictured above), 28, of Evansville. Burglary as a Level 5 Felony, Intimidation as a Level 5 Felony, Criminal Mischief as a Class B Misdemenor

Presumption of Innocence Notice: The fact that a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

We hope that todays “IS IT TRUE ” will provoke “…honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?”

IS IT TRUE last night Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding (D) and County Councilman James Raben (R) raised money for the  Santa’s Clothes Club and Saint Vincent’s Food Pantry?  …they held an extremely successful charitable event that raised over $8,000 for Santa’s Clothes Club and Saint Vincent’s Food Pantry? …this event was held at the Oak Meadow County Club?  …we were taken back by how many people attended this fundraiser? …it was guesstimated that well over 300 plus people attended worthily charitable this event? …we must admit that we never seen so many Democrats and Republicans in one area enjoying each other and having a few drinks talking about every subject imaginable?

IS IT TRUE that the City County Observer gives five (5) cheers to Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding (D) and County Councilman James Raben (R) for raising money for Santa’s Clothes Club and Saint Vincent’s Food Pantry? … we are glad to hear that this charitable fundraiser shall become an annual event?

IS IT TRUE we are told that the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s funds to conduct investigations of homicides for 2017 has been depleted? …it looks like rampant drug use in our region has finally taken its financial toll on the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s 2017 budget?

IS IT TRUE during last nights charitable fundraiser we observed the two Vanderburgh County Commission candidates having a positive non-political conversation?  …it’s refreshing to see two political rivals laugh and joke with each other?…we expect that Mr. Hammer and Mr. Duckworth will continue this type of positive inter-reaction during the entire campaign?

IS IT TRUE that Mike Duckworth is expected to announce that he is running for the Vanderburgh County Commission District #2 seat in the upcoming Republican primary on January 11, 2018?

IS IT TRUE we are told that Vanderburgh County Commission candidate Steve Hammer has raised $41,321 in the months of November and December?  …when we are informed on what other political candidates have raised towards their elections we will be glad to announce those figures also?

IS IT TRUE we have been told that the At-Large City Councilman Jonathan Weaver (D) may looking at a creative way to attract another grocery store to locate on North Main? …we give Mr. Weaver five (5) cheers for his effort?

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that many citizens are extremely pleased with the way District #77 State Representative Ryan Hatfield is conducting himself?

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that the two Republican County Vanderburgh Commissioners are trying to convince members of the County Council to renovate and combined both offices costing over $200,000 dollars? … members of the Vanderburgh County Council has rejected this idea so far?

Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Are you pleased to see Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding (D) and County Councilman James Raben (R) join together to raise money for local charity?

Deadline Approaching For Healthcare Enrollment

There are only eight days left to sign up for healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act. If you need healthcare coverage for 2018 December 15th is the deadline.

Enrollment in the Hoosier state is up 19 percent this year with more people signing up than ever before. If someone doesn’t enroll in some form of healthcare they could face a tax penalty.

Experts say even if you already have a plan it’s a good idea to double check their options.

CCO State House Editor Gail Reicken Comments On Legislative Fight Against Opioids

1

Sen Merritt has announced his legislative goals on the fight against opioids.

He says this year he wants the legislature to pass mandatory reporting to INSPECT , a statewide drug take back program, mandatory lockable vials and reports of Naloxone accessible to providers.

Sen Merritt and Retired Sen Pat Miller have been leaders in drug issues for several years. But one drug issue that our State seems desperate for this same kind of energy is Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

NAS occurs when a baby is born dependent on the opioid because mother was taking it. It is costly to attend to baby while in the hospital, baby can have lifelong complications and professionals have told stories of the horrific withdrawal infants suffer.

There has been legislation to provide a structure for gathering data, coordinating efforts and presenting findings to the Commission on the Improvement of the Status of Children (CISC).

CISC’s Child Safety and Services Committee has as one of its 2017 three year goals “ to coordinate snd communicate child safety efforts with Indiana Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative”.

Let’s hope the CISC steps up efforts and joins in with Sen Merritt where productive to continue aggressive progress on lessoning NAS  in our infants.

Horning Enters GOP Primary Race For US Senate

0

Freedom, IN – Americans want options. We have unlimited choices in coffee, shoes, electronics, cell service…everything, in fact, excepting whatever politicians control.

It’s literally a shame that only two political parties can fully participate in our democratic processes. But it’s even more of a shame when both of those two parties offer only one option: more debt, more inflation, more wars, more regulations, and of course more corruption; meaning less peace, prosperity, security and freedom.

The Republican Party’s platform is actually quite good; it’s yet another shame that with a total lock on both federal and state political power, the GOP has been spitting on their own ideals.

Until today, it was hard to find any substantive differences between the Republican Party candidates for the Indiana US Senate seat.

But today, I’m throwing my hat into the ring as a Republican Party candidate for US Senate, and I have a plan to set things right. I am putting peace, prosperity, Rule of Law, real security, and (you know I’m big on this) freedom, on the ballot.

The Republicans Can’t Even Cut Taxes

The Republicans Can’t Even Cut Taxes

Dr. Richard Moss, candidate for Congress, criticizes the House Tax Bill

Jasper, IN: Dr. Richard Moss, candidate for Congress, wondered what Republicans were good for if not cutting taxes.

“It’s a bill only a RINO would love.  If Republicans can’t be counted on to make pro-growth, cross-the-board tax cuts what good are they?”

“They couldn’t repeal Obamacare after seven years of promises.  They can’t cut spending, balance the budget, or reduce the size of government.  They won’t reform entitlements.  They can’t secure our southern border.  They won’t rein in the out of control federal courts.  They don’t discuss term limits. They refuse to defund sanctuary cities, the EPA, or Planned Parenthood.  They don’t defend our culture.  They won’t end DACA, amnesty, or the ‘Diversity Visa.’  They continue importing Syrian Muslim “refugees.”  And they can’t even cut taxes without messing it up.  What are Republicans good for if not cutting taxes?”

“The Republicans want to cut the corporate tax rate from a punitive rate of 35%, one of the highest in the developed world, to 20%, a pro-growth cut that would make America more competitive and encourage corporations to repatriate their earnings and invest in the US.  This would create jobs and economic growth, a worthy goal.  But they are doing it on the backs of upper-middle and upper income Americans.  Some would receive a paltry tax cut hardly worth the political capital, while others would see an actual tax increase.  It is counterproductive.”

“The House Plan consolidates the current seven tax brackets into four: 12%, 25%, 35%, and 39.6%.  There is also a new ‘millionaire’s’ bracket of 45.6%, something even Barack Obama did not try to do.  There are minor tax cuts in the new rates.  The bill doubles the standard deduction from $12,000 to $24,000 for couples.  But it abolishes the personal exemption, which deducts $4,050 per person in the family including the filer.  If you have a household with four or more individuals you are losing more than gaining with doubling the standard deduction ($12,000).”

“This bill abolishes the deduction for state and local income taxes.  It has reduced the property tax deduction allowing only for a maximum $10,000 deduction.  It also limits the mortgage interest deduction to $500,000 worth of mortgage interest on homes purchased after the enactment date, but not on existing mortgages.  It eliminates deductions for charitable donations.  This will hurt those who deduct their state and local income and property taxes (if greater than $10,000) especially in conjunction with the loss of the mortgage interest deduction and charitable donations.  It will reduce the value of one’s home and deincentivize charitable giving.  Many individuals, not just in high tax states will pay more in taxes even after the other cuts.”

“It eliminates other important deductions for medical expenses, long term care, personal casualty losses, tax preparation fees, moving expenses, adoption expenses, alimony, interest on student debt, qualified tuition payments, and some contributions for educational savings accounts.”

The bottom line is that House Republicans are asking American taxpayers to give up important deductions for minimal tax cuts that do little or nothing to put money back in taxpayer’s pockets or drive economic growth – all for the sake of its vaunted corporate tax cut (which accounts for a mere 9% of tax revenue for the government).  If it were a massive, cross the board, Reaganesque tax cut, say a flat tax with a rate of 18%, for example, than such sacrifices might be acceptable.  But all it takes is a single Democrat administration to undo the minimalist tax cuts and raise rates again.  But in the meantime, taxpayers will have lost critical deductions, including state and local income taxes, and will then see large tax increases.  Many will see them anyway under the current plan.  Because the Republicans are uniformly incapable of making free market arguments, they have even resorted to playing class warfare by adding a new higher ‘millionaire’s’ bracket.”

“The plan doesn’t allow for meaningful cuts because Republicans have no plans to cut government and indeed the current plan is expected to balloon the debt by $1.5 trillion over ten years.  This bill will be very unpopular to many Republican voters.  Thus, it is a form of political suicide.  It also manages to increase the number of people not paying any federal income tax, which accentuates the moral hazard already built into the system whereby more and more of our fellow citizens vote in bigger government since they pay no price.”

“It is yet another example of how the Republican Congress cannot be trusted to do anything.  Not even something that should come naturally like cutting taxes.  They are scarcely different than the Democrats and even borrow their Marxist rhetoric.  President Ronald Reagan would have nothing to do with this plan.  Republicans should cut the corporate rate and leave the rest alone and then get back to repealing Obamacare, reigning in the federal courts, and securing our borders, all more important matters for the country.  The Republicans have failed us again.”

AG Curtis Hill Participates In Statewide Launch Of TV And Radio PSAs Warning Against Dangers Of Drug Abuse

1

Attorney General Curtis Hill announced today his office is partnering with the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association (IDEA) and Indiana Broadcasters Association to launch a series of statewide public-service announcements discouraging drug abuse.

The PSAs feature actors portraying everyday individuals facing choices that could lead to long-term consequences.

“Each generation must rise to the challenge of teaching personal responsibility and wise decision-making,” Attorney General Hill said. “This role begins within families, with strong mentoring by fathers and mothers, but it extends also to public servants in every community and at the state and federal levels. In line with these priorities, education and prevention efforts must remain robust components of our efforts to fight drug abuse.”

The ads will air on 200 TV and radio stations throughout the state.

“A vital part of our organization’s mission is participating in programs to educate the public concerning the hazards of drug abuse,” said IDEA Training/Operations Director Gary Ashenfelter. “That’s why we’re investing in these PSAs. Prevention efforts can save people’s lives.”
