USI Volleyball signs Hegg and Litteken for 2018

0

University of Southern Indiana Volleyball Head Coach Leah Mercer announced the signings of 5-foot-11 middle blocker Sidney Hegg (Menasha, Wisconsin) and 6-foot-1 middle hitter Taylor Litteken (Foristell, Missouri) to join the Screaming Eagles in 2018.

“Both Sidney and Taylor will add much needed height as the front line of our defense,” Mercer said.

During her senior year at Neenah High School, Hegg was named first team All-Conference and earned honorable mention All-State with 96 total blocks, 74 digs, 29 aces and 250 kills on a .387 attacking percentage. She led her team to the 2016 state championship as well as a regional championship in 2017.

Hegg played club volleyball for FC Elite Volleyball Club racking up 97 blocks, 23 aces, 234 kills and led the team in attacking percentage at .440 in 2017.

“We are excited to have Sidney join us in January,” Mercer said. “Her versatility in the middle and right side will add power to our offense in 2018.”

Currently a senior at Francis Howell High School, Litteken has earned letters in volleyball, basketball, track and lacrosse. This season, she had 241 kills with a .375 attacking percentage, 46 blocks, 15 aces and 120 digs.

In 2016, Litteken helped her team to a district championship and a runner-up finish in the state tournament. She played club volleyball for High Performance St. Louis.

“We are thrilled to have Taylor join us in the fall,” Mercer continued. “We are looking to her to spark our team on and off the court.”

IN THIS MOMENT Live in Concert in Evansville

0

Tuesday February 6, 2018 6:30 PM (doors at 5:30 PM) Victory Theatre

With Special Guests: P.O.D., New Years Day, DED On-Sale: Friday, November 17th at 10 AM CST

Live Nation presents In This Moment live in concert on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Victory Theatre in Evansville along with special guests P.O.D., New Years Day and DED.

Throughout history, art rejoices and revels in the wisdom of women. On their sixth full–length album Ritual, In This Moment unearth a furious and focused feminine fire from a cauldron of jagged heavy metal, hypnotic alternative, and smoky voodoo blues. “It’s like we’re going into the next realm,” asserts Maria. “I had a conviction of feeling empowered in my life and with myself. I always write from a

personal place, and I needed to share that sense of strength. I’ve never been afraid to hold back. Sometimes, I can be very suggestive. However, I wanted to show our fans that this is the most powerful side of myself and it’s without overt sexuality. It’s that deeper serious fire inside of my heart.”

The group spent two years supporting their biggest album yet 2014’s Black Widow. Upon release, it seized their highest position to date on the Billboard Top 200, bowing at #8. Simultaneously, it clinched #3 on the Hard Rock Albums chart and spawned a series of hits such as “Sick Like Me,” “Big Bad Wolf,” and “Sex Metal Barbie”—all cracking 8 million Spotify streams each and topping Rock Radio.

Meanwhile, the band’s signature smash “Whore” crossed the 20–million mark. Following a high-profile summer 2016 tour with Kron and Rob Zombie, the duo began writing.

“We always want to grow and evolve,” said Maria. That progression shines through the first single “Oh Lord.” A minimal drum and handclap echoes while guitars shiver and shake as the frontwoman delivers an undeniable refrain. Elsewhere, “Roots” practically opens up the earth with its sheer seismic force, while “Witching Hour” dances around the flames to a new wave-inspired groove.

The Ritual has begun, and In This Moment ignite a brighter fire than ever before here. It’s an evolution. It’s a statement. It’s In This Moment.

IS IT TRUE NOVEMBER 16, 2017

2

We hope that todays “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE we have been informed that the City of Evansville just went into a meeting around 9:00 AM this morning with the Indiana State Board of Accounts auditors?  …at todays exit conference the State Board of Accounts auditors told city officials what they discovered while doing an audit review of the City of Evansville 2016 budget year?  …we hear that some of the findings by the auditor are very interesting?

IS IT TRUE that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners are considering an ordinance establishing a County Riverboat Casino Fund ?  … attached is the link to this ordinance for you to read?

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A COUNTY RIVERBOAT CASINO FUND

…we wonder if this ordinance has the proper “checks and balances”  in order to insure that these funds will be used by our County Commissioners for much needed capital projects?  …we wonder what do you think about this proposed ordinance?

IS IT TRUE that we understand that Deaconess Hospital will now be offering online doctor visits?…this is a forward looking action to take and we congratulate the management team at Deaconess for this decision?…telemedicine as such things are referred to is a tremendous cost saving activity in addition to offering potentially life-saving diagnostics in an emergency case prior to transporting a patient to a care facility?…it is good to see an Evansville business being an early adopter in such an impactful field like telemedicine?

IS IT TRUE that confidential sources tells us at the last Solid Waste Committee meeting the issue of the cost of new garbage cans was discussed? …we are that the costs to purchase new garbage cans may be a bit pricey?

IS IT TRUE we are pleased that the “Trolley of Evansville District” met its fund raising goal?  …we would like to congratulate Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville and the Franklin Street Events Association for raising more than $25,000 for this project?  …because this group raised the necessary funds they will now receive a $25,000 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority?  …the “Trolley of Evansville District” plans are to connect bars, hotels and restaurants located on West Franklin Street, Main Street, and Haynie’s Corner? …we would also like to give five (5) cheers to Amy Word-Smith for spearheading this fundraiser?

IS IT TRUE that UCLA head basketball coach and former IU all American Steve Alford left three of the UCLA player in China after the three morons decided to shoplift sunglasses from a mall in a foreign country?…we understand that President Trump intervened to get the three thieves released to come home without the consequences often associated with committing crimes overseas?…once upon a time an American punk named Michael Fay exercised his American freedom of expression to graffiti a car in Singapore and found himself on the receiving end of a caning?…Fay was sentenced to 6 strokes with a cane but President Bill Clinton talked it down to 4?…a caning is certainly worse than the paddling(s) some of us older folks got in school but it has the same impact on future behavior?…we have not heard of Michael Fay painting anything since then nor have we heard of any American painting a car in Singapore?…perhaps the three punk ball players from UCLA should have faced a caning too?…we will not be surprised to hear about them stealing again as there was no consequence?…perhaps their flight from justice will ruin their lives?

Channel 44 News: Vanderburgh County Commissioners Approve Collective Bargaining Agreement

0
The Vanderburgh County Commissioners approved the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s office collective bargaining agreement for the next three years.

It includes some new and creative incentives to retain some of those county workers. Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies say they understand the county’s budget restrictions so they won’t be taking any pay raises.

Instead, the team added some creative incentives to both attract new talent and keep the remaining deputies.

There aren’t many changes between the last contract but this version includes a college incentive to help fight debt and a larger clothing allowance.

“As the sheriff it’s important for the deputies to have good working benefits in order to recruit, hire and train people and then retain them law enforcement has seen a jump of people leaving one law enforcement agency for better salary and benefits,” says Sheriff Wedding.

The collective bargaining agreement will be heard in front of the County Council on December 6th.

Head Of Alcohol Commission ‘Bothered’ By Lobbyist Booze Deal

0

IL for www.theindianalawyer.com

The chairwoman of a legislative commission reviewing Indiana’s antiquated alcohol laws said Tuesday that she was troubled by the actions of two powerful lobbying groups that recently announced a deal which they claim will lead to the elimination of a retail Sunday alcohol sales ban.

The Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers and the Indiana Retail Council said Friday that they resolved longstanding differences that previously led state lawmakers to give up on efforts to overturn the Prohibition-era Sunday carryout sales ban.

Liquor store owners represented by the beverage association agreed to drop their opposition to Sunday sales, which they previously argued would allow grocery stores to siphon away business on a major shopping day. In return, retailers will oppose a proposal that would allow convenience and grocery stores to sell cold beer — a right primarily enjoyed by liquor stores.

But Bev Gard, who leads the Alcohol Code Revisions Commission, says the groups are “really jumping the gun” at a time when her commission is still doing work at the Legislature’s request. What’s more, she noted the agreement would cut out convenience stores that are seeking the ability to sell cold — and not just warm — beer.

“The way the issue was framed, it sounds like these two associations have come to a compromise, so that’s going to be the new policy for the state,” said Gard, a former Republican state Senator, who said she was “bothered” by the announcement.

Any actual change in law will require legislation signed by the governor.  But Indiana’s package liquor stores, which have donated generously to lawmakers’ campaign funds, have enjoyed outsized influence for decades.

“Obviously they’ve had their way for a long time,” said Gard, who characterized the lobbying influence of as “significant.”

The beverage retailers association did not respond to a request for comment on Gard’s remarks.

The commission Gard oversees was created this year by the Legislature after debate over who can sell cold beer blew up into a major legislative fight.

It touched off when Jay Ricker, owner of Ricker’s convenience stores, found a legal loophole allowing him to sell cold beer, so long as he obtained a restaurant permit and sold prepared food.

The ensuing debate pitted populists who argued for free markets against entrenched business interests, who say alcohol is a controlled substance that needs to be tightly regulated and overseen by a trusted industry. The commission was tasked with sorting through the arguments, as well the state’s entire alcohol code, in order to make recommendations to lawmakers before session starts in January.

On Tuesday, commission members voted to recommend that the ban on Sunday retail alcohol sales be repealed. But they held off on making a recommendation over whether convenience and grocery stores should be allowed to sell cold beer.

Ricker noted that many retailers had been on his side — until now.  He also characterized the lobbying groups’ deal as “a corrupt bargain.”

“That’s because you have two sides that flipped their positions so that they each got something they wanted,” said Ricker. “But they each look very hypocritical.”

But not everyone is opposed, including state Sen. Ron Alting, who leads the Indiana Senate committee which oversees alcohol policy.

The Lafayette Republican called it “good, good, good.”

“It hasn’t been the fault of the General Assembly that you don’t have Sunday sales,” said Alting, who has received more contributions from liquor store interests than any other lawmaker in recent years. “What you need to do is blame both the package stores and big boxes. They had never come to an agreement.”
