IS IT TRUE JANUARY 29, 2018
We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUEâ€Â will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?â€
IS IT TRUE we wonder what the current status of the $750,000 water and sewer bill that the owners of the McCurdy allegedly owe to the Evansville Water and Sewer Utilities Department?  …we have been told that the people who lease apartments at the McCurdy currently have running water? …if any of our readers have an excessive water bill that isn’t paid current their water would be cut off?
IS IT TRUE when a business has excessive operating costs and serious long-term debt they don’t do another capital project for a while?  …last week the Mayor and At-large City Councilwomen Michelle Mercer announced a private and public partnership to raise funds to designed and develop the Roberts Park property?  …its obvious that government isn’t ruined like a business?
IS IT TRUE its time that the self-proclaimed conservatives on City Council demand a full and detailed disclosure of all the operating expenses of the Evansville Thunderbolt Hockey team that the City of Evansville is responsible for?
Senate Committee Approves Tougher Abortion Regulations
By Emily Ketterer
TheStatehouseFile.com
INDIANAPOLIS—Legislation that would that would add more reporting and tracking requirements to Indiana’s abortion regulations passed a Senate committee Wednesday.
Among the provisions in the 12 pages of Senate Bill 340 are more inspections of abortion clinics, additions to informed consent forms patients must review and sign, and the reporting of complications to the Indiana Department of Health.
Those in opposition to the bill said the regulations are unnecessary while those in support saw them as a contribution to the safety of women.
Part of the bill mandates an annual inspection of abortion clinics and requires more information from those applying to open clinics. Sen. Liz Brown, R-Fort Wayne, one of the authors of the bill, said it’s important to know what is happening inside clinics.
“There’s that infamous abortion doctor in Philadelphia where women died,†Brown said. “We’d want to know if there’s a physician out there who are killing women because of surgical complications or administering medicine improperly.â€
Lynne Bunch, the vice president of patient services at Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, said the legislation is not about safety and the bill would eliminate the safe access to abortion.
“Decades of data also show abortion in the United States is one of the safest procedures in medicine,†Bunch said. “Please do not set up a system whereby the avenue to safe legal abortion is prevented with more hurdles and will eventually eliminate it.â€
Christina Francis, an anti-abortion OB-GYN from Fort Wayne, said the complications that arise from abortions often go unreported, making informed consent difficult.

“Unfortunately, many abortion providers report a complication rate of zero or nearly zero, but this is only because many of them do not see their own complications,†Francis said. “Many women present themselves to a local emergency room, and their complications are not tied back to their abortions.â€
Sue Swayze of Indiana Right to Life said they have been working for years to get regulations on reporting complications.
SB 340 identifies by name 27 possible complications that the bill says can be linked back to abortions. The bill adds a number of questions that must be asked of patients who show up in the hospital with any of the complications, which must be reported to the health department.
Haylee Brannon, who had an abortion, said the list of psychological and physical complications to report is meant to shame women who have had one.

“I would have reported how mentally and emotionally exhausting it was to jump through so many hoops in order to obtain a procedure I knew I was certain I wanted and I knew was 99 percent safe,†Brannon said. “I would have reported that the only trauma I endured was from pulling into clinic lined with protestors waving posters of dead babies.â€
Another provision expands informed consent, requiring physicians to tell women of alternatives such as the Safe Haven law. This law allows a person to anonymously surrender an infant to an emergency services establishment without risk of arrest or prosecution.
Physicians must also provide all information about the medication before prescribing an abortion-inducing drug, which is more commonly used today.
Swayze said the drug regulation is important because it is currently not as regulated and women are four times more likely to experience a complication if they take an abortion-inducing pill.
“I don’t want them to not understand the chemical activity that is going to be happening in their body,†Swayze said.
The bill passed in a 6-1 vote. Sen. Tim Lanane, D-Anderson, was the only member in opposition to the bill. He said the bill is unconstitutional and takes away the right of women to choose.
“This is nothing but big brother state government sticking their nose into an area of a person’s life where they have no business knowing about,†Lanane said.

DAN RATHER RETURNS
Dan Rather has a new weekly gig, not on ordinary television but on a YouTube feed operated by what’s called TYT, “The Young Turks†ultra-progressive talk channel.
Rather’s resume is becoming too bulky for a neat one-paragraph bio. The successor to Walter Cronkite, he was the face of CBS News for more than two decades before being ousted over his flawed reporting on President George W. Bush’s National Guard service during the Vietnam War.
Circumstances of that unfortunate period can be cast many different ways, as Rather himself made clear in a book tediously detailing his side of the story. But even before that, he was a quirky journalist: a cross between Edward R. Murrow and Inspector Clouseau.
At the height of his CBS career, Rather was accosted on a Manhattan street by a seemingly deranged individual demanding, “Kenneth, what’s the frequency?†The man claimed CBS was beaming signals directly into his brain. Rather was shaken; R.E.M. later made a hit song out of it.
Then there was the time in 1980 when Rather did a lengthy “60 Minutes†report on the war in Afghanistan, reporting amid gunfire from a mountaintop overlooking a Soviet encampment. The Washington Post’s Tom Shales observed that Rather, dressed in peasant togs, appeared to be, “Dan Rather as Stuart Whitman playing Dan Rather. Or Dan Rather playing Stuart Whitman playing Dan Rather. Perhaps it’s all part of the New Reality.â€
Shales called him “Gunga Dan.â€
But much as Bernie Sanders has, late in life, captured the imagination of millennials in search of the reason, Rather has become a social media star. His Facebook page has over 2 million likes, his “News and Guts†page has another million, and he pops up regularly as a cable-TV commentator.
Now, in his TYT show, “The News with Dan Rather,†he describes himself as “An old TV newsman, leaning on new media, to connect with our future.†He’s providing a dose of news with a dash of commentary.
He warns that constant media coverage about who will get indicted and who will get elected results in “diversions that leave the powers that be free to take us back and free to take us down.â€
Not surprisingly Rather is a severe critic of Trump and his presidency. He told Politico, “To have this kind of chaos, bordering on havoc, with (Trump in power), that’s something new, and very, very dangerous.â€
He’s a champion of responsible news media, of course, reminding us of his YouTube program that the goal is to provide a Constitutional check on power. This requires what Rather calls “a shared sense of the truth.â€
The new show, posted on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. ET, got about 75,000 views in the first 12 hours, and 5,000 likes. It’s a small pond for a guy who once was one of TV’s biggest fish.
But Dan Rather imparts a kind of calm reassurance about things. Based on the time I spent talking with him back in his CBS heyday, I can assure you he’s the same folksy, dedicated gentleman that you see on the screen.
He once observed, “What I say or do here won’t matter much, nor should it.†Still, it’s good to have Dan Rather back, especially right now, when the world seems upside down.

Dr. Moss Formerly Files To Run For Congress For Indiana’s 8th District
Jasper, Indiana
Dr. Richard Moss will oppose incumbent Congressman Larry Bucshon in the Republican primary on May 8, 2018
Indiana voters are finding it hard to believe that after seven years of promises, and grassroots support through three historic wave election victories, the Republicans still couldn’t deliver on repealing Obamacare.
Dr. Richard Moss, in a talk before the Second Amendment Patriots in Evansville, said, “We sent our representatives to Washington to do a job. We did not send them there to break their promises or capitulate. But on issue after issue, capitulate is exactly what they have done.â€
“I have deep concerns about the direction of our country and the behavior of our federal government. I believe that the greatest threat facing this country is not Iran, Russia, China or ISIS but Washington DC. It is career politicians in both parties who go to Washington, cut deals with each other, grow the size of government, and bankrupt our children. We need new conservative leadership in Washington. New conservative leadership from Indiana’s 8th district. We need someone who will stand up to both parties and represent we the American people.â€
In his speech, Dr. Moss said, “Congressman Larry Bucshon has taken a page from Richard Lugar’s and Evan Bayh’s playbook by moving his family to Washington. He doesn’t live in the community he represents. Instead, he hangs around Washington insiders and lobbyists and forgot what the voters in Indiana sent him to do.”
Dr. Moss’s platform will be based on four principles, American Values, Opportunity For All, Liberty, and American Strength.
American Values include promoting a culture of faith and family, the twin pillars of a strong civil society. He believes that America is founded on the Judeo-Christian tradition and embraces freedom of religion and traditional marriage. He opposes transgendering out military, schools, and bathrooms.
Opportunity for All is the way to prosperity for everyone including the poor, the young, and working Americans left behind. He wants to unleash the American economy by cutting taxes and spending and rolling back insane regulations and EPA rules designed to stifle the power and creativity of our free market system. He promotes energy development including fracking, fossil fuels, and nuclear. He favors the repeal of job-killing Obamacare and insists that every Congressman is on the same health care plan they have imposed on us. He supports balancing the budget, limiting the size of government, and term limits.
Dr. Moss feels that freedom is at the heart of the American greatness and exceptionalism. He stands for liberty, American sovereignty, our Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
With American values, American opportunity and American freedom, we must realize that a country can’t survive on the good intentions of our foes. That’s why Dr. Moss supports American Strength by rebuilding our National Defense. The world is safer and America is safer when we have the strongest military in the world.
Finally, he believes that our country is not safe unless it can protect its borders from terrorists, drug smugglers and illegal aliens who take American jobs and depress wages. He opposes DACA, amnesty, chain migration, and birthright citizenship. He would build a wall. He considers it a disgrace that 16 years after 9/11 the federal government still hasn’t secured our southern border.
