After a strong season at the charity stripe, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team was recognized at the Women’s Final Four in Columbus, Ohio on Friday night as the NCAA statistical champion for free-throw shooting percentage.

The Purple Aces led the nation, knocking-down 82.0% of their attempts from the free throw line. With the mark, Evansville set both its program record and the Missouri Valley Conference record for free-throw percentage by a team in a single season.

For their efforts, the Aces were recognized in an on-court ceremony during Friday night’s NCAA Women’s Final Four contests.

Along with leading the nation in free throw shooting percentage, Evansville also boasted  seven student-athletes who finished the season shooting above 80% from the charity stripe, led by junior Kerri Gasper who hit a team-best 92.3% of her attempts at the free throw line this season.

Attorney General Curtis Hill issues opinion critical of retailer anti-shoplifting program

0

An anti-shoplifting program developed by Corrective Education Company (“CEC”) and implemented by Walmart at 36 Indiana locations created legal issues and questions that warranted a review by the Indiana Attorney General. Upon receiving notification of the Attorney General’s concerns, Walmart voluntarily agreed to discontinue the program.

The Attorney General’s Office began its review of the CEC program following a request for a legal opinion by Tippecanoe County Prosecuting Attorney Pat Harrington. Harrington reported his concerns that the CEC agreements employed by Walmart in Tippecanoe County were “private” agreements to relinquish law enforcement action, which Harrington believed to be inappropriate and contrary to law.

The Attorney General’s review, which included the cooperation of CEC and Walmart officials, determined that the retailer was offering to forgo contacting the police in exchange for suspects agreeing to enter into their program. Indiana law is clear on the manner and authority in which retailers may lawfully detain shoplifting suspects and law enforcement’s role in that process.

IS IT TRUE APRIL 3, 2018

19

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE yesterday City Councilman and Finance Chairmen Jonathan Weaver announced that members of the local Teamsters told him and other Council members they are in negotiations with the Winnecke Administration to receive 2% raise in this calendar year?

IS IT TRUE during the 2018 budget hearings City Council approved a 1% pay raise for all the public employees except members of the Fire and Police Departments who received a 2% increase?

IS IT TRUE Councilmen and Finance Chairman Jonathan Weaver is upset because the Teamsters and the Mayor have been quietly negotiating a 2% salary increase for this budget year without his knowledge? …Mr. Weaver claim he hasn’t seen a copy of the proposed budget contract amendment that will allow the Mayor to give all the local Teamsters employed by the City a 2% pay increase this year?

IS IT TRUE we find it  extremely interesting that the Finance Chairmen and City Councilman is publicly asking “where’s the transparency?” …ever since Mr. Weaver has been severing on City Council been asking him and his sidekick Missy Mosby “where’s the transparency?”  …we consider this to be a developing story?

IS IT TRUE all we can say to Mr. Weaver is that “taxpayers are getting sick and tired of the political promises and games of elected and appointed officials”?

IS IT TRUE a CCO reader sent this to us which we found interesting? …I  talked to a to a homeless man recently and asked him how he ended up this way? He said, “Up until last week, I still had it all.  I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed, I had a roof over my head, I had HDTV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library?” …he also added that “I was working on my MBA online.  I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical coverage?” …I felt sorry for him, so I asked, “What happened?  Drugs?  Alcohol?  Divorce?”  …he said “Oh no, nothing like that,” he said.  “No, no… I was just paroled?”

IS IT TRUE some feel that Its time to challenge the out of control nepotism and political patronage practices at the Civic Center?

IS IT TRUE we urge you to attend the “Guns and Hoses XI” event this coming April 7, 2018, at the Ford Center because it’s for a worthy causes?
