Customers Encouraged To Service Air Conditioners; Reminded Of Rebates For High-Efficiency Cooling systems

0

With warmer temperatures back in the forecast, Vectren wants to remind customers to have a trained heating and air professional perform routine maintenance on their air conditioning systems to improve efficiency and comfort. Customers should maintain their cooling system to prevent future problems and unwanted costs.

“As temperatures push in to the upper 80s and low 90s this weekend, many customers will turn their air conditioners on for the first time,” said Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery South. “As we enter the cooling season, its important customers maintain their air conditioning systems properly to ensure they perform optimally during the summer months.”

According to www.energystar.gov, routine maintenance check-ups should include the following actions to ensure your house or business stays cool:

Check thermostat settings to ensure your cooling system keeps you comfortable when you are home and saves energy while you are away.

  • Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on motors.
  • Lubricate all moving parts to reduce friction in motors, which increases the amount of electricity used.
  • Check controls of the system to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Regularly clean and/or replace your air conditioner filter to help your unit run at full efficiency and supply better air flow.
  • Clear leaves and other debris away from your air conditioner’s condensing unit on the outside of your home and hose off any accumulated dirt.
  • Check your air conditioner’s refrigerant level – too much or too little will make your system less efficient and reduce the life of the equipment.
  • Clean and adjust blower components to reduce problems with air flow, which can also make your system run less efficiently.

Vectren offers several energy efficiency and rebate programs for residential and business customers, including cash rebates for residential customers of $200 to $400 for a high-efficiency central air conditioning unit, depending on the SEER level, and heat pumps. Oakland City University to Celebrate New Student Center and Regional Cities Momentum in Southwest Indiana

Oakland City University (OCU) broke ground on its new Boulevard Commons project, a mixed-use complex that will accommodate approximately 100 students in suite-style living as well as provide retail space. The gateway project is one of 12 projects that are part of Indiana’s Regional Cities Initiative, designed to attract and retain talent.
The OCU project received $2.2 million in Regional Cities funding, which helps communities across the state come together to transform their regions into nationally-recognized destinations to live, work, play and stay. With employers continually stressing the need for a skilled and ready workforce, Indiana is building upon its strong economic foundation to advance quality of place projects that attract and retain future generations of Hoosiers. The project was recommended for funding by the Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (SWIRDA) as a part of the region’s Indiana’s Great Southwest plan.

Settlement allows children to visit Allen County Jail inmates

A settlement in a federal lawsuit ends a policy that prohibited Allen County Jail inmates from receiving visits from their children, among other agreed changes.

Settlement terms of the class action Ronald Ward and Samuel Chinnis v. David Gladieux, in his official capacity as Allen County Sheriff, 1:16-cv-99, end a complaint brought on behalf of inmates in 2016.

The suit alleged parents detained pretrial were forbidden under Allen County Jail policy from non-contact visitation with their children or with minor relatives, a policy that plaintiffs said served no reasonable or rational relation to security or penological interests of the jail. The suit claimed the practice violated detainees’ constitutional rights under the First and 14th Amendments and under Section 12, Article 1 and Section 9, Article 1 of the Indiana Constitution.

The settlement filed as a joint stipulation Wednesday in the U.S. Court for the Northern District of Indiana, Fort Wayne, lifts that policy barring minor visitation and revises those concerning mail and photos pretrial detainees may receive.

General terms of the settlement provide:

• Inmates will have the same privileges to visitation from their minor children or minor relatives as they have to visits from any non-restricted visitor.

• Inmates will be allowed to receive photos by mail and possess up to 10 photos that meet size and content restrictions specified in the settlement. Examples of restricted photos include those larger than 3-by-5 inches and those containing violent or gang images or those that are sexually suggestive. Inmates may not display photos in their cells. Photos must be kept in property bags. Any excess or nonconforming photos will be placed with the inmate’s property.

• Inmates may send and receive mail on yellow or white legal paper only. Any nonconforming stationery will be placed into the inmate’s property. Inmates  may keep up to 15 letters; any in excess will be placed with inmate’s property.

The settlement in the case filed by Fort Wayne civil rights lawyer David Frank calls for each party to pay its own legal fees.
