Lanza, Fantoni Earns Places on Team Brazil for Pan Pacific Championships

0

Indiana University swimmers Vini Lanza and Gabriel Fantoni were each earned a spot on Team Brazil for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo this August.

This past week at the 2018 Maria Lenk Trophy in Brazil, both swimmers had outstanding performances to earn their spots on Team Brazil.

Lanza won a pair of events, the 100m butterfly (51.42) and the 200m IM (1:58.10). The rising senior also took fourth in the 50m butterfly (23.67) and fifth in the 200m butterfly (1:58.10).

Fantoni made his mark in the backstroke events, winning the 100m back with a time of 54.07. He also placed second in the 50m back (25.14) and fourth in the 200m back (2:01.61.). The rising sophomore also won the Consolation Final of the 100m butterfly with a time of 53.31.

Established in the mid-1980’s, the Pan Pacific Championships are held under the oversight of the Pan Pacific Swimming Association. The Association is made up of the four founding swimming federations – Swimming Australia, Swimming Canada, the Japan Amateur Swimming Federations and USA Swimming.

These charter nations developed the concept of the swimming competition to provide their national teams with first-class international competition between the two major international swimming competitions – the Olympic Games and the FINA World Championships.

Along with the two swimmers for Team Brazil, IU head swimming coach Ray Looze will serve as the head men’s coach for Team USA at the Pan Pacific Championships.  Swimmers will qualify for the U.S. roster at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, slated for July 25-29 in Irvine, Calif.

Due to Popular Demand “Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour” Adds 50 New Shows Starting September 2018

0

Second Leg of Tour Includes Stops in New York City, Los Angeles,
Chicago and Boston

“Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour” Presented by Pull-Ups® is extending its high-energy interactive tour, taking the immersive live concert experience designed for kids and families into some of the biggest markets in the US. With most of the initial dates sold out and second shows being added in multiple markets, the 90-minute concert that brings the beloved characters from the #1 preschool television network’s hit series to life is adding 50 new shows starting in September. The second leg of the tour includes shows in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston. The exclusive pre-sale begins today, Monday, April 23, with the general public on-sale starting Friday, April 27. For a complete list of on-sale cities and upcoming shows, visit disneyjuniortour.com.

Incorporating live appearances by favorite Disney Junior characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Elena of Avalor, Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, interactive on-screen moments with Puppy Dog Pals, The Lion Guard and Muppet Babies, as well as the first-ever live appearance by Vampirina, “Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour” features 20 songs from Disney Junior’s hit series, as well as two brand new original songs for the tour. Directed by Amy Tinkham (ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars”), produced by Jonathan Shank of Red Light Management, and represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the concert is elevated by state of the art LED technology, a giant Mickey-shaped DJ booth, high-tech scrim screens that transport characters into the theater and 4D special effects.

Sponsored by Pull-Ups®, the tour also includes a 15-minute interactive pre-show countdown featuring new original song “I’m a Big Kid” written by Beau Black (“Mickey and the Roadster Racers,” “The Lion Guard”).  The song celebrates kids’ first milestones, and the pre-show warm-up teaches the audience three different dance moves that will later be incorporated into the show. Then the show hosts remind parents that it’s a good time to take their kids for a bathroom break before the show starts.

VIP package offers include a VIP Pre-Party or VIP After-Party. At the VIP Pre-Party, kids and families will have the opportunity to meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Doc McStuffins and Elena of Avalor. The VIP After-Party gives kids and families the first opportunity to meet Vampirina, plus Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy. Both are filled with dancing, food and fun! SENATOR TOM COBURN ENDORSES MIKE BRAUN FOR US SENATE

0
Braun First Big Endorsement Of The Campaign By Fellow Outsider Tom Coburn
Conservative businessman and outsider Mike Braun announced that he earned the endorsement of former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma.
Highly regarded as one of the strongest conservatives in the history of the U.S. Senate, Senator Coburn spent years fighting for the Constitution and individual liberty. Coburn became nationally known when, in 2005, he lead the charge against the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” in Alaska against the wishes of his own party.
“I am pleased to support and endorse Mike Braun, Indiana Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. Like myself, Mike is a social & fiscal conservative who supports term limits,” said Coburn. “As a successful businessman, Mike brings the very knowledge and background that is badly needed in our U.S. Senate today. Mike’s opposition to deficit spending and pork barrel projects together with his proven leadership abilities will make him a highly effective U.S. Senator.”
“I’m beyond honored to have earned the support of one of my idols in the U.S. Senate, Tom Coburn,” said Braun. “Senator Coburn stood for everything that I will in Washington – the Constitution, cutting spending and the debt, and getting Washington out of our lives. Hoosiers know I’m the only conservative choice on the ballot and I hope they’ll make their voices heard on May 8th.”

Morales brings 19 years of volleyball experience to Purple Aces

Purple Aces head volleyball coach Manolo Concepcion has announced the hiring of Fernando Morales as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville.

Morales brings 19 years of National and International playing experience to the Purple Aces with 12 of them coming overseas.  He brings extensive experience with both indoor and beach volleyball to UE.

“I am thrilled to have Fernando join our coaching staff. He brings tremendous experience to the table, being coached and trained by some of the best minds in the world of volleyball,” Concepcion said.  “His charismatic and transformational leadership capabilities are above and beyond. He has always been one of those players that know how to get the best out of his teammates and people around; this is why he has been the captain of the National Team, as well as of many of his Pro League teams around the globe.”

“He knows how to relate to players and teach the game well, which are two of my favorite aspects about his addition; especially since he has had the task of leading people from different backgrounds, races, religion, language and country of origin,” Concepcion added.  “I look forward to his contribution in areas like individual skill development, offensive coordination, in-game coaching, scouting report design, and recruiting.”

Morales also brings a wide range of coaching experience to the program.  An assistant coach at the professional level at Changas, he has also worked in several positions at the University of Kentucky camps, Cruz Control, Specialized Position Academy and the Fernando Morales Volleyball Camp.

A National Team Captain in Puerto Rico, Morales also played professionally in his native Puerto Rico along with Spain, Austria, Cyprus, Russia, Lebanon and Greece.  Professional organizations that he played for include: Playeros, Caribes, Criollos, Patriotas, Plataneros, Mets, Capitanes, PTV Malaga, HYPO VBK Klagenfurt, Hypo Tirol Inssbruck, Ajjacio, Hot Volleys, AEK Karava, Enisey Krasnoyarsk, Boucherieh, Orange and Pamvochaikos.

He was a 3-timen Pro League Champion and accumulated numerous awards in his career along with a silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Qualifiers.  He also played in the 2007 World Cup, earning a 6th place finish.

“I am excited to start the new stage of my life and am even more exited to do it with Manolo,” Morales said.  “I played my first years with him and now we are going to be together for my first years as a college coach.  We made a great team playing and I know we will have the same success coaching.”
