Motorcycle Crash on SR 66 Claims Life of Rider- Motorcyclist Identified

The motorcyclist killed yesterday on SR 66 near Section Line Road has been identified as Kenneth Koberstein, 42, of Evansville.

At approximately 6:36 this evening, motorists traveling SR 66 near Section Line Road stopped when they observed a Honda motorcycle in a field. When they approached the motorcycle they observed the motorcyclist in the ditch between the roadway and the motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling westbound on SR 66 approximately 1,700 feet east of Section Line Road when for unknown reasons left the roadway on the north side and came to a final rest in a field approximately 25 feet from the roadway. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time investigating officers do not have any witnesses to the crash. Anyone that may have seen this crash is encouraged to contact the Indiana State Police at 1-812-867-2079.

The investigation is continuing. The identity of the motorcyclist will be released after his family has been notified.

IS IT TRUE at last nights City Council meeting 5th Ward City Councilman Justin Elpers asked City Attorney Marco DeLucio and the Director of the EWSU Allen Mounts about the status of the McCurdy $1.5 million dollar water and sewer bill? …DeLucio and Mounts told 5th Ward City Councilman Justin Elpers that the City has the documentation needed to collect more than $1.5 million in past overdue fees and fines from the Kunkel Group for water and sewer?

IS IT TRUE at last nights City Council meeting 5th Ward City Councilman Justin Elpers asked At-Large Councilman and Finance Chairman Jonathon  Weaver several times if the Kunkel Group should be held responsible for the past due fees and fines? … Councilman Weaver responded back several times to Mr. Elpers questions that the EWSU should waive the past due fees and fines for Kunkel water and sewer bills?

IS IT TRUE that CAJE had their annual Nehemiah Action event last night at Old National Events Plaza? …around 1400 people attended this worthy event? …the City and County officials present were County Commissioner Ben Shoulders, County Councilman John Montrastelle, County Councilwoman Stephanie Terry, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, City Councilman Jim Brinkmeyer and City Councilwoman Michelle Mercer?

Putting Hoosiers First: Richard Moss for Congress

More than comparing flashy ads, the latest scandals or snappy sound bites, elections are questions of character and conviction. As voters head to the polls today, the choice for Indiana’s Eighth District Congressional race is clear: conservative cancer surgeon Richard Moss.

Prediction For Voter Turn Out During Indiana’s Primary Election

Candidates are hoping their last-minute push for votes will drive Hoosiers to the polls.

Locations are setting up and preparing voting machines across the state.

Registered voters in Vanderburgh County can cast their ballot at any of the 22 voting centers in the county.

County officials say the number of challenged races on both the Democratic and Republican sides could have a slight impact on voter turn out.

“As of about 10:30 this morning, Vanderburgh County had voted 2,792 people,” says Vanderburgh county clerk Carla Hayden.

“So that is a little bit lower than what it was in 2014 the last time we had a similar election, but we will see how many people turn out tomorrow.”

Polls will open at 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday for Indiana’s primary election.

At National Conference, AG Curtis Hill Shares Indiana’s Experience Involving Retail Security Programs

At a national retail conference on Tuesday, Attorney General Curtis Hill shared legal perspectives on issues of law enforcement, loss prevention and store security relating to significant increases in property crimes committed against retailers. He participated in several panel discussions at the 2018 Retail Asset Protection Conference, sponsored by the Retail Industry Leaders Association.

Attorney General Hill focused portions of his remarks on lessons learned in Indiana involving controversy over an anti-shoplifting program developed by Corrective Education Company (CEC) and implemented by Walmart at 36 Indiana locations. At the request of a prosecuting attorney, Attorney General Hill conducted a review that included the cooperation of CEC and Walmart officials. Attorney General Hill determined that the retailer had been offering to forgo contacting the police in exchange for suspects agreeing to enter into their program. This created issues under Indiana law, which  is clear on the manner and authority in which retailers may lawfully detain shoplifting suspects and law enforcement’s role in that process. At the conference, Attorney General Hill spoke of the need for strong relationships among retailers and law enforcement agencies. Afterward, he reiterated some of those same themes.

“Law enforcement and retail businesses share common ground in these matters,” Attorney General Hill said. “For its part, the retailer wants to minimize financial loss and keep employees engaged in productive tasks other than surveilling and thwarting shoplifters. The police officer, meanwhile, wants to enforce the law, arrest individuals suspected of crimes and generally safeguard the rights and protections of citizens. When businesses and law enforcement speak openly and respectfully with one another, they can establish the kind of trust and collaboration that leads to effective results for all involved.” Attached are several photos from the national conference,

Dr. William Wooten Honored With Sagamore Of The Wabash

 Youth First Founder Dr. William Wooten was recently awarded one of Indiana’s highest honors. At the Emerald Gala celebrating Youth First’s 20th anniversary on April 21, 2018, Dr. Wooten was designated a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch announced the award in a video tribute, and it was then presented by Youth First President & CEO Parri O. Black and Youth First Board Member Carol Lynch.

“Dr. Wooten has literally saved thousands of lives through the founding of Youth First. It was no easy task in a world searching for quick fixes, but he knew Youth First must be a coordinated, collaborative, comprehensive, regional and sustained effort in order to fight substance abuse and related concerns like suicide, self-harm, child abuse, violence and other traumatic childhood experiences,” said Lynch.

A former family physician and director of a treatment center, Dr. Wooten founded Youth First in 1998 because he saw a growing number of young people with complex substance use and behavioral health disorders. Feeling there was a gap in prevention services in our area, he rallied community leaders and worked to positively address the problem and help young people succeed.

Over the last 20 years, Dr. Wooten’s concern for young people and dream of a better approach to prevention has resulted in an organization that has become a trusted partner in Indiana and is now a model for the rest of the state.  The Sagamore of the Wabash honorary award was created during the term of Governor Ralph F. Gates, who served as Indiana Governor from 1945 to 1949. Conferred upon Indiana citizens who have contributed greatly to Hoosier heritage, the award has been given to astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, musicians, scientists, politicians and others.

 INDIANAPOLIS—Election results in real time will be available on Indiana’s voters’ website as soon as the polls close at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced Monday that the public and media can view the results at www.IndianaVoters.com as precincts around the state email them to her office. To view the results on the voters’ website, click “2018 Primary Election Results” located at the top and bottom of the home page. Historical election results are also available.

Results from the Republican and Democrat primaries will be available, as well as any local referenda information. Users can track voting totals by district or county. The page will automatically refresh with updated information every 5 minutes. Users have the option to download a spreadsheet version of the data, which is updated every time the page refreshes.

Users are reminded that some counties may publish local results before sending updates to the state, and that results are considered unofficial until 10 days after the election.
