Aces defeat Reddies in preseason game

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Josh Hughes and Keishon Porter scored 22 points apiece to lead the University of Evansville men’s basketball team to a 90-74 victory over Henderson State on Saturday at the Ford Center.

Hughes was a perfect 10-of-10 from the line while adding five field goals while Porter added 10 field goals in the contest. Leif Moeller completed the game with 21 points while AJ Casey scored 18. Four Reddie players reached double figures with Deazhon Perkins leading the way with 16.

Evansville had a hot start opening a 13-2 lead in the first 5:09 of the game. AJ Casey scored five points while Keishon Porter scored four during the early stretch. Henderson State found its offensive groove midway through the period cutting the deficit down to just three points at 17-14.

With the lead still at three points (19-16), the Purple Aces scored 10 in a row to take a 29-16 advantage. Leif Moeller registered five points during the run. A tenacious Reddies squad cut the deficit back down to six points (36-30) inside of the 4-minute mark. From there, it was all Aces as they completed the half on a 17-6 run to go into the break with a 53-36 lead.

Two early baskets by AJ Casey helped the Aces hold the double-digit lead. Porter added a 3-point play just over two minutes into the period to solidify a 60-42 advantage. Just as they had in the first half, Henderson State staged a rally.  A 7-0 run made it a 60-49 game inside the 15-minute mark. Three minutes later, the Reddies closed the gap to 62-57.

Casey and Moeller combined to hit four free throws that pushed the lead back up to nine, but HSU continued to battle back. With 7:33 remaining, Deazhon Perkins’ 3-point play made it a 72-68 contest. Clinging to a 74-70 lead, Evansville’s defense took over, holding the Reddies to just four points over the final seven minutes. Helped by six Hughes free throws down the stretch, the Aces pulled away to take the win by a 90-74 final.

The Word 120, The Message of Jesus

The Message of Jesus by Jerome Stewart

Romans chapter 10 vs. 15 says; As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who *preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” Believe it to the fullest extent possible that all hope rests with Jesus Christ. He is the mediator to the Father of Heaven for all of mankind, who advocates on behalf of the sinner or whatever else He so chooses to do. The beauty of God’s word is in knowing, God allows for the redemption of the sinner.

Believe to the fullest extent possible the words of the Apostle Paul in 2nd. Corinthians chapter 5 vs. 17 which says; “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold all things become new.”

When Jesus was on earth as God in the flesh, His number one mission was to do the will of the Father who sent Him, to save mankind from the penalty of sinful behavior. That’s why the evangelistic mission is so important. Saving souls is at stake.

Salvation is available to anyone irrespective of gender, socio-economic factors, whether one is rich or poor, and may God help us understand, believers do not worship an African-American, Caucasian, Black, Chinese, or Hispanic God.  John 4 vs. 24 Jesus says; “God is a Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

There’s more. Paul said to the brethren in Galatians 3 vss. 27 and 28; “For as many as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

There’s more!  Jeremiah known as the weeping prophet says in chapter 9 vss. 23 and 24; “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor the rich man glory in his riches: But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight says the LORD.”

Jeremiah chapter 10 vs. 10 says; “But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King.” The problem today is rooted in the meaning of the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians chapter 3 vss. 17 and 18 which says; “Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ.”

$50,000 Moskowitz Family Gift Establishes First-Ever Student Awards for UE Physician Assistant Program

0

EVANSVILLE, IND. (10/22/2025) The University of Evansville (UE) is proud to announce a transformational $50,000 gift from Dr. Jay Moskowitz and Mrs. Joanne Moskowitz that will establish the first-ever student awards in the Department of Physician Assistant Science (UEPA).

The Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Award for Innovation in Healthcare and the Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Leadership Award will empower students who are driven to improve healthcare through bold ideas, creativity, compassionate leadership, and a deep commitment to service. Each year, recipients will be recognized at the UEPA hooding ceremony and receive funding to support participation in a related Health Sciences conference. The awards are supported by a permanent endowment, ensuring they will impact students for generations to come.

Physician assistants play a vital role in expanding access to care, often serving as the first point of contact and the driving force behind coordinated, compassionate healthcare. At UE, the Physician Assistant Science Program prepares students to meet this need, especially in underserved and rural areas.

“Good health made possible, that’s our credo,” said Dr. Moskowitz. “These awards are about more than recognition. They’re about fueling the energy and excellence of students who will shape the future of care.”

Dr. Moskowitz’s career spans more than five decades in science, policy, and healthcare leadership. At the National Institutes of Health, he helped launch the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and championed translational science, bridging laboratory breakthroughs with clinical solutions. At Wake Forest University School of Medicine, he spearheaded a dramatic expansion of the medical school’s research enterprise. During his time at Pennsylvania State University, he integrated research programs across campuses and established the “Jayhound” inter-campus shuttle, strengthening health science collaborations. “Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation,” he said. “Everywhere we’ve gone, I’ve tried to connect universities, industry, and communities.”

Joanne Moskowitz’s impact has been equally profound. A lifelong educator, she taught elementary school for more than 30 years, instilling curiosity and confidence in young learners. “Sparking curiosity in children is what carries them forward into science, medicine, and service,” she said. Her belief in the power of early education continues to shape the couple’s philanthropic vision.

Now residents of Evansville, the Moskowitz family is deeply connected to UE’s mission. “Every student deserves someone in their corner,” said Mrs. Moskowitz. “For us, that means creating opportunities for growth, for learning, and for giving back in whatever ways we can.”

“When a student sees their name on this plaque 20 years from now,” Dr. Moskowitz added. “I hope they remember that someone believed in them, and that it inspires them to believe in others.”
