Evansville, IN June 9, 2025 – The World Ballet Company and Old National Events Plaza are pleased to announce Swan Lake is coming to the Aiken Theatre on April 16th, 2026, for one night only.  This must-see production of Swan Lake is choreographed by Nadezhda Kalinina, who has lovingly retouched the oldest Marius Petipa’s version of the ballet, considered to be the foundation of the classic iconic version.

World Ballet Company’s Swan Lake is a breathtaking production featuring 50 professional dancers, over 150 hand-crafted costumes, and Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score. From moonlit lakes to glittering palace halls, this renowned ballet captures the power of love, the pull of destiny, and the beauty of classical dance in its most captivating form.

According to audience surveys, more than 60 percent of the World Ballet Company audiences experience ballet for the first time with these productions, which is crucial to the company’s mission.

Screaming Eagles add transfer guard West ahead of 2025-26

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball has signed senior guard Sarang West, who transfers to USI ahead of 2025-26 from the University of North Alabama.

The 5’8″ guard made six starts in 26 games played last season for North Alabama, averaging 2.7 points per game. West shot just over 30 percent overall from the floor and nearly 30 percent from long range. West totaled 21 rebounds, 18 assists, and four steals in 2024-25. The guard had a pair of career-high games with 11 points last season.

 High school students to gain hands-on experience and real-world insight into technical careers at CenterPoint’s Bergdolt Training Facility

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — June 9, 2025 — As part of Nextech’s Catapult summer internship program, CenterPoint Energy will welcome a group of high school students to its Bergdolt Training Facility on June 10, 2025, for a hands-on learning experience focused on careers in the energy industry.

Catapult connects students to real-world learning in tech through immersive field visits, skills training and mentorship. The visit to CenterPoint offers a rare look at how careers in the utility sector are evolving in the digital age.

This collaboration reflects Nextech’s commitment to expanding access to computer science and CenterPoint Energy’s investment in STEM education and workforce development.

PUBLIC NOTICE OF EXECUTIVE SESSION OF THE EVANSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT PENSION BOARD

The Evansville Police Department Pension Board (the “Board”) will hold an Executive Session on Wednesday, June 10, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. The Executive Session will be held in Room 307 on the third floor of the Civic Center at 1 N.W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Evansville, Indiana. 

The Executive Session will be closed to the public for the following reason: for discussion of records     classified as confidential by state or federal statute (I.C. § 5-14-1.5-6.1(b) (7)) and to receive information about prospective employees (I.C. § 5-14-1.5-6(b) (5)). 

Immediately following the Executive Session, the Board will conduct its regularly scheduled monthly meeting, which is open to   the public.

Child Dies After Accidental Shooting

On 6/7/2025 Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1300 block of Florence St in reference to a “Shots Fired” run. The caller stated their nephew had shot himself. The three year old victim was later transported to a local hospital where he did not survive his injuries.

Officers were informed that a male subject had left the scene carrying something in his hands soon after the shooting. The male was identified as Jovontae K. Carter (30). Officers established a perimeter and began searching for Carter. When Carter was located, he was in possession of a handgun magazine and marijuana. The handgun was not discovered initially. During an interview with detectives, Carter admitted that the gun used was his and that he threw it in the creek because he did not want to see it again.

Witnesses on scene stated the victim found the handgun under the couch cushions of the home. Carter also admitted that he stored the handgun there. Detectives were later able to locate the handgun hidden in the yard of a nearby residence.

 EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Peter Funk, Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at University of Evansville, has been selected to participate in the prestigious 2025 TopConnect Basketball Symposium taking place at the Marriott Village at Lake Buena Vista on Monday, June 9.

TopConnect, developed by ETSU Athletic Director Dr. Richard Sander, identifies the top assistant basketball coaches in the country and connects them with mid-major Athletic Directors providing tremendous networking and leadership development opportunities for both parties.

In its eighth year, TopConnect develops educational programming that allows these top assistant coaches to hear from a variety of successful leaders and speakers. The 2025 symposium is headlined by a panel of prominent and successful coaches and industry leaders.

Athletic Directors on hand include, Mark Benson, University of Albany; Anthony Henderson, Hampton University; Mark Wharton, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, Nico Yantko of Murray State University, and Jon Schemmel of University of South Dakota.

Panel discussions include:

  • The Hiring Process and Thereafter
  • Perspective of First-Time Head Coaches
  • NIL From Multiple Perspectives
