!00 Guys Who Care Have Given Over a Quarter Million Dollars to Charity

AUGUST 27, 2024

A local group of men has raised over $250,000 for local charities, and their philanthropy will continue to impact the community.

100 Guys Who Care was founded in 2018 with the simple idea of impacting non-profit organizations significantly by pooling money from a group of men to make major donations. The founding committee set the goal of collecting $100 each from 100 men to add up to a $10,000 donation to a single charity. Those founders, including Shawn King, Nick Stratman, Kevin Coon, and Chad Schmidt have led the quarterly meetings to support over a dozen local causes.

Three non-profit groups are invited each quarter to make a presentation, and the evening ends with one of the charities collecting $10,000. As the men arrive at the meeting, they give $100 in cash or a check, with no payee listed. There’s time for the men to socialize and speak to representatives from the three charities. After everyone eats, the presentations begin, including time for a question and answer session with each non-profit. After the last presentation, a vote is taken, and all the cash and checks collected are given to the winning charity.

The group is not incorporated, has no bank account, and has no expenses. Field and Main Bank stepped forward this year to pay for food for the gathering and provide $500 each to the runner-up organizations.

A $10,000 gift is significant for non-profit groups, and by pooling the $100 donations of the men attending the meetings, the group makes a major difference for charities.

The groups that have donations of over $10,000 from 100 Guys Who Care include:

Youth First

Chemo Buddies

Highland Baseball

Honor Flight

Holly’s House

Hangers

Young & Established

Santa Clothes Club

Ark Crisis Children’s Center

Autism Evansville

Warrick County CASA

Borrowed Hearts Foundation

Anyone can be a part of 100 Guys Who Care. The next quarterly meeting is November 21, 5:30 PM, at Venue 812.

**Red Flag Alert: Evansville Rescue Mission Provides Life-Saving Relief During Extreme Heat**

**[Evansville, IN – 8/26/24]** – With temperatures soaring above 90 degrees this week, the Evansville Rescue Mission has entered Red Flag mode, offering critical support to those in need. As part of our commitment to the well-being of our community, we are opening our doors as a cooling shelter and providing water to anyone who needs it.

During this extreme heat, we invite all members of the community, especially those without access to air conditioning, to utilize our space as a safe and cool refuge. We understand the dangers that come with high temperatures and are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has a place to escape the heat.

In addition to offering a cooling shelter, we are distributing bottled water to help keep people hydrated. However, with the demand expected to exceed 5,000 water bottles this week alone, we are reaching out to the community for support.

We urgently need donations of bottled water to meet this critical need. Your generosity will help us provide essential hydration and safety to those most vulnerable during this heat wave.

**How You Can Help:**
– **Donate Bottled Water:** Drop off donations at any Evansville Rescue Mission property – Mens Residence Center (500 E. Walnut Street),The Thrift Store (1107 Washington Square) or Youth Care Center (727 Chestnut Street).
– **Monetary Donations:** Visit EvansvilleRescueMission.org to make a financial contribution that will go directly toward purchasing water and other cooling supplies.

“The extreme heat is not just uncomfortable; it’s dangerous. We want to ensure that everyone in our community has access to a cool environment and clean water during this critical time,” said Kyle Gorman, Executive Director of Advancement at the Evansville Rescue Mission. “We’re grateful for any help the community can provide to ensure we can meet the needs of those who rely on us.”

Aces men’s soccer comes up big in win against Memphis

0
The Purple Aces began an early season win streak with the 3-0 victory
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An early lead helped the University of Evansville men’s soccer team cruise to a 3-0 win over the Memphis Tigers on Sunday evening.
Senior forward Nacho Diaz Barragan (Almeria, Spain) added goals two and three of the year in the second half to help the Purple Aces to their second win in as many games. Junior defender Nacho Diaz Caneja (Coruña, Spain / Oregon State) also put up a goal for UE in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the Tigers, helping Evansville to an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute. Freshman goalkeeper Michal Mroz (Elk Grove, Ill. / Elk Grove HS) picked up the first clean sheet of his career, making six stops in the win.
The Aces got off to a hot start as senior midfielder Jose Vivas (Teruel, Spain) took the first shot of the game in less than 30 seconds. And UE kept the pressure going as Diaz Caneja found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Through traffic, Vivas poked out a cross to Diaz Caneja in front of the net that Diaz Caneja buried into the left side of the goal.
While Evansville wouldn’t find the back of the net again in the first half, the team did take the lead in shots five attempts to the Tigers two. It was a slower start to the second half for both teams after some fireworks near the end of the first half resulted in a yellow card for players on both sides. But it wasn’t long until the Aces found their offense again in the 62nd minute.
Diaz Barragan found his way around the Tigers goalkeeper after an initial blocked shot. The second attempt went into the top left corner of the net for his first unassisted goal of the season. Just 11 minutes later Diaz Barragan scored his third goal of the season for his first brace of the year.
In the 73rd minute of the game, fifth-year forward Kai Phillip took a free kick from the right line of the penalty area that found Diaz Barragan just past the penalty arc. Diaz Barragan then buried the cross with his right foot into the bottom right corner of the net.  In the final 17 minutes of the game, Mroz faced nine shots with three saves to keep it a shutout for UE.
Evansville is currently off to its best start since the 2017 season when the Aces began the year with four straight wins. UE will try to add win number three in a week against Southern Indiana on Sunday, September 1st. Along with hosting the Mayor’s Cup, Evansville will celebrate the program’s 50th season next weekend. Kickoff for Sunday’s match is set for 7 p.m
