At 2:45pm on January 3rd, Evansville Police were called to the 1700 block of E. Division for a reported armed robbery. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, ANDREW KAMPLAIN. Kamplain told officers he had been removed from his car and taken into 1702 E. Division and robbed. Kamplain said a black male suspect implied he had a gun and then robbed him.Â
Numerous officers responded to the scene and surrounded the house. Due to the possibility of an armed suspect being in the house, the EPD tactical vehicle was brought to the scene to provide protective cover for the officers. Assisting officers closed Division St to all traffic for safety reasons.
Officers were able to get all of the occupants out of the house without incident. Several people who were removed from the home were taken to EPD headquarters to be interviewed.
As the investigation was progressing, Kamplain told investigators that he was no longer interested in pursuing the matter. Kamplain signed a NO PROSECUTION form, ending police involvement in the incident.Â

The City-County Observer Encourages The Candidacy of Ben Trockman for Evansville City CouncilÂ
The City of Evansville is in an election year and rumors of candidacies are filling the air. One of the whisper candidates that is getting much attention is a possible candidacy announcement by Ben Trockman.
During the last several days we posted comments in our “IS IT TRUE” section that Ben Trockman is considering running for the First Ward seat on the Evansville City Council.  We received several off the record comments concerning the possibility of him running for City Council. The consensus of those comments was in support of Ben’s candidacy. A couple of people suggested that he might not be up to the task because he is physically challenged.
Ben Trockman’s unfortunate accident in 2006 that robbed him of his mobility at a young age is well known. He was as an enthusiastic competitor in athletics while at Harrison High School. Since his accident, he has channeled that competitive spirit into activities that have helped many people who face similar challenges to his own. Rather than settle in and live a silent life, Ben Trockman moved through his rehabilitation and went on to complete a bachelor’s degree from Evansville’s University of Southern Indiana.
Even though he has held several responsible positions in his working career he still found time to work tirelessly for charities like the Easter Seals campaign and serves as an advocate for those with disabilities. Ben even organized a job fair for people with disabilities and surprisingly landed a spot at Evansville’s Old National Bank that feeds his passion.
Ben Trockman has proven to be an effective communicator with a national platform. If he should choose to run for the Evansville City Council and win, we predict that he will immediately become the most qualified ambassador of the physically challenged that our community has ever known.
An accident that would have defeated many has made Ben Trockman a better person with a passion for his community and the physically challenged. Evansville would be lucky to have such a person to serve on the Evansville Cty Council. He is wise beyond his years and carries with him the kind of wisdom that only can be gained in trial by fire situations.

The City of Boonville is one step closer to breaking ground on a new solar field in hopes of helping energy customers save some money.
“Green energy, you know, we hear about it, we talk about it, well we did it,†said Mayor Charlie Wyatt.
Thursday’s board of works meeting in Boonville lasted all of five minutes – and in that time – mayor Charlie Wyatt announced plans on the city’s commitment to clean, renewable energy.
“It’s an opportunity for us to be able to put this solar project in and right now, in today’s dollars, it’s equal to about 17,000 dollars a month in electrical savings,†said Wyatt.
Bidding for the project started in November with five coming back before the deadline.
“The low bidder is local to the area, they’re based out of Tell City, Casey Electric, and we deemed them to be qualified,†said City Engineer Clint Roos.
Casey Electric’s bid was nearly 883,000 dollars.
The project is phase 1 of the project with the solar field set to break ground south of the Boonville sewer works off Millersburg road – projected to cost nearly 1.7 million dollars when it’s all said and done.
“It’s tax money, that’s what it is,†said Wyatt. “There’s no raise or anything like that. It’s a bond anticipation note that we have taken. It’s kind of like buying a house. You put everything up front and then you know what you can spend, and that’s what we were able to do.â€
The idea was unveiled 2 1/2 years ago as part of a long-term goal for the city of Boonville.
“We’re also looking, hopefully, in the future about being able to do solar energy at our wells over in Spencer County where we produce the energy, and then it goes to the bulk plant,†Wyatt added.
City officials say construction of the solar field will begin late February or early March in hopes of having it up and running sometime in the summer.
