Best Comments of the Week
We love it when you comment on what you read in the CCO. Here are some of the best comments this week:
On our IS IT TRUE last Friday about passing of the $24 million parks bond, Sherry Farmer said, “Everything sounds right. I left a little early & missed the final approval of the money laundering scheme (I mean the giraffe barn that was removed) from the list of projects which added up to $9 million? …leaving $15 million dollars of the bond sitting nonappropriated since $15 million dollars for the giraffe BREEDING barn should have been removed from the list of projects to fund!
I would prefer to send the $15 million to N. Carolina to help the flood victims.”
Also on the parks bond, Yoda said, “$15 million for a giraffe breeding barn? The people running Evansville have lost their minds. Giraffes breed in the wild because nature compels them to do so. Just turn them loose and put on some Barry White music. The deeds will get done.”
On our post-election story about Mike Braun drawing enough votes to be considered a mandate, Al Sharpie said, “It’s MAGA TIME……… Without a Doubt…..”

Evansville Receives Grant for Paving Projects
The City of Evansvillewill receive a $729,809.30 Community Crossings grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The grant, awarded twice each year by INDOT, will fund various road paving projects throughout the city (listed below). Evansville also received a Community Crossings grant in this year’s first cycle, with those funds going toward paving portions of Boeke, Burkhardt, and Red Bank roads, among other projects.
“As a city, we recognize the importance of maintaining safe routes of travel for our residents,” said Mayor Stephanie Terry. “This was a priority identified by residents in our recent community survey and it is a priority for our administration. Earlier this year, we were able to make improvements to several roads through the first round of Community Crossings; this second round will allow us to continue work to improve the condition of our roads.”
The list of projects that will be paved by this Community Crossings grant includes:
- Stringtown Rd., from Morgan Ave. to Keck Ave.
- Boeke Rd., from Virginia St. to Morgan Ave.
- West Mill St., from First Ave. to the city limit
- Oak Grove Rd., from Enterprise to the East Bridge Limit
- North Green River Rd., from Constellation to Davis Lant
These projects will be put out to bed in early 2025, with paving expected to begin later in the year.
