Gov. Holcomb Announces Interest In Next Level Trails Grant Program

1

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb today announced that the first round of the Next Level Trails grant program has received 82 applications requesting a total of nearly $144 million in funding.

The applicants are from 42 of the state’s 92 counties and their requests total more than 240 potential miles of hiking, biking and riding trails.

“The number of applications in the first round far surpassed our expectations and shows Indiana’s enthusiasm for trails,” Gov. Holcomb said. “This sends a big message that Hoosiers are invested in improving quality of life across the state.”

The Next Level Trails grant program is the largest infusion of trail funding in state history, dedicating $90 million to connect communities. The grant program is part of Next Level Connections, Gov. Holcomb’s $1 billion statewide infrastructure program. Up to $20 million in regional projects and up to $5 million in local projects will be granted in this opening round. Next Level Trail funds will be awarded in rounds until all funds have been allocated.

The grant program is divided into two components: a $70 million fund for regional projects and a $20 million fund for local projects. Each fund will require a 20 percent project match, which can include monetary contributions, land value, and in-kind donations of materials and labor. Projects funded through this program must be open to the public. Eligible applicants include units of government or 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will review the applications to ensure they met requirements and then a multi-agency committee will evaluate the proposals. The first awards are expected to be announced in early spring.

AG Curtis Hill announces start of Wells Fargo consumer redress review program

Program allows consumers who have not been made whole through other remediation programs to have inquiry reviewed by escalation team

On Dec. 28, 2018, Attorney General Curtis Hill announced that Wells Fargo Bank N.A. will pay $575 million to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws. As part of a settlement involving all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Indiana will receive $5.2 million. (See earlier release.)

Today, Attorney General Hill announced that Wells Fargo has begun a consumer redress review program through which consumers who have not yet been made whole through other remediation programs already in place can seek to have their inquiry or complaint reviewed by a Wells Fargo escalation team for possible relief.

“We must continue working tirelessly to hold companies accountable for engaging in blatant misconduct that harms consumers,” Attorney General Hill said. “This consumer redress review program announced today is another step toward restoring people who have suffered from such misconduct.”

The consumer redress review program was a key component of the December 2018 settlement to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws by (1) opening millions of unauthorized accounts and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in third-party renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for force-placed and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance guaranteed asset/auto protection (“GAP”) products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.

As part of the program, Wells Fargo will maintain a website that contains information regarding consumers’ eligibility for redress.  Wells Fargo’s website describes the issues covered by the settlement agreement and provides escalation phone numbers consumers may use to request review. In addition, Wells Fargo will provide periodic reports to the states about ongoing remediation efforts.

Wells Fargo’s consumer redress review website may be accessed at: https://www.wellsfargo.com/commitment/redress/

Consumers with questions or concerns may call the following Wells Fargo escalation phone numbers:

  • Unauthorized Accounts / Improper Retail Sales Practices: 1-844-931-2273
  • Improper Renters and Life Insurance Referrals: 1-855-853-9638
  • Force-Placed Collateral Protection Auto Insurance (“CPI”): 1-888-228-9735
  • Guaranteed Asset/Auto Protection (“GAP”) Refunds: 1-844-860-6962
  • Mortgage Interest Rate Lock Extension Fees: 1-866-385-5008
