VANDERBURGH HUMANE SOCIETY BECOMES ‘PET PROJECT’ FOR TROPICANA EVANSVILLE TEAM MEMBERS!

Tropicana Evansville Team Members rallied behind the Vanderburgh Humane Society (VHS) during February Jeans Days to raise funds for the not-for-profit.  Jeans Days are pre-selected days during which Team Members may make a donation in return for the privilege to wear jeans.  VHS is the beneficiary of $692 donated by Tropicana Evansville Team Members.

“Jeans Days are a successful ongoing effort to give our Team Members the meaningful opportunity to give back to community groups which they select,” explains Bill Plahn, Executive Director of Human Resources.

VHS Development Coordinator, Amanda D. Coburn, will join Tropicana Evansville’s Sponsorship and Donations Coordinator, Amanda Schisler, for the check presentation in the Tropicana Hotel Lobby on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 3PM-3:15PM.  The media is cordially invited and encouraged to attend this event.  An adoptable canine will be on-hand for the event.

VHS’ most urgent need is always monetary donations.  With non-profit status, they can stretch each dollar to purchase needs that the public cannot purchase for them, such as medications, vaccines, equipment, utilities and more.

USI Softball set for The Spring Games

University of Southern Indiana Softball begins The Spring Games Saturday at 8 a.m. (CST) when it takes on Midwest Region foe Cedarville University in Clermont, Florida. The Screaming Eagles are scheduled to play 12 times at The Spring Games, including regional bouts against Cedarville, Grand Valley State University, Ashland University, Walsh University, The University of Findlay and Notre Dame College (Ohio).

Highlighted contests will be USI’s games against No. 14 Grand Valley State, Minnesota State University Mankato and No. 1 Saint Anselm College. The Eagles defeated Grand Valley State to advance to the NCAA II Midwest Super Regional last year, while USI swept Saint Anselm to win the national championship last year.

USI’s game against Minnesota State-Mankato is a bout between the last two national champions after the Mavericks won the 2017 crown.

The Eagles’ games against Grand Valley State, Wilmington University (Delaware), Ashland, Walsh, Minnesota State and Saint Anselm will be aired live on 95.7 The Spin. AG Curtis Hill announces start of Wells Fargo consumer redress review program

Program allows consumers who have not been made whole through other remediation programs to have inquiry reviewed by escalation team

On Dec. 28, 2018, Attorney General Curtis Hill announced that Wells Fargo Bank N.A. will pay $575 million to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws. As part of a settlement involving all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Indiana will receive $5.2 million. (See earlier release.)

Today, Attorney General Hill announced that Wells Fargo has begun a consumer redress review program through which consumers who have not yet been made whole through other remediation programs already in place can seek to have their inquiry or complaint reviewed by a Wells Fargo escalation team for possible relief.

“We must continue working tirelessly to hold companies accountable for engaging in blatant misconduct that harms consumers,” Attorney General Hill said. “This consumer redress review program announced today is another step toward restoring people who have suffered from such misconduct.”

The consumer redress review program was a key component of the December 2018 settlement to resolve claims that the bank violated state consumer protection laws by (1) opening millions of unauthorized accounts and enrolling customers into online banking services without their knowledge or consent, (2) improperly referring customers for enrollment in third-party renters and life insurance policies, (3) improperly charging auto loan customers for force-placed and unnecessary collateral protection insurance, (4) failing to ensure that customers received refunds of unearned premiums on certain optional auto finance guaranteed asset/auto protection (“GAP”) products, and (5) incorrectly charging customers for mortgage rate lock extension fees.

As part of the program, Wells Fargo will maintain a website that contains information regarding consumers’ eligibility for redress.  Wells Fargo’s website describes the issues covered by the settlement agreement and provides escalation phone numbers consumers may use to request review. In addition, Wells Fargo will provide periodic reports to the states about ongoing remediation efforts.

Aces baseball weekend schedule changed

With inclement weather forecasted for this coming Sunday in the Richmond, Ky., the Eastern Kentucky University Challenge has made several schedule changes affecting the University of Evansville baseball team.

The tournament will begin, as scheduled, Friday morning at 11 am Central Time with the Aces squaring off against Boston College. Saturday will begin bright and early for Evansville, playing the host Colonels of Eastern Kentucky , with a first pitch scheduled for 9 am Central Time. Then, the Aces will turn around and play Boston College again, with a first pitch scheduled for 1 pm Central Time.

Sunday’s tournament finale has been canceled due to the afore-mentioned inclement weather.

Applications Now Being Accepted for K-12 Student and Teacher Awards Applications are due March 8, 2019

Applications are now being accepted for the President’s Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) and The Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators Award (PIAEE).

EPA is seeking PEYA and PIAEE awards applications that highlight environmental stewardship in a variety of areas, including the following: environmental sustainability: a healthy school environment including projects that reduce food waste in school cafeterias; environmentally friendly agriculture practices; reducing human contributions to ocean litter and how to prevent it; school gardens; recycling; or using STEM to teach environmental education.

The PEYA program recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship projects by K-12 youth, promoting awareness of our nation’s natural resources and encouraging positive community involvement.

PEYA is an annual award administered by the Office of Environmental Education at EPA. Since 1971, EPA has recognized young people for protecting our nation’s air, water, land, and ecology. Each year the PEYA program honors a wide variety of projects developed by young individuals, school classes (kindergarten through high school), summer camps, public interest groups, and youth organizations to promote environmental awareness. Through environmental education and stewardship activities, students develop the critical thinking skills experience to make informed decisions and take responsible actions to address difficult environmental issues.

EPA will select up to two winners in each of EPA’s 10 Regions – one regional winner for Grades K-5 and one regional winner for Grades 6-12.  Winners of this year’s awards will be invited to a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in mid-2019, and have their project mentioned on EPA’s website.

All student projects must be sponsored by at least one adult over the age of 21. The application and eligibility information are available at: https://www.epa.gov/education/presidents-environmental-youth-award.

The PIAEE is an annual award program administered by the Office of Environmental Education at EPA. Since 1971, the EPA has recognized exceptional K-12 teachers employing innovative, interactive approaches to environmental education. It is one of the most important ways EPA and the Administration demonstrate commitment to environmental stewardship efforts created and conducted by our nation’s teachers.

PIAEE awardees will receive an award of up to $2,500 to be used to further the recipient’s professional development in environmental education. The teacher’s local education agency will also receive an award of up to $2,500 to fund environmental educational activities and programs (and not for construction costs, general expenses, salaries, bonuses, or other administrative expenses).

EPA will select up to two winners in each of EPA’s 10 Regions.

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE that GuideStar is a publication that collects legal information on all of the non-profit organizations in the United States?…GuideStar collects financial, organizational, performance, and management information on all of the non-profits nationwide?…based on the information that is public plus information that is voluntarily submitted to GuideStar by the non-profits, each organization is assigned a transparency grade from Nothing, to Bronze, to Silver, to Gold, and only the best of the best or 0.5% of the non-profits nationwide get the coveted Platinum rating?…of the 345 non-profits registered in Evansville, Indiana only 1 has been awarded a Platinum ranking for transparency? ...most have no rating at all which means they are not submitting information to the GuideStar public database?

IS IT TRUE it been reported in the Evansville Courier and Press that the salaries of Josh Armstrong and two (2) other full-time staff members of the Downtown Evansville Improvement District (EID) add up to $257,000 per year or about 37 percent of the EID yearly budget?

IS IT TRUE it’s been alleged by several reliable sources that the EID Board Of Directors just approved giving their CEO Josh Armstrong a $10,000 raise increase?  …the reason is given why Mr. Armtrong received such an astonishing raise increase was to bring his yearly salary up to the level that other EID CEOs are paid?  …there are over 1000 EIDs throughout North America, most are concentrated in downtown areas?  …that Louisville, Fort Wayne, Cincinnati, and Dayton have  EDI’s?  …we wonder which one of the 1000 plus EIDs did the EID Board of Directors use to guide the decision to increase Mr. Armstrrong yearly salary?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if any of the 345 non-profits organizations registered in Evansville, Indiana have increased any of the annual salaries of their CEO’s $10,000?

IS IT TRUE The Downtown Alliance says the EID, funded mostly through additional property tax fees tied to property valuation, is expected to raise around $625,000 per year to cover programs including business recruitment, safety, beautification, and marketing efforts. Alliance Director Joshua Armstrong says “the sustainability of a downtown organization has always been a challenge in Evansville, and this is the tool that creates the sustainability that unlocks continued transformational urban growth. Over 1,000 such districts are at work across the U.S.”

IS IT TRUE that the EID Board Of Directors members are President Jeff Justices-AIA the  President of Hafer And Associates since 2004He serves on the Southwest Indiana Chamber’s Board of Directors, Deaconess Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Foundation Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity, just to name a few. Phillipp Roberts has risen to senior vice president and regional director of Hilliard Lyons, residing in Evansville, overseeing four additional regional offices,  Stephanie Morris, Broker Manager of Tucker Realty and Brad Ellsworth Director of Vectren-South of Center Point Energy?

IS IT TRUE that Evansville, Indiana has always been accepting of a practice known as “political patronage” when it comes to jobs that are financed fully or partially by public dollars?…it has been so entrenched that a former Evansville Mayor whom we shall not name has been quoted as saying “I get all of the credit and they take all of the blame” to justify appointing his political supporters to jobs under his control?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty!
IS IT TRUE the results of our most recent non-scientific but trendy “READERS POLL” was extremely eye-opening? …the question was “who’s the most effective State Representative in our area”?  ..Wendy McNamara (R)-193, Ron Beacon (R)- 174, Matt Hostetter (R)-123, Holli Sullivan (R)-61 and Ryan Hatfield (D) received a disappointing 27 votes?  …78 people said they had no idea?…665 people voted in this non-science but trendy poll?
