Lea and Rodriguez set the Aces Top 15 times at the John McNichols Invitational
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The University of Evansville cross country teams returned to action at the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday morning.
Sophomore runners Samuel Lea (Worchester, England) and Rafael Rodriguez (Segovia, Spain) set two Top 15 program times in the men’s 8K with personal bests at the John McNichols Invitational for the Purple Aces. Lea led all UE runners with a time of 25:02.5 for sixth overall among Division I runners in Terre Haute. Rodriguez finished eighth among Division I runners with a time of 25:07.1. The two times are good for 12th and 14th in program history in the men’s 8K.
Also finishing on the men’s side for Evansville were returning runners Woody Burrell (Cedarburg, Wis. / Ceaderburg HS) with a time of 26:31, Cedrik Flipo (Beloeil, Quebec) with a time of 26:58, and Adam Oulgout (St. Paul, Minn. / Central HS) with a time of 27:17. The Aces also had four freshman runners compete on Saturday with Andrew Potter (Warsaw, Ind. / Warsaw Community HS) with a time of 28:21, Kadin McAllister (Lilburn, Ga. / Parkview HS) with a time of 28:27, Oliver Wilgocki (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton HS) with a time of 28:36, and Vincent Filipek (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS) with a time of 30:38.
On the women’s team in the 6K the fastest finisher for the Aces was sophomore Avery Stephens (Newburg, Ind. / Castle HS) with a time of 24:41. She was followed by sophomore Kyndall Anthis (Patoka, Ind. / Princeton Community HS) with a time of 25:08. The first freshman finisher of the morning for the UE women was Lauren Bradley (Russiaville, Ind. / Western HS) with a time of 25:12. She was followed by senior Hannah Bryan (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) with a time of 25:37 and sophomore Chase Hayes (Noblesville, Ind. / Western HS) with a time of 27:39. Rounding out results for the women’s team were freshmen Skyler Dickenson (Brownsburg, Ind. / Brownsburg HS) with a time of 29:49 and Rebekah Sachs (Milwaukee / Milwaukee School of Languages) with a time of 30:56.
Evansville returns to action in two weeks at one of the largest cross country meets in the country. The Aces will head to Louisville for the Live in Lou meet hosted by the Cardinals on Saturday, October 5th.

Chesterton Farmers Market wins Indiana’s Ultimate Farmers Market Challenge
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 19, 2024) – Indiana Grown and the Indiana Farmers Market Community of Practice (INFMP) announced the winner of Indiana’s Ultimate Farmers Market Challenge as Coffee Creek Farmers Market in Chesterton, Ind.
This was the second year for this contest and was a chance for customers across the state to vote for their favorite hometown farmers market to encourage local engagement and statewide recognition.
Coffee Creek Farmers Market is a weekday farmers market (Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m.). Its mission is to promote and develop a local sustainable food system.
“What’s great about this challenge is that the farmers markets are nominated and then voted on by their community, and its wonderful to see so much community engagement,” said Christina Ferroli, INFMP Program Coordinator. “We cannot thank community supporters enough for their votes and for supporting the farmers and food grown in their local communities.”
Indiana Grown Director Caroline Patrick is excited for the Chesterton community.
“Coffee Creek is a wonderful farmers market and this recognition is well deserved,” said Patrick. “Farmers markets are an integral part of Indiana communities’ economies. We were thrilled to have so many great nominations for farmers markets and it is great to see consumers supporting them.”
Coffee Creek Farmers Markets are Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Market season runs to Oct. 30, 2024. The market is located at 2300 Village Point Chesterton, IN 46304.

Evansville, IN – September 18, 2024 – The Old National Events Plaza announces an annual service award in honor and memory of Scott Guzzo, a beloved team member who inspired our staff, and many others throughout the community. Beginning this year, the venue will recognize an employee who demonstrates a commitment to excellence and the highest levels of guest service.
Scott Guzzo began as a volunteer usher for the Events Plaza more than a decade ago and continued to serve guests as a part-time team member until his passing on June 19, 2023. Scott’s dedication to his role was characterized by consistent positivity and enjoyment in serving others. Guzzo was enthusiastic about assisting our guests with wayfinding, helping resolve challenges and ensuring all voices were heard and valued.
Old National Events Plaza General Manager, Nick Wallace said, “We were all saddened to hear of Scott’s passing last year. He played an integral part on our events team. We wanted to honor his memory and his impact on each of us. With the help of the Guzzo family, we created the annual Scott Guzzo Memorial Service Award. The award will honor staff members who embody admirable qualities in their service, ensuring that Scott’s legacy lives on for future generations.”
The inaugural Scott Guzzo Memorial Service Award celebrates the service of Joe Miles, our long-time welcome desk representative. The Old National Events Plaza is pleased to recognize Miles for his exceptional service and dedication, illustrating the values that Scott Guzzo personified.
Joe is often the first member of our team to connect with guests at our welcome desk. He is kind, respectful and always helpful in directing traffic, answering event questions, and helping visitors find their way around downtown Evansville. Miles consistently offers his best and continues to be an example of the values we aim to achieve as a team.
“Joe is an excellent example of how every role matters. His work at our welcome desk keeps our guests happy, the team operational, and our workflow efficient. His smile represents our organization in the community, and we are proud to recognize his service and commitment to helping others,” said Wallace.
The Scott Guzzo Memorial Service Award was presented to Miles on Sunday, September 15th, in the Aiken Theatre at Old National Events Plaza. The ceremony included members of the venue’s event staff and Scott’s parents.
Regarding the memorial service award, Guzzo’s parents stated, “Scott would be so pleased and in awe of this award being presented in his honor and memory. He always looked forward to volunteering and working at Old National Events Plaza’s events. His favorite part was greeting the guests. Since Scott’s passing, we’ve been told by many patrons that they miss seeing him. Scott’s contribution to the Evansville community was greater than we knew.”
