Where do all the Downtown Evansville construction projects stand?
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Major construction projects continue across Downtown Evansville, and in some cases, they are nearing the finish line.
Here’s a glimpse at what’s happening:
St. Vincent Evansville YMCA
This $16.5 million St.Vincent Evansville YMCA is on the fastest track of any Downtown construction. It’s set to open on Labor Day weekend at Court and Northwest Sixth streets, across from the current YMCA.
The two-story building isn’t bigger than the existing YMCA, but it will better utilize space. Its second-floor wellness area will have large windows with views of Downtown. St. Vincent will occupy some of the building with a family-care practitioner and physical therapy rehabilitation services.
YMCA officials have not determined how the vacated building will be used, except for one section that’s being turned into 62 affordable housing units.
Hyatt Place
Developer Hemang Shah expects the 139-room Hyatt Place hotel on Southeast Second Street to be finished by the end of 2019.
The $18 million project was announced three years ago and encountered some delays, but Shah said construction will accelerate once the building is under roof, which will happen soon.
The Mediterranean
Construction continues at the old Riverhouse at Riverside Drive and Walnut Street, which developer George Yerolemou is turning into a boutique hotel called The Mediterranean. This hotel project also has had some delays.
The building’s exterior is taking shape, but an updated timeframe has not been released. Once finished, it’s expected to have about 70 guest rooms.
Post House
At $40 million, Post House is viewed by Evansville officials as a major Downtown development, bringing housing, retail and innovation. Surrounded by the Old Post Office, Fifth Third Center and Bru Burger Bar, the two-building project is expected to finish in early 2020, weather permitting.
Leasing is to start in September on the property’s 144 apartments. Price points have not yet been released. The property has a rooftop outdoor pool for its residents.
The ground floor has storefront spaces, and occupants are being sought.
Parking is underground, and the property is to have solar panels and electric car charging.
Vectren, a CenterPoint Energy company, will pilot energy efficiency technologies at Post House. Others partners are Scannell of Indianapolis, CRG Residential of Carmel and property manager Barrett & Stokely of Indianapolis.
Between the complex’s two buildings is a spacious grassy area with a large overhead video screen.
Deaconess Clinic
Steel framing is erected for the new Deaconess Clinic on Walnut Street. A spring 2020 completion date was announced when the project broke ground in February.

Obituary for Lynn Dorsie Burns
Lynn Dorsie Burns (Aka Linnie, Uncle Linnie, Mr. Burns, Brother Burns, Chi-Town, OG) was born on June 14, 1958 in Chicago, IL to the blessed parents of Jeff Burns and Christine Burns (Ford). At age 17, he enlisted in the US Army and held the rank of Corporal at Ft. Lewis in Washington State.
Shortly after, he married, and became the proud father of 4 beautiful daughters whom he loved and protected. He simultaneously owned and operated businesses with his loving and supportive wife of 13 years, Laura Burns. And when his godmother, Ulessa Randolph, introduced him to the real estate business, he became passionate about that as well and began to buy, sell, and rent out properties.
As a resident of the Englewood area of Chicago, Lynn was appointed Precinct Captain for the Alderman. He was a well-respected leader in other communities and influential circles, as well. He would fight against the injustices that he saw and demanded the respect he believed he deserved for himself and strangers.
In 2004, he relocated to Southern Indiana near Kentucky. There, his skilled hands helped him to make a career change when he went into construction. His craftsmanship can be found in homes, buildings, and churches all across the tristate.
He spent his time not only remodeling and building structures, but relationships with some of the most powerful people in the area and was a part of many City Initiatives to help families and Veterans.
He took time to serve and speak up for his fellow veterans, people of color, the underserved and disenfranchised. He could often be seen being interviewed on the nightly news and sharing his strong opinions about different issues within the city.
He was a dear friend and lover of all. He would voluntarily help anyone that he could. He could always be found trying to share his vast knowledge and experiences with someone. It was important to him to teach all that he could and spend as much time as he could with the people he loved and would often hug them and tell them.
In 2014, he completed his degree in Social Work. In 2015, he became a founding member of Freedom Life Outreach Ministries where he was pastored by his son-in-law and youngest daughter, Dawoyne and Lisandria Robertson. He would share his testimony of God’s favor in his life and made it his top priority to “win souls†for Christ and encouraged others to do the same!
In 2018, He began working towards becoming a Life Skills Coach and Marriage Counselor. He also met the new love of his life, Angela Grant of London, England, UK. He spoke of her to all he loved. Early 2019 they had begun to arrange things for him to move to London and then Paris, France to marry in 2020 and to pick up where he had left off with his career in the Fashion Industry.
Linnie transitioned on July 16, 2019, before being able to meet with Angela, but he will always live in her heart and through the lives of all he touched. His memory will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him and his laugh will remain immortal.

Motorcyclist Killed in Northwest Vanderburgh County
A motorcyclist was killed this afternoon in Northern Vanderburgh County after a collision with another vehicle. At 3:44 PM today the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, along with emergency medical personnel from the German Township Fire Department and AMR, responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Fischer Road and Deer Lake Drive.
First responders arrived to the scene to find a black 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe positioned on top of a yellow 2017 Suzuki RMZ450 motorcycle in the roadway. The on scene investigation indicated that the collision occurred as a result of the black Chevrolet Tahoe turning into the path of the motorcycle. The force of the collision resulted in the driver being thrown a considerable distance from the motorcycle.
Despite life-saving measures being attempted by first responders, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was uninjured. Pursuant to Indiana state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe voluntarily submitted to blood and urine analysis by the Indiana Department of Toxicology. The crash will remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office pending the official toxicology analysis and crash reconstruction, although drugs and alcohol are not initially believed to be a factor. The crash resulted in the closure of Fischer Road between Orchard Road and Schenk Road for nearly three hours while first responders worked the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.
The above image depicts the motorcycle pinned beneath the Chevrolet Tahoe. For informational purposes the image does not contain the body of the deceased individual, rather the pixelation is used to cover the motorcycle’s registration plate to protect the privacy of the victim.

Senator Braun’s Statement on Mueller Testimony
U.S. Senator Mike Braun released the following statement regarding former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before the U.S. House Committees on the Judiciary and Intelligence:
“Unsurprisingly, today’s audiobook of the Mueller report provided no new information from when Attorney General Barr released it with unprecedented transparency: the Trump campaign still did not collude with Russia, President Trump still did not obstruct justice, and Democrats in Congress still need to move on to the real problems Americans sent us here to fix.†– Senator Mike Braun
