MONDAY

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

TUESDAY

“So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.”

WEDNESDAY

“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.”

THURSDAY

“And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.”

FRIDAY

“And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News.”

SATURDAY

“That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.”

SUNDAY

“Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.”

Indiana State Police Participate In 6-State Trooper Project

0

The Indiana State Police along with Troopers from Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan and Pennsylvania will be conducting state-wide patrols targeting violations of the “Move Over” laws in each of those states beginning Sunday, July 21, 2019. The project, which was initially started by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, encompasses the five states that border the State of Ohio.

Troopers in all participating states will be conducting high visibility enforcement and education of the “Move Over” law.

Indiana state statute 9-21-8-35(b) requires vehicles to “move over or slowdown.”

Indiana statute 9-21-8-35(b) and (c) states:

(b) Upon approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle, when the authorized emergency vehicle is giving a signal by displaying alternately flashing red, red and white, or red and blue lights, a person who drives an approaching vehicle shall:

(1) proceeding with due caution, yield the right-of-way by making a lane change into a lane not adjacent to that of the authorized emergency vehicle, if possible with due regard to safety and traffic conditions, if on a highway having at least four (4) lanes with not less than two (2) lanes proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle; or

(2) proceeding with due caution, reduce the speed of the vehicle to a speed at least ten (10) miles per hour less than the posted speed limit, maintaining a safe speed for road conditions, if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe.

A person who violates this subsection commits a Class A infraction.

(c) Upon approaching a stationary recovery vehicle, a stationary utility service vehicle (as defined in IC 8-1-8.3-5), a stationary solid waste hauler, a stationary road, street, or highway maintenance vehicle, or a stationary survey or construction vehicle, when the vehicle is giving a signal by displaying alternately flashing amber lights, a person who drives an approaching vehicle shall:

(1) proceeding with due caution, yield the right-of-way by making a lane change into a lane not adjacent to that of the recovery vehicle, utility service vehicle, solid waste hauler, or road, street, or highway maintenance vehicle, if possible with due regard to safety and traffic conditions, if on a highway having at least four (4) lanes with not less than two (2) lanes proceeding in the same direction as the approaching vehicle; or

(2) proceeding with due caution, reduce the speed of the vehicle to a speed at least ten (10) miles per hour less than the posted speed limit, maintaining a safe speed for road conditions, if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe.

A person who violates this subsection commits a Class B infraction.

The project, which runs from July 21st through July 27th, will encompass all roadways in the State of Indiana.  Buckle up and drive safe!

Otters win in extras to take series against Freedom

0
In his first game as an Otter, Elijah MacNamee hit the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 10th inning to give the Evansville Otters a 5-4 win Sunday, clinching the series against the Florence Freedom.

Florence and Evansville, who hold the two best records in the Frontier League, went back and forth in Sunday’s rubber match.

In the bottom of the first inning, Florence struck first as Andre Mercurio hit an RBI single to score Austin Wobrock and give Florence the early lead.

Evansville would respond in the top of the second when J.J. Gould hit a hard groundball to Wobrock at shortstop. Wobrock committed an error as the ball went through his glove, allowing Rob Calabrese to score and tie the game at one.

In the top of the third, Keith Grieshaber singled to lead off the inning, extending his hitting streak to 16 games.

Ryan Long would drive Grieshaber in on a double, collecting his fourth RBI of the series, and pushing the Otters ahead 2-1.

In the bottom of the third, Florence’s Connor Crane hit a solo home run, his fifth RBI of the series, off Otters starter Tyler Beardsley to even the game at 2-2.

Crane picked up another RBI in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Brandon Pugh on a single that gave the Freedom a 3-2 lead.

The Otters would reclaim the lead in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI hits by Gould, scoring Rob Calabrese, and David Cronin, scoring Gould, to put the Otters back in front 4-3.

Both RBI hits came with two outs for the Otters.

Cronin’s single would force Florence to pull starter Mike Castellani. The Freedom lefty threw 5.2 innings, allowing four runs – three earned – on 10 hits while having five strikeouts.

Otters starter Tyler Beardsley was able to get out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth, stranding two runners at second and third to keep the Otters ahead.

Beardsley tossed six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.

Otters reliever Drew Beyer came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh and was able to strikeout Crane for the first out, but the next batter in Isaac Bernard hit a solo home run to tie the game 4-4.

Beyer ran into some trouble in the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and no outs.

Beyer stayed strong, striking out pinch hitter Jackson Pritchard and Crane, followed by Bernard flying out to Grieshaber in left to end the threat.

Both Florence’s closer, Johnathan Tripp, and Evansville’s closer, Taylor Wright, pitched scoreless half innings in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.

Carlos Castro led off the top of the tenth for the Otters with a single and was pinch ran for by Jack Meggs.

The turning point in the inning came when Calabrese was at the plate and Freedom reliever Karl Craigie committed a throwing error that allowed Meggs to go first to third on a failed pickoff attempt.

Calabrese drew a walk to put runners on the corners for the Otters and no outs.

Two batters later, the newly acquired MacNamee was able to drive a ball deep enough to right field to allow Meggs to score the go-ahead run on a sac fly and give the Otters a 5-4 edge.

The Freedom did not go without one last effort in the bottom of the tenth, leading off with back-to-back singles by Ricky Ramirez Jr. and Luis Pintor, but Evansville’s all-star closer would buckle down.

Wright got Pugh to hit a groundball to Gould, taking the ball himself to second for the first out and throwing on to first for the second out, turning a 6-3 double play.

With Ramirez advancing and standing at third with two outs, representing the game-tying run, Wright struck out Pritchard to seal the 5-4 win and series win for the Otters.

Wright picked up his third win of the season after getting wins on May 22 at Gateway in a 14-11, 12-inning win and on June 15 in a 7-6 win against Schaumburg. Wright now has 39 strikeouts and a 0.86 ERA in 2019.

Craigie was given the loss, dropping his record to 4-2.

The Otters are one of two teams to defeat the Florence Freedom in a series, and the only team to take multiple series against the Freedom, winning all three series meetings this season.

“IS IT TRUE” JULY 22 2019

5

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way

IS IT TRUE the attached City Ordinance that will be voted on at tonights City Council meeting is something to behold?  …that the Evansville DMD is asking for additional money for Historic District lighting and money for a handicap accessible van for Food Desert Transportation program?  …the DMD is asking City Council to approve $100,000 for the creation of a historic preservation facade grants program?  …we highly recommend that you click the following link concerning these requests?

F-2019-12 Attachment

IS IT TRUE at tonights City Council meeting members will be considering a new ordinance  concerning the placement of unsolicited materials on private property?  …many people feel that this proposed ordinance is overreaching, unenforceable and bureaucrat? …this ordinance is the brain child of none other then the lame duck City Councilwomen Michelle Mercer (R)?

IS IT TRUE our ‘Readers Poll” question for last week was: “Should the Presidents of the City Council, Vanderburgh County Commission and County Council been invited to welcome the participants of the Fastpitch Softball tournament to Vanderburgh County”?  …that 520 people participated in this non-scientific but trendy poll? …427 (82%) people voted “YES”?  …43 (8%) people voted “No” and 50 (10%) people had “NO IDEA”? …according to our readers they feel that the CVB Executive Director made a major political mistake when he didn’t invite the Presidents of City Council, County Commission and County Council to participate in the opening ceremonies of the National Fastpitch Tournament held at the Ford Center?  …one would think after serving in capacity of Executive Director of the CVB for around 14 months he would had learned political protocol by now?

IS IT TRUE last week the new owners of Ellis Park held a press conference?  …they made some big ticket promises concerning $55 millions dollars worth of renovations and new construction projects that are scheduled to begin sometime this fall? …so far they are have done a good job in some of the nominal interior and exterior renovations they done?

IS IT TRUE original plans were that Saratoga Gaming Of New York were going to operate Ellis Park during the live meet only?  …we are now told by credible sources that Saratoga Gaming Of New York may continue to operate Ellis Park until the end of this year?.

IS IT TRUE according to WRDB TV, Louisville, the Kentucky Supreme Court will weigh in for the second time in a long-running case challenging the legality of the nearly 3,000 slot-like “Historical Horse Racing” machines that have been installed at racetrack-owned venues around the state since 2011?
IS IT TRUE that WRDB TV, Louisville also reported that Casino gambling is illegal in Kentucky, but the current gaming machines are designed to mimic slots while basing the results of each spin on an old horse race, selected at random, which players are not able to identify in advance?
IS IT TRUE we hope that the owners of Casinos located in Kentucky will show their patrons how to use the additional option of betting on past horse races all over America? …we are told that this betting feature is available on every “Instant Historical Horse Racing” machine in the State Of Kentucky but is rarely used?

IS IT TRUE we hope that the new owners of Ellis Park are aware about the planned $300 million dollars Harness Racetrack /Casino?  …this development will also have an upscale Hotel with three (3) restaurants and Equestrian Training Center?  …the owners of this development are Churchill Downs and Kneeled and will be built in the Hopkinsville, Ky. area in the near future?

IS IT TRUE we hope that the new owners of Ellis Park realizes that the State Of Indiana has recently approved legislation that will allow Indiana Casinos to open “SPORTS BOOKS” parlors at their facilities?

IS IT TRUE we predict that the competition between all of the area Casinos over the next several years will be extremely interesting to watch?  …it wouldn’t surprise us if at least one Casino will cease doing business during that time?

IS IT TRUE that the only way to promote the best in an election is by candidates and their sponsors being straightforward, open, and clear in their communication to voters?

IS IT TRUE  that “a lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity.”  …this is a quote by the Dalai Lama?

Todays“Readers Poll” question is: Should the Evansville City Council approve a $100,000 grant request to create a facade grant program in the Historic Preservation?
