Former State Rep. Christina Hale announces Run For Congress

Staff Report
TheStatehouseFile.com

INDIANAPOLIS – Former Democratic State Rep. Christina Hale announced Thursday that she is officially running for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District seat.

Last month, Republican Susan Brooks, who has held the seat since 2012, announced she would not seek re-election. The district, which runs from the north side of Marion County north through Hamilton County and up to Grant County, long has been considered a safe GOP seat, but Democrats see an opening with Brooks’ retirement and changing demographics.

Hale, who built a statewide profile when she ran for lieutenant governor in 2016 with Democrat John Gregg, said in a statement that she will focus her campaign on giving a voice to middle-class Hoosiers.

“People want their representatives to not only understand but to feel the challenges they face. I know these challenges personally,” Hale said. “I know the price of milk and how hard it can be to find quality daycare. I’ve been a single mom scrapping to balance work and school, and then repay my student loans and buy my first house.”

“Whether it was doing what’s best for my family or trying to get ahead in the working world, I’ve had to work for it,” she said. “That’s exactly what Hoosiers can expect of me in Congress where I’ll fight every day to make life better for people by lowering the cost of health care and working to ensure that we have an economy that works for everybody.”

Hale was first elected to the Indiana General Assembly in 2012, defeating an incumbent Republican state representative. There, she built a reputation for working across political party lines. During her 2014 reelection bid, Hale earned the support of both the AFL-CIO, a statewide labor organization, and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Since the unsuccessful 2016 campaign, Hale, a Purdue University graduate, has served as executive director of youth programs for Kiwanis International.

Several Republicans, including former State Sen. Mike Delph of Carmel and Sen. John Ruckelshaus of Indianapolis, are eying the race. Two Democrats, Dee Thornton, a corporate consultant from Carmel who lost to Brooks in 2018, and Jennifer Christie, who ran in the Democratic primary in 2018, have also filed their candidacies.

Chicago Lawyer Who Neglected Clients Also Suspended In Indiana

IL Staff for www.theidianalawyer.com

A Chicago-based attorney who is also licensed in Indiana was suspended by the Indiana Supreme Court as reciprocal discipline after he was suspended from the practice of law in Illinois for professional misconduct.
The Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission filed a verified notice of foreign discipline and petition for issuance of an order to show cause, finding Nicholas C. Kefalos had been disciplined by the state of Illinois. The commission requested reciprocal discipline be imposed for Kefalos in Indiana.
Kefalos was first issued an order to show cause in April by the Indiana Supreme Court. That move came one month after the Supreme Court of Illinois issued an order suspending Kefalos for six months due to professional misconduct.
The attorney failed to diligently represent three clients, did not communicate with them and failed to refund a total of $2,550 in unearned fees, according to the Illinois State Bar Association. Kefalos also made a false statement to one of his clients and did not cooperate with an investigation into his conduct by the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois.

Upon finding no reason why he should not be reciprocally disciplined, Indiana Supreme Court justices in a Thursday order directed Kefalos be suspended indefinitely from the practice of law in the Hoosier state.

If Kefalos is reinstated to practice in Illinois, he may file a Motion for Release from Reciprocal Suspension pursuant to Admission and Discipline Rule 23(20)(g), provided no other suspension order in effect against him.

The costs of the proceeding are assessed against him. All justices concurred, with Chief Justice Loretta Rush writing the order.

“LEFT JAB AND RIGHT JAB” JULY 15, 2019

LEFT JAB AND RIGHT JAB”

“Right Jab And Left Jab” was created because we have two commenters that post on a daily basis either in our “IS IT TRUE” or “Readers Forum” columns concerning National or International issues.
Joe Biden and Ronald Reagan’s comments are mostly about issues of national interest.  The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give Mr. Biden and Mr. Reagan exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “Left Jab” is a liberal view and the “Right Jab is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments of the two gentlemen is free to do so.

Crushers even series with game

0
The Lake Erie Crushers pulled away late from the Evansville Otters Saturday, scoring five runs in the ninth inning and defeating the Otters 9-1 to even the series.

After scoreless first and second innings, the Crushers scored the first run of the game as Kody Ruedisili hit into a fielder’s choice in the top of the third inning to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead.

The Otters had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the third.

Making his first start as an Otter, outfielder Jake Gozzo reached first base on a dropped third strike call, as catcher Bryan DeLaRosa could not throw to first baseman Jake Veith in time after dropping the pitch from starter Jared Koenig.

With one out, David Cronin worked a walk, giving the Otters runners on first and second.

Keith Greishaber singled to make the bases loaded with one out and Ryan Long stepping to the dish.

Unfortunately, Long struck out for the first of two times in the evening, and a fly out by Mike Rizzitello ended the threat for the Otters.

Evansville stranded two runners in the fourth and fifth innings without a run scoring.

An RBI single by Ruedisili in the fifth and a solo home run by Emmanuel Marrero in the sixth gave the Crushers a 3-0 lead.

Otters starter Austin Nicely went seven innings, allowing three runs – two earned – on five hits. Nicely took the loss.

A solo home run by Lake Erie’s Aaron Hill in the eighth extended the Crushers’ lead to four.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Otters scored their first run of the game on a pinch-hit RBI single by Dakota Phillips, driving in Rizzitello to make the score 4-1.

Lake Erie would pull away in the top of the ninth to secure the win, sending 11 men to the plate, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run by Jake Veith, to give the Crushers their 9-1 advantage.
