Below is a list of events and activities happening in and around the USI community in the coming weeks:

Tuesday, September 10

Assessment Day

The University of Southern Indiana will not hold classes on Tuesday, September 10 in order to conduct its fall Assessment Day. One day each fall and spring, classes are not scheduled so students may fulfill their obligation to participate in the testing. The Assessment Day results are used for the accrediting process for USI. Faculty members may also use the results to make curriculum changes. Students will receive notification by letter and by email of testing time and location. More Information

Founders’ Day Luncheon and Alumni Awards Presentation

The University of Southern Indiana Alumni Association will host its annual Founders’ Day Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 11 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West on the USI campus. The event will include a tribute to USI’s founders and the presentation of awards from the Alumni Association. More Information

New Harmony Gallery hosts Docey Lewis exhibition Threading My Way

An exhibition of work by Docey Lewis titled Threading My Way that incorporates her very successful commercial design career with her new ventures into the fine arts realm will be held at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art through Friday, October 4. This activity is made possible, in part, with support from the Efroymson Family Fund, the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Read More

USI Theatre begins 2019-20 season with The Revolutionists

University of Southern Indiana Theatre will open its 2019-20 season with the new comedy The Revolutionists, written by Lauren Gunderson. The production runs October 3-6 in the USI Performance Center located in University Center East on USI’s campus. Tickets are $2 for USI students, $10 for USI employees, $4 for non-USI students (student ID required), $10 for seniors (60+), and $12 for adults. Registration closes Tuesday, October 15; Race is Saturday, November 2

Registration now open for the 18th annual Norwegian Foot March

The 18th annual Norwegian Foot March, an intense mental and physical challenge, will take participants 18.6 miles through the rolling hills of Evansville’s west side. Carrying a 25-pound rucksack, participants will begin and end on the USI campus, working to make it back to the finish line generally in under four and a half hours depending on age and gender. ROTC cadets, soldiers and veterans, as well as civilians, may register individually or as part of a four-member team. Registration can be completed online or by calling USI Outreach and Engagement at 812-464-1989. Early registration is recommended, as the event sells out quickly. ROTC cadets from any school can register for $25 and all other participants can register for $45. Registration will close on October 15 or when the event is full at 500 participants. Courtney Lee Johnson, Founder of Young & Established, was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern Indiana.

Since embarking on his entrepreneurship journey, Courtney has dedicated his time and energy to giving back to his community and inspiring those he meets along the way.

Johnson created Young & Established 6 years ago to build a community-oriented organization which seeks to inspire and motivate youth while addressing the challenges young people face every day.

Tyson is a 4-year-old male pit bull mix! He’s a beautiful gold brindle color. He is a bit nervous in new situations but warms up quickly, and would likely do fine in any home that wasn’t too overwhelming right away! He was surrendered in February due to a divorce. Women’s Golf Caps Off Fall Opener

The Purple Aces finished the event in 15th place after a 80-over par, three round score.

Sophia Rohleder carded a 5-over par final round to finish tied for 20th, bringing her tournament birdie total to eight.

Allison Enchelmayer finished her first college tournament in a tie for 67th at 21-over 237.

Caitlin O’Donnel and Alyssa McMinn tied for 78th with a 25-over performance over 54 holes.

The Aces are set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. in the final round at the Redbird Invitational.

The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is happy to host Art Conversations and Critiques — a new monthly artist-led gathering focusing on the pursuits, insights, challenges and language of art.
Art Conversations and Critiques meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, 212 Main St. in Downtown Evansville.
About Art Conversations and Critiques:
Conversations may focus on art in the Bower-Suhrheinrich Art Gallery, works in progress of participating artists, or other art related topics. Critiques will focus on describing, analyzing and interpreting art in order to increase our understanding of the creative process and the artists’ intentions and meanings.
Art Conversations and Critiques goal is to provide a comfortable atmosphere, not only for artists, but also for anyone wanting to expand their appreciation and support of art in their personal creative journey as well as in our community.

Eagles finish sixth in season-opener

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Golf shot a closing round 314 to finish sixth out of 13 teams in the 24th annual Screaming Eagles Classic at Cambridge Golf Course Monday.

The Screaming Eagles began their season-opening tournament with a 329 in Sunday’s first round and finished with a 36-hole tally of 643.

Sophomore Hannah Herma (DeMotte, Indiana) finished 18th in the 77-player field to pace the Eagles after closing the tournament with a five-over-par 77. She opened the weekend with a 79 and finished with a two-day total of 157 (+13).

Senior Abbey Leighty (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) had a four-over 76 in Sunday’s opening round to post the Eagles’ low round. Leighty finished in a tie for 19th after shooting 81 Monday for a two-round score of 157.

Great Lakes Valley Conference newcomer Lindenwood University captured the team title with a two-round score of 599 (299-300), while Missouri University of Science & Technology was second with a 609 (311-298). Indiana Tech (630/320-310), Lewis University (633/323-310) and Bellarmine University (640/329-311) rounded out the top five teams.

Lindenwood’s Josefina Haupt posted a two-over par 146 (74-72) to finish first, while Missouri S&T’s Taylor Ornelas (75-72) was a shot off the winning pace at 147 (75-72). Lindenwood’s McKenna Montgomery (149), who had the tournament’s low round Sunday with a two-under 70, joined teammate Noeila Rodriguez Chicote (150) on the All-Tournament team, while Indiana Tech’s Cecilia Heck (151) rounded out the All-Tournament award winners with a fifth-place finish.

USI returns to action September 23-24 when it competes at the Queens University Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina.
