Events held throughout the week
USI to hold week of events promoting media literacy
The University of Southern Indiana will host events on campus from Monday, October 21 through Friday, October 25 in recognition of National Media Literacy Week. On Monday, October 21, students entering the David L. Rice Library will be encouraged to store their cell phones and create a “smartphone-free library†in order to raise awareness of media exposure and constant media access. Rice Library will also host a Facebook Live stream at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25 highlighting techniques to find credible news and academic sources. Read More

University of Southern Indiana to host “Teaching the Holocaust, Empowering Students†classroom training
The University of Southern Indiana and the Committee to Promote Respect in Schools (CYPRESS) will host the Echoes & Reflections professional development program, “Teaching the Holocaust, Empowering Students,†from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 22. in University Center Rooms 2217-2218 on the USI campus. Fiction writer and poet, Joe Wilkins, to present work at Griffin Center
The University of Southern Indiana will host fiction writer and poet, Joe Wilkins, as a part of the fall 2019 Southern Indiana Reading Series at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at the Griffin Center located on the USI campus. The event, which will feature a reading and reception for the author, is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and for signing. Read More

USI to exhibit woodwork of John McNaughton, art alumni
The University of Southern Indiana’s McCutchan Art Center and Pace Galleries will host two exhibitions of wooden sculptures and wood-media artwork through October 25, 2019. A free, public reception for the exhibitions will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 25. Still Kicking and Carving: John McNaughton features the work of nationally acclaimed artist and USI professor emeritus of art John McNaughton. The work in this exhibition is made up of meticulously fashioned, wooden sculptures and function objects, both big and small, with subject matter ranging from political commentary to personal struggles. Read More

USI Chamber Choir, Women’s Choir to hold fall concert
The University of Southern Indiana Women’s Choir and Chamber Choir will hold their Fall Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 27 in the David L. Rice Library 2nd Floor Reading Room. Works by Sweelinck, Svilainis, Trotta and Luboff will be among the performed pieces. The concert is free and open to the public.

7:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2
18th annual Norwegian Foot March
The 18th annual Norwegian Foot March, an intense mental and physical challenge, will take participants 18.6 miles through the rolling hills of Evansville’s west side on Saturday, November 2. Carrying a 25-pound rucksack, participants will begin and end on the USI campus, working to make it back to the finish line generally in under four and a half hours depending on age and gender.
