Fresh off of another record-breaking performance, University of Evansville senior Gabriela Macedo was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference with her third Defensive Player of the Week award.

“Gabi has worked hard since her injury last season to put herself in this position,” Purple Aces coach Fernando Morales said.  “She deserves all of these recognitions and she will keep working to get us more wins.

Macedo set a program single-match dig record while posting the second-most in MVC history with 46 digs on Friday against Drake.  For the weekend, Macedo averaged an unbelievable 6.70 digs per set with a total of 67 in ten sets of work.  Her effort against the Bulldogs also included three assists.

AG Curtis Hill issues statement on prosecutor’s decision to ignore marijuana law

0

Attorney General Curtis Hill today made the following statement regarding a declaration by Marion County’s acting prosecutor that he will not file charges against anyone accused solely of possessing one ounce or less of marijuana:

“I respect and support the fact that prosecutors have absolute discretion in deciding when to file criminal charges and how to allocate their resources. Typically, though, prosecutors carefully exercise this discretion on a case-by-case basis rather than proclaiming that in all cases they will ignore a particular state law not to their liking. I am concerned that this proclamation in Marion County will attract to Indianapolis people with a particular interest in communities where drug enforcement is lax. It seems to me a curious strategy to put out a welcome mat for lawbreakers in a community already facing challenges related to crime, homelessness and other social problems stemming from drug abuse.”

As a member of the RTech Startup Network, Quarion is invited to present to the annual meeting of the RILA Workplace Safety Committee being held at the headquarters of Walgreens in Deerfield, Illinois on October 29 and 30. This year’s presentation will take the form of a

series of seven minutes “speed dating” style presentations to groups composed of the thirty-five safety executives who represent familiar retailers such as Target, Meijer, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, Walgreens, Advanced Auto Parts and many others. This format allows each of the Startup Network participants the opportunity to interact one-on-one with safety executives in order to match their technology and services with the operational needs of the retailers. Many past participants have gone on to receive technology development and implementation contracts following the annual Workplace Safety Committee event.

From State Rep. Wendy McNamara (from 10/18/19 News Update)

 Celebrations like Halloween and fall festivals are fun for the whole family, especially children, who can dress up in costumes, enjoy parties and eat their favorite treats.

Check out these tips to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and spooktacular Halloween:
  • Walk on sidewalks or paths where possible;
  • Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers;
  • Carry glow sticks or flashlights to be seen;
  • Use face paint instead of masks to avoid obstructed vision;
  • Choose a costume that properly fits to avoid trips and falls;
  • Trick or Treat during local designated hours; and
  • Eat only factory wrapped treats and avoid consuming homemade treats from strangers.
