Chandler is a beautiful 2-year-old male tabby! He came into the VHS as a young kitten in 2018. Both times he’s been adopted & returned, it has been because he’s TOO affectionate. What?! He’s also kind of dominant with other cats, but if they aren’t pushy, he can coexist quite peacefully with them. Chandler also doesn’t mind calmer dogs. He’s a big cat, and he’s so ready to have a big house he can run around in! Chandler is neutered, vaccinated, and can go home today for $40. UE faces Illinois and Louisville on Sunday

Haley Woolf hit two home runs over the course of Saturday’s doubleheader to lead the University of Evansville softball team to a split.  After rallying for a 7-5 win over Oakland, UE dropped a 9-1 decision to Northwestern at the Red & Black Challenge.

A 4-run sixth inning was the difference for the Purple Aces in the first game of the day versus Oakland.  Trailing the Grizzlies by a 5-3 margin entering the frame, UE rallied for the victory.  Oakland jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second.  After a single run in the first, the Grizzlies plated two more.  UE’s score came on a Haley Woolf home run.

Oakland added two more in the third to extend their advantage to 5-1.  That is when the Evansville rally began.  In the top half of the fourth, Alyssa Barela got it started, drawing a leadoff walk.  Toni Galas entered to pinch run and scored on a Woolf double.  Lindsay Renneisen added the second double of the inning for UE to put runners on second and third with one out.  Making her first start with the Aces, Bella Coffey got the job done, grounding out to short to score Woolf.  It was her first RBI of the season.

Two innings later, the comeback was complete.  Evansville loaded the bases up with one out.  Jenna Lis pinch hit for Coffey and delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run.  Next up was Kat Mueller, who delivered her second home run in as many weekends, bringing home three runs.  Her long ball proved to be the game winner with UE taking the 7-5 decision.

While Mueller got the big hit, Erin Kleffman took care of business in the circle.  Kleffman entered the game in the bottom of the fourth with her team trailing by two.  The freshman threw four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit to secure her first collegiate victory.  Izzy Vetter made the start, giving up five runs in three frames.

Minutes after wrapping up the first game, UE was right back on the field to face Northwestern.  The Wildcats scored one in the first before the Aces countered with a run in the second.  It was Haley Woolf launching her fifth home run of the season to tie the game.

Northwestern countered with a 7-spot in the bottom of the second and cruised to a 9-1 win in five innings.  Jordyn Rudd had three RBI to lead the Wildcats while Rachel Lewis scored twice.  Kenna Wilkey made the start for NU and gave up just one hit, that being Woolf’s homer.  Emily Lockhart started the game, allowing eight runs, six earned, in two innings.  Jaime Nurrenbern threw the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed one run on one hit while fanning three batters.

Two more games remain for UE in Louisville tomorrow.  The day begins with a 1:30 p.m. CT game against Illinois before the Aces face Louisville at 3:45 p.m.

Aces leave 10 on base in loss to Cougars

In the second game of the weekend series, the University of Evansville baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

It was consistent offense in early innings that fueled the Cougars to the win. College of Charleston scored single runs in the first, second, and fourth innings, but only led 3-0.

The Aces generated plenty of opportunities in the contest, but left 10 runners on base in the contest.

One of Evansville’s best chances came in the fifth inning, as Evansville put runners on second and third with two outs. With a pair of runners in scoring position, the Cougars clamped down, retiring back-to-back Evansville batters to end the inning.

Three more runners reached base for the Aces in the sixth inning, including runners on the corners with just one out, but it was again College of Charleston who responded in a timely fashion to end the inning.

Evansville scored its first and only run of the afternoon in the eighth inning as sophomore Indiana Stanley grounded out, which sent junior Robbie Wilkes to third and scored Wilkes after a throwing error.

The Aces had one final chance in the ninth as freshman Brandon Herrin walked with one out. After Herrin was retired on a fielder’s choice, Evansville got a base hit from junior Mason Brinkley that put runners on first and second. With the tying run at the plate, the Cougars closed out the game, forcing a ground ball to end the contest in College of Charleston’s favor.

Evansville concludes the three-game set with the Cougars on Sunday at Noon (CT) in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

University of Southern Indiana Baseball snapped a three-game skid with a 16-11 slugfest victory over the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles return to the .500 mark at 5-5 overall and start conference play 1-0, while Illinois Springfield drops to 8-3 overall, 0-1 in the GLVC.

The Eagles scored 16 times on 16 hits, including a trio of home runs, to win a wild 16-11 contest. The victory also broke USI’s three-game losing streak to Illinois Springfield.

USI sophomore third baseman Lucas McNew led the Eagle hitters with a three-for-five performance with four RBI, three runs scored, a double, and a home run. McNew’s two-run home run in the sixth gave the Eagles a 9-7 lead, while his two-run double in the seventh gave the Eagles the lead for good, 12-10.

McNew was followed by senior catcher Wyatt Daly, who was two-for-five with a run scored and a grand slam that capped off the seven-run seventh and sealed the victory.

The USI offensive explosion was started by senior rightfielder Manny Lopez in the opening frame. Lopez, who was two-for-five with three runs scored and a three-run home run to jump start the Eagles’ hitters.

On the mound, senior right-hander Jordan Menfee picked up his first win in relief. Menfee (1-0) allowed three runs on one hit and a three walks in one inning of work.

Sophomore right-hander Luke Johnston, junior right-hander Brady Bowling, and senior right-hander Jacob Bowles pitched the seventh, eighth, and ninth to close out the game for the Eagles. Johnston allowed one run, while Bowling and Bowles posted scoreless frames to give USI a win to start GLVC action.

Up Next for the Eagles:
Due to length of the opening game, the Eagles and the Prairie Star had to postpone game two to Sunday at 11 a.m. and will be a part of a doubleheader in Springfield.

Following Sunday’s doubleheader, the road trip concludes with a non-conference visit Florida when the Eagles make a stop at University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida, for a two-game series Tuesday and Wednesday. The Eagles trail the all-time series with West Florida, 2-0, after losing both games of a series in 2018 in Pensacola.

The topic for both Flash Panels will be an in-depth critical discussion of UET’s COLUMBINUS. These conversations aim to foster an environment where challenging themes are openly discussed as they relate to our campus community and the broader American milieu.

Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $9 for senior adults, students, and UE faculty and staff. UE students may obtain one free student rush ticket beginning at 12 p.m. on the day of the performance they wish to attend. Seating is limited and tickets are available by calling 812.488.2031.
