“The magnitude of these plants’ savings indicates that manufacturers in the United States have a lot to gain by investing in energy efficiency,†said Anne Idsal, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. “Energy management is a win/win: saving money for manufacturers and protecting our environment.â€
ENERGY STAR plant certification is available for 20 manufacturing sectors. Plants use industry-specific performance indicators to assess how their energy use compares to plants with similar operating characteristics. Plants with verified energy performance within the top 25% of similar plants in an industry are eligible for ENERGY STAR certification. In 2019, EPA updated its Energy Performance Indicators (EPIs) in cement, frozen fried potato, and cookie and cracker manufacturing plants through close work with the industries and as a result of energy efficiency gains across these sectors. It also released EPIs for the nitrogenous fertilizer and fluid dairy manufacturing sectors.
Plants from the automotive, baking, cement, corn refining, food processing, glass manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, fertilizer manufacturing, and petroleum refining sectors are among those that qualified for certification in 2019.

Attorney General Curtis Hill is leading a 16-state coalition supporting the Trump administration’s efforts to update National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations for the first time in 40 years.
For decades, current regulations involving the NEPA have raised the cost of infrastructure projects in Indiana and other states, Attorney General Hill said, and delayed much needed improvements.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana is the fifth busiest freight state for commercial freight traffic, moving 724 million tons of freight each year. It is critical to Indiana’s economy that infrastructure is maintained at a high level.
“These commonsense updates proposed by President Trump would enable projects to move forward more quickly,†Attorney General Hill said. “They would have a positive economic impact and allow states greater authority to govern our own affairs as we collaborate with federal agencies. The proposed updates offer clarity and predictability to the process while at the same time prioritizing the protection of our environment.â€
University of Southern Indiana Baseball completed its five-game road swing with a second-straight loss to the University of West Florida, 9-3, Wednesday afternoon in Pensacola, Florida. The Screaming Eagles go to 6-8 overall, while UWF finishes the afternoon 14-8.
West Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and increased the lead to 4-0 with a tally in the third. USI rallied to cut the deficit to 4-3 on a two-run double by junior designated hitter Aaron Euler in the fourth and a RBI-double by Steven Molinet in the fifth.
The Argonauts sealed the victory by scoring three in the bottom of the fifth and two in the eighth inning to seal USI’s fate, 9-3. Senior right-hander Jacob Bowles took the loss in his first start of the season. Bowles (2-1) allowed six runs on six hits and four hit batters in 4.2 innings of work.
Up Next for the Eagles:
The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of the USI Baseball Field this weekend for a three-game series with Drury University Friday and Sunday. Friday’s doubleheader, which was moved from Saturday due to the rain forecast, has a 2 p.m. first pitch, while Sunday’s single game is slated for noon.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with Drury, 22-10, despite the Panthers taking two-of-three last spring. The three-game slugfest saw Drury take the first two games, 21-13 and 13-6, while USI salvaged the series finale, 11-7.

The NCAA COVID-19 Advisory Panel recognizes the fluidity of COVID-19 and its impact on hosting events in a public space. COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in the United States, and behavioral risk mitigation strategies are the best option for slowing the spread of this disease.
This is especially important because mildly symptomatic individuals can transmit COVID-19. Given these considerations, coupled with a more unfavorable outcome of COVID-19 in older adults – especially those with underlying chronic medical conditions – we recommend against sporting events open to the public. We do believe sports events can take place with only essential personnel and limited family attendance, and this protects the players, employees, and fans.
Last night at approximately 8:34, Trooper Angermeier was patrolling I-69 near the 51 mile-marker in Pike County when he used his radar and clocked a northbound 2014 Jaguar at 116 mph. Trooper Angermeier activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop and continued to travel north at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued north into Daviess County reaching speeds over 150 mph before exiting the interstate to US 150 at Washington. The driver lost control as he was attempting to turn west onto US 150 and collided into a concrete wall. Two males immediately exited the vehicle and ran northwest. After a brief foot chase, Trooper Angermeier apprehended the driver, who was identified as Benjamin Harrison, 24, of Miami, Florida. The other male continued to flee on foot. Additional officers from Indiana State Police, Washington Police and Daviess County Sheriff’s Office arrived and set up a perimeter while Washington Police Sergeant Greg Dietsch and his K-9, Drago, searched the area. Approximately 14 minutes later the passenger, who was identified as Jason Joseph, 23, of Washington, was located laying in a field northwest of I-69 near an exit ramp. Joseph was arrested without further incident. Harrison and Joseph were transported to the Daviess County Jail where they are currently being held on bond.
