Nominate a Hoosier ag leader today, By Wendy McNamara
Do you know a hardworking Hoosier who notably contributes to Indiana’s growing agricultural industry? Nominate them for the AgriVision Award, the highest agricultural honor presented by the state. Nominations will be accepted until July 1.

Since 2007, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture has honored Hoosiers who continue to keep Indiana competitive in food and agricultural innovation and commercialization. The AgriVision Award is open to any Indiana resident and all sectors of the agriculture industry — from bioenergy to livestock to the agbiosciences. Any person or organization can submit a nomination.

Nomination forms are available on the ISDA website and should be emailed to communications@isda.in.gov.

The winner will be recognized at the Celebration of Agriculture at the 2025 Indiana State Fair.

Learn more about the AgriVision Award here or visit ISDA.IN.gov

Do you know someone who is dedicated to making our community a better place to live, work and play? From local law enforcement to teachers and from factory workers to volunteers, I want to recognize those in Posey and Vanderburgh counties who have a servant’s heart with a Spirit of 76 Award.

If you know someone deserving of the Spirit of 76 Award, fill out the nomination form here. Nominees must be residents of House District 76. Click here to verify which district the nominee resides. Recipients will be given an award certificate during a special presentation and highlighted in my email updates to constituents across the district. Questions? Email h76@iga.in.gov or call 317-232-9802.

Participate in the Second Lady’s Summer Reading Challenge

0

by Tim O’Brien

The White House recently announced the Second Lady’s Summer Reading Challenge, encouraging students in K-8th grades to continue learning this summer.

To participate, a student will need to read 12 books between June 1 and Sept. 5, complete the submission form and reading log and share a brief reflection of their favorite book they read. A parent or guardian’s permission is required, and they will need to submit the completed forms to read@mail.whitehouse.gov by the Sept. 5, 2025, deadline.

All participants will receive a personalized certificate from The White House and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to visit the nation’s capital with a chaperone.

Did you know students who read over summer break have higher reading proficiencies? According to The Brookings Institution, students can lose one to two months of reading progress over break if not engaging in educational activities.

This challenge is a great way to promote reading growth and minimize learning loss, with an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. I encourage Hoosier students to participate and have fun reading this summer!

Big inning dooms Otters to even series

0
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A nine-run fourth doomed the Evansville Otters (17-20) as they fell to the Joliet Slammers (20-18) on Saturday night, 11-4.

Newly-signed Garret Simpson started for the Otters, his first professional start. He pitched into the fourth inning and through three innings, he had a shutout and four strikeouts.

Evansville loaded the bases in the third after a couple of hits and a walk before LJ Jones launched a double down the line at 108mph off the bat to jump out ahead 2-0. Another walk to David Mendham loaded the bases again but the runners were stranded.

After allowing a leadoff double, Simpson got his fifth strikeout before Joliet fought back. Joan Gonzalez was called on to finish the fourth, but not before the Slammers scored nine runs.

In the top of the fifth, Pavin Parks hit a one-out single and was followed by a two-run homer from Jones that snuck just inside the foul pole. Jones finished the game with all four of Evansville’s RBIs on the night.

Jolliet added one run in both of the fifth and seventh innings to push their lead to 11-4.

The Otters managed to get a runner on in each of the final three frames, but couldn’t push any more runs across. Evansville’s catcher and former University of Southern Indiana star Logan Brown recorded the 400th hit of his professional career with a sharp single in the eighth inning.

Evansville will go for the series win tomorrow afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. CT scheduled first pitch. They then have an off day Monday before travelling to Gateway to take on the Grizzlies for their midweek series.

In the Word 120, Do Not Be a Fool By Jerome Stewart

Do Not Be a Fool By Jerome Stewart

Romans chapter 1 vs. 16 the Apostle Paul says; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” So today have we become ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ? John chapter 3 vs. 17 Jesus says; “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb for the sins of all mankind.

Today many professed Christians have fallen away from obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ. For those who have fallen away the bible says in Hebrews 10 vss. 26 and 27; “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.” This country used to be referred to as a Christian nation. There has been a turn away from following the wisdom of God. We need to turn back to Him. The Apostle Peter made reference to those who were false teachers. 2nd. Peter chapter 2 vss. 18 thru 22 he says; “For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lust of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. For if, they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” Proverbs 26 vss. 10 and 11 says; “The great God, who formed everything Gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages. As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly.” The question is this: Are you a fool?

22nd Annual Ivy Tech Bike Giveaway

0

Thursday, June 26, 2024
9:30 a.m.-noon

Harrison High School Gymnasium
211 Fielding Rd., Evansville, IN 47715

Background: Each year, donations provide bicycles for students in the EVSC’s Summer Programs, and selected other organizations including Isaiah Project 1:17 – as an incentive to attend the programs, and for good behavior. Thanks to the generosity of donors across the community, this year a total of more than 4,800 bicycles and 37 adaptive bikes have been awarded since the program’s inception 22 years ago.

Several entities, in addition to the donors, come together to make this event happen. EVSC School Board Member and Dean at Ivy Tech Chris Kiefer is the primary individual soliciting and receiving donations for the event, Gerling Law provides helmets, EVSC Foundation provides assistance and funds, and Ivy Tech Foundation provides the bicycle locks, so a child has everything they need to not only ride their bike, but keep safe. EVSC’s Supportive Services provide the manpower to transport the bikes to and from the event.

Contact at the event: Chris Kiefer and/or Dave Schutte.
