Cox Appointed Executive Director Of Indiana Department Of Homeland Security

0

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb today announced he has selected Indiana State Fire Marshal Stephen Cox to serve as the executive director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

“Steve understands the nuts and bolts mission of the Department of Homeland Security. He spent his first 60 days as fire marshal listening and engaging responders across the state, and because of that I’m confident he will be a strong leader for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security as they protect the people, property and prosperity of our state,” Gov. Holcomb said.

Gov. Holcomb appointed Cox in October 2019 as the state fire marshal to lead the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Division of Fire and Building Safety. The division investigates suspicious fires, promotes fire prevention and enforces fire and building safety codes in all public buildings, among other duties.

Prior to serving in state government, Cox was the fire chief in South Bend. He worked for the South Bend Fire Department for 26 years, with 12 years in executive leadership. With the South Bend Fire Department, he served as a paramedic, firefighter, EMS instructor, and EMS chief of the fire department, before being promoted to fire chief in 2012.

As fire chief, Cox created a fire training center which has enabled the department to build a robust training program to support the South Bend department as well as other departments in the state. He also collaborated with the Indiana National Guard to form a Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team, an important asset for Indiana’s disaster preparedness.

Cox served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic overseas in the 101st Airborne. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and has also earned numerous FEMA certifications related to the National Incident Management System.

Cox will begin his new position immediately. An interim state fire marshal will be appointed.

Beth is a female American Staffordshire Terrier (“pit bull”) mix. She was transferred to VHS from Evansville Animal Care & Control in October when they were running out of kennel space. She was a shy girl when she first arrived, likely having not been well-socialized to people. But she is coming out of her shell more now. She regularly takes group walks with other dogs and does fine. Her adoption fee is $110 and includes her spay, microchip, vaccines, and more. HAIRBALL – 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR MARCH 7 – VICTORY THEATRE

0

PRESENTED BY VENUWORKS, MY 105.3 WJLT AND WGBF

TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAY, JANUARY 10 AT 10 AM.

Victory Theatre along with My 105.3 WJLT and WGBF are excited to bring back the bombtastic event that brings the nostalgia of arena rock to Evansville. Hairball is returning with their 20th Anniversary Tour on March 7 to Victory Theatre. Tickets start at $25 and go on sale Friday, January 10 at 10am at Ford Center Ticket Office, Victorytheatre.com and Ticketmaster.com. Limited VIP packages are available and prices increase $5 per ticket day of show.

A band puts on a concert – Hairball puts on an event! Hairball is a Rock & Roll experience you won’t soon forget. The lights, sound, smoke, fire, bombs, and screaming hoards of avid fans…to merely call it a concert would be like calling Mount Rushmore a roadside attraction!

Vocalists Joe, Kris and Bobby lead the band through a 2+ hour, mind-blowing, and drop- dead accurate homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith are but a few of the acts fans will see brought to life. The Hairball stage becomes an entirely new rock concert before your very eyes’ countless times throughout the night.

The motor that drives the Hairball dragster consists of HBK on the electric bass, Billy on the drums, and Happy on the lead guitar. These Rock & Roll soldiers pride themselves on nailing some of the most memorable licks and chops of all time, while adding their own style and flare that they’ve cultivated over decades of tireless performing. This isn’t a side job. These guys eat, sleep and breathe Rock & Roll!

2020 finds Hairball celebrating its 20th year of rocking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Constantly adding more characters, more pyrotechnics, more lights, more sound, more props, more surprises…more everything! While Happy often tells the audience “Today is the first day is the rest of your life!” Hairball performs every show as though it could be their last. Every night is a 100% full-on, no-holds-barred, exciting, chaotic, fiery party that has to be experienced to be believed!

As important to Hairball as the music, are its fans. While many bands claim to have the best fans in the world, Hairball actually has! Whether they are 10 years old or 100, Hairball fans bring an unparalleled enthusiasm and energy to the show that enhances the arena experience. Hairball knows it wouldn’t exist without its fans and takes every opportunity to let them know that. Whether it’s a pre-show meet and greet, hanging out at the merch booth, or chatting online, Hairball has a lot in common with its fans and it’s always a good time when they get together.

Don’t confuse Hairball with the countless “80’s Tribute” bands across the country. Hairball is an experience, an attitude, and expression of music that isn’t simply a retro flashback. It’s a way of life, and it’s not going anywhere soon!

“IS IT TRUE” JANUARY 6, 2020

2

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE we been told that the former two-term Democratic Mayor of Evansville Jonathan Weinzapfel recently met with newly elected City Council member Ron Beane and ask him to vote for him for City Council attorney?  …we are told if he votes for former Mayor Weinzapfel that he will be appointed as the 2020 City Council attorney?  …this is a developing story?
IS IT TRUE if newly elected City Council member Ron Beane votes for Alex Burton for Evansville City Council President he will be the next President of City Council?
IS IT TRUE that many people feel that the 2020 edition of the Evansville City Council will be extremely controversial?  …where is Curt John when we need him?
IS IT TRUE last week we predicted that Jim Wood the former CEO and President of the Greater Louisville Convention And Vistors Bureau will be the choice to become the next President and CEO of the Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau job? …that our “MOLES” were spot on?
IS IT TRUE that the Director of Sales and Director of Marketing of the Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau resigned last week?  …that the new President and CEO of the Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau will have only two (2), full-time staff members, in his employment when he starts working in a couple of weeks? …we are told that this could be an interesting story if only members of the lackadaisical mainstream media would do a little investigative reporting on this subject?
IS IT TRUE there are serious discussions going on between Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau board members about adding a new assistant position working directly under the President and CEO of the Evansville Convention and Vistors Bureau?
IS IT TRUE that the newly appointed President/CEO of the ECVB first order of business is to show supporters of this not-for-profit board that “E Is For Everyone”?  …that the best-known secret in Vanderburgh County is that the ECVB doesn’t have one minority employed within the agency or serving on their Board of Directors?
IS IT TRUE that ECVB President John Chaszar and CEO of Tropicana-Evansville has officially submitted his resignation as a member of the ECVB as of last week?  …we guarantee that Mr. Chaszar will be extremely difficult to replace on this politically appointed board because he possesses outstanding business skills?
IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County Commissioners Cheryl Musgrave (R) and Ben Shoulders (D) are officially running for re-election this year? …that during their past three years of serving together they have accomplished many positive things for the taxpayers of Vanderburgh County?
IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County Commissioners Cheryl Musgrave and Ben Shoulders were responsible for co-sponsoring the anti-discrimination ordinance via the Human Relations Commission in 2017?
IS IT TRUE they County Commissioners Cheryl Musgrave, Ben Shoulders, Bruce Ungethiem (R) and Jeff Hatfield (D) all worked together to approve the largest road repairs and road pavings in county history?
IS IT TRUE that the current Vanderburgh County Commissions recently received a statewide award on behalf of the County naming Vanderburgh County with the 2019 “County Service Award” for their 20-year vision via CIP (Capital Improvement Plan)?
IS IT TRUE  we have been told that that Ed Bassermier will be announcing that he will be running for an At-Large position on the Vanderburgh County Council? …that Mr. Bassermier has served with distinction as a member of the Vanderburgh County Council for many years?
IS IT TRUE that Evansville and Vanderburgh County Indiana has always been accepting of a practice known as “political patronage” when it comes to jobs that are financed fully or partially by public dollars?…it has been so entrenched that a former Evansville Mayor whom we shall not name has been quoted as saying “I get all of the credit and they take all of the blame” to justify appointing his political supporters to jobs under his control?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty
The most recent “Readers Poll” results were most interesting? The poll question was “Who would you vote for in the Indiana Attorney General election.”  The poll generated 504 votes.  Embattled Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill received 198 votes and former two-term Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel received 186 votes. The most interesting aspect of this non-scientific but trendy poll was that 121 of our readers don’t want either to be the next AG of Indiana?
Today’s “Readers Poll” question is: Who would you like to be the next President of the Evansville City Council?
