Spring classes at Ivy Tech begin March 16 and the college is planning an Express Enrollment Day to help both new and continuing students enroll in the classes they need. The event will be Thursday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the main campus, 3501 N. First Avenue.

Aces travel to Chicago to open the season
 With the 2020 softball season just a few days away for the University of Evansville softball team, head coach Mat Mundell previewed the season and his roster, which brings back a wealth of experience despite his team still being pretty young.
“We lost just one starter from last year – Bailee Bostic,†Mundell said. “This year, we return the majority of our experience and are still relatively young with just three seniors. Our lineup has several girls who have played a lot of games for us.â€
Last season, the Aces won 19 games, but with the amount of experience coming back, there is a reason for optimism. Eight position players return who saw action in at least 38 games a season ago with seven of them seeing 42 games of action. Junior Eryn Gould was UE’s top hitter last year, finishing at .306 with team highs in home runs (10), RBI (31), runs (30), hits (41) and walks (35). She earned her second nod on the All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team.
Senior Katie McLean had a strong debut season as a junior in 2019, hitting .305 while accumulating 34 walks and a .454 on-base percentage. Â Allison Daggett and Mea Adams batted .260 and .257, respectively.
On the pitching side, the Aces return starters Emily Lockhart and Izzy Vetter while the team is set to welcome back a healthy Jaime Nurrenbern. The team also added freshman Erin Kleffman from Lockport, Ill.
“It is great to have Emily and Izzy back with Jaime back healthy once again,†Mundell continued. “We also brought in Erin, who has a lot of promise. I feel really good with where we are at.â€
Along with the returning players, the Aces welcome three transfers as well as three freshmen. Alyssa Barela, Kat Mueller and Bella Coffey each join the UE squad as sophomore transfers. Barela comes to Evansville from New Mexico State University while Mueller is a native of Evansville and played her freshman season at USI. Infielder Bella Coffey joins the Aces from Parkland College.
Hannah Hood and Jenna Lis join Erin Kleffman as UE’s freshman class. Hood and Lis each come from Newburgh, Ind. where they played at Castle High School. Hood was an infielder while Lis served as the catcher.
“Our transfers each had really good fall seasons and we look forward to what they bring to our lineup,†Mundell exclaimed. “Our freshmen have also shown a lot of promise.â€
“This is the deepest team that I have coached at UE when you combine the returning players and the newcomers. We have added some very talented pieces to go along with the talent that is already on the roster,†he said. “I feel like we have depth at every spot. Every practice is competitive with our girls competing to earn their spots.â€
The Dome in Rosemont, Ill. will be the host of the opening weekend of action when UE heads to the Total Control Sports Invitational. The Aces open up on Friday at 12:30 p.m. against Miami Ohio. UE also faces Butler, Western Illinois, IUPUI and Green Bay in the tournament.
University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball returns to the road this week to complete its longest road trip of the season when it visits Maryville University Thursday in St. Louis, Missouri, and Missouri University of Science & Technology Saturday in Rolla, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at Maryville and a 3 p.m. tip at Missouri S&T.

USI Men’s Basketball Week 12 Quick Notes:
USI back on track. USI got back on track to start the road trip with an 83-74 victory over Lindenwood University. The Eagles were led by the game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds by junior forward Emmanuel Little.
Eagles 1-1 on first half of road trip. USI is 1-1 in the first half of the four-game road trip (73-68 loss to #15 UMSL; 83-74 win at Lindenwood). Junior forward Emmanuel Little leads the Eagles with 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the first two games, while junior forward Josh Price is second with 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.
Little surpasses 1,000 point plateau. Junior forward Emmanuel Little became the 21st Eagle to surpass the 1,000 point plateau after tying a career-high with 29 points versus Lindenwood. He also became the seventh Eagle in USI history to have a 1,000 or more points and 600 or more rebounds.
USI in the GLVC. The Eagles remain tied for seventh in the GLVC standings after the win at Lindenwood. USI also takes over fourth in the GLVC Point Rating System. The top eight in the point standings qualify for the GLVC Tournament in March.
Tough in the GLVC. USI has found it tough going in the GLVC this season. The Eagles are averaging 81.1 points per game overall in 2019-20, but 74.2 points per GLVC contest. The squad also is shooting 47.8 percent overall and 43.8 percent in league play.
Last time USI played 4 in a row on the road. The last time USI played four-straight on the road was 2014-15 with the Eagles going 2-2 (loss at Drury University; win at Missouri University of Science & Technology; win at Saint Joseph’s College; loss at University of Indianapolis).
Leading the Eagles in 2019-20. Junior forward Emmanuel Little leads four USI players averaging in double-digits with 16.0 points per game with junior forward Josh Price following with 13.3 points per outing. Little also leads the team with 7.8 rebounds, while Price follows with 7.7 per contest. Junior guard Mateo Rivera and senior guard Joe Laravie follow in the scoring with 12.0 and 11.4 points per game, respectively.
USI at Maryville. USI leads the all-time series versus Maryville University, 11-2, after winning on the road in January 2019, 80-75. Senior guard/forward Kobe Caldwell led the Eagles during the win with 22 points.
Maryville in 2019-20. Maryville closes out this week with a visit to Drury University Saturday afternoon. The Saints, currently, are in the cellar of the GLVC standings with a 0-11 GLVC mark, 4-14 overall.
USI at Missouri S&T. USI has a 17-3 all-time series lead over Missouri University of Science & Technology, 7-1 in games in Rolla, Missouri. The Eagles won the only meeting last year, 96-64, at the Physical Activities Center and were led by junior forward Emmanuel Little with a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds, and senior guard/forward Kobe Caldwell with 16 points.
Missouri S&T in 2019-20. Missouri S&T enters the week on a four-game losing streak and a 4-14 overall record, 2-10 GLVC. The Miners host McKendree Thursday before welcoming Eagles.
No. 21 University of Southern Indiana Softball begins the 2020 season Friday at noon (CST) when travels to Harrogate, Tennessee, to take on No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University in a battle between two programs that are ranked inside the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 2019 season that saw them go 35-21 overall and 19-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play en route to their fifth consecutive NCAA II Tournament appearance.
Led by senior hurler Jennifer Leonhardt, the 2019 GLVC Pitcher of the Year, the Eagles are looking to get back to the NCAA II Softball Championship for the third time in the last four years after winning the national title in 2018. Leonhardt, an All-American in each of her first three years in a USI uniform, begins the year as USI’s all-time leader in career wins (76) and strikeouts (711). She went 21-9 in the circle with four saves, 243 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA as a junior in 2019.
Lincoln Memorial also opens its 2020 season after going 38-15 overall and 12-8 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Railsplitters won the NCAA II Southeast Region #2 Tournament before falling to Young Harris College in the Super Regional.

USI Softball Notes
• Eagles open 2020 in NFCA Top 25. USI Softball begins the 2020 season in a tie for No. 21 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Eagles are one of two GLVC teams in the Top 25 and one of three being recognized by the NFCA. Indianapolis is ranked No. 12, while Missouri-St. Louis is receiving votes.
• Tough slate. The Eagles’ schedule, as usual, is littered with quality opponents, including eight games against teams that are either ranked inside the top 20 of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll and another three games against teams that are receiving votes.
• GLVC coaches predict third-place finish for Eagles. USI has been picked to finish third in the GLVC this year according to the league’s preseason coaches’ poll. Indianapolis was picked to win the conference, while defending GLVC champion Missouri-St. Louis was predicted to finish second.
• Eagles looking to continue NCAA run. The Eagles enter 2020 in search of their sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA II Tournament and its seventh in the last eight years. USI won back-to-back NCAA II Midwest Region titles in 2017 and 2018 before capturing the 2018 national championship.
• Leonhardt returns for senior season. Three-time All-American pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt returns for her senior season to lead the Eagles in the circle. Leonhardt enters the 2020 campaign as USI’s all-time leader in career wins (76) and strikeouts (711). She also is tied for first all-time with 33 career complete-game shutouts, ranks fourth in complete games (76) and innings pitched (662.0), and begins the 2020 season ranked sixth in career ERA (1.78). Offensively, Leonhardt is tied for 11th all-time at USI in hit-by-pitches (9) and 12th in triples (5).
• Post-season awards. Leonhardt collected NFCA and D2CCA second-team All-America honors as a junior in 2019, while Claire Johnson earned third-team NFCA All-America honors and honorable-mention D2CCA All-America accolades during her final year with the Eagles. Additionally, Leonhardt was named the USI/ Old National Bank Female Student Athlete of the Year as well as first-team Academic All-America and GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
• Leonhardt named GLVC Pitcher of Year. Leonhardt was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Year for the first time in her career last spring. Leonhardt posted a 19-7 overall record, four saves, a 1.36 ERA, a .189 opponent batting average, 11 complete-game shutouts and 215 strikeouts during the regular-season. She went 10-4 in GLVC-only play with a 0.92 ERA and 128 strikeouts.
• Returning All-GLVC honorees. Leonhardt was a unanimous first-team All-GLVC honoree in 2019, while junior outfielder Alicia Webb was a third-team All-GLVC honoree during her second year in a USI uniform. Graduated seniors Claire Johnson and Caitlyn Bradley also garnered All-League honors. Johnson was a unanimous first-team selection at second base, while Bradley earned third-team honors as a utility-pitcher.
• Senior class. USI’s senior class—Leonhardt, shortstop Taylor Ricketts and outfielder Allison Schubert—has accounted for a 122-58 overall record, 53-27 in GLVC play; and begins the season 39 wins shy of the 2018 class for the most (161) in program history. Last year’s senior class finished with a 157-79 overall record and was 77-36 in GLVC play.
• Schubert looks to get back to 2018 numbers. Schubert hit .274 with seven doubles, five home runs and 21 RBIs as a junior. Not bad numbers, but when the senior is looking to get back to the numbers she put up as a sophomore during USI’s national championship run in 2018 when she hit .340 with 14 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. The 2018 All-Midwest Region honoree became the seventh player in program history to hit 10-or-more home runs in a single season and the fifth player to drive in at least 50 RBIs. She enters the 2020 season tied for ninth all-time at USI in career home runs (18) and 18th in career RBIs (81).
• Ricketts gives Eagles consistent presence. Ricketts has been a staple at shortstop for the Eagles throughout her first three years in a USI uniform. The senior, who hit .262 with six doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs a year ago, has started 119 of USI’s 120 games at shortstop during her career with the Eagles.
• Webb looks to build on strong sophomore showing. Junior outfielder Alicia Webb looks to build upon her breakout season from a year ago. Webb hit .327 with seven doubles, four triples and 21 RBIs as a sophomore in 2019 and hit .345 in GLVC-only games.
• Hitting streaks. Webb brings a two-game hitting streak into the 2020 season, while Leonhardt and Schubert each had a hit in USI’s final game of the 2019 campaign. Leonhardt had a team-best nine-game hitting streak last year, while Johnson and Ricketts each had recorded eight-game hitting streaks last season.
UE takes on SIU in first meeting of the season
 On Wednesday, the University of Evansville men’s basketball team opens its season series against Southern Illinois with a 6 p.m. game inside the Ford Center. The game will be carried on ESPN+ along with the Purple Aces Radio Network.
 Setting the Scene
– The first meeting of the season between the Aces and Salukis sees both teams on opposing streaks – SIU has won five in a row while the Aces have dropped their last 10
– Last season, the Salukis swept the season series and have won four of the last six games against UE; in the home finale last year, SIU grabbed a 98-91 win
– Despite its record, UE continues to progress each game and finished the second half of Saturday’s game versus UNI with 52 points, its second-highest scoring half of the season
– Evan Kuhlman has evolved over the last two games, tying his career mark with 14 points against the Panthers; he has hit 8 of his last 14 attempts
– Following Wednesday’s game, the Aces will have just three more home games on the schedule
Last Time Out
– It was a tale of two halves on Saturday when the Aces took on the Panthers – UE had its lowest scoring half with 16 to begin the game, but rebounded with its second-highest tally of 52 points in the second half as UNI earned an 80-68 win
– Three UE players had 14 points with Sam Cunliffe, Evan Kuhlman and K.J. Riley tying for the team scoring high
– Kuhlman’s effort tied his career high – he connected on five out of seven attempts
– Evansville trailed by as many as 16 in the opening moments of the second half, but clawed their way back within four tallies before UNI was able to pull away in the final minutes
– The first nine Evansville shots in the second half found the bottom of the net with UE shooting 69.2% (18/26) in the final stanza
Showing his Accuracy
– John Hall is starting to find a nice rhythm for Evansville, recording at least six points in the last five games averaging 8.2 points
– His rebounding has also improved. In his last nine outings, Hall has recorded an average of 4.1 per game with his season mark of seven caroms coming versus Drake
– Hall is shooting 50% overall (12/24) in the last three contests but has hit 15 of last 22 shots inside the arc in the last five outings
– Over the first seven MVC games this season, Hall averaged 4.4 points per game while shooting 23.6% from the field; the last three games have seen those numbers jump to 10.0 points and 50% shooting
Back in Action
– Junior Evan Kuhlman had an excellent week for the Aces, culminating in a 14-point game against UNI, tying his career scoring mark
– Making the start in both games, Kuhlman knocked down eight of his 14 field goal tries while playing 24.5 minutes per game
– He was 3-for-7 at Illinois State while posting four assists and two blocks while his 14-point game against the Panthers saw him hit five out of seven attempts while going 3-3 from the free throw line to go with a pair of steals
Scouting the Opponent
– Winners of their last five games, Southern Illinois enters Wednesday’s game with a 13-10 record and are 7-3 in conference games
– The Salukis picked up a 79-72 win at Drake on Saturday to sweep the season series and own victories over UNI and Loyola
– Marcus Domask leads the way for SIU with 15.0 points per game; he is a 50.9% shooter and has one of the top outside shooting tallies on the squad – hitting 42.6% of his outside tries (46/108)
– Eric McGill checks in with 11.5 points while Barret Benson has averaged 10.1 points
– Benson, a graduate transfer from Northwestern, leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest
Attorney General Curtis Hill, co-chair of the Indiana Executive Cybersecurity Council’s Legal and Insurance Working Group, today warned Hoosiers and especially business-owners to take proactive measures to protect online security. Cyberattacks, he said, are near an all-time high.
“These malicious efforts are coming in the form of phishing attempts, malware attacks and ransomware demands,†Attorney General Hill said. “They are a concern for both the public and private sectors. My office takes very seriously the security of all Hoosiers and the companies where they work. We will continue to do everything possible to ensure the online safety of Indiana residents.â€
To that end, Attorney General Hill urged Hoosier businesses to complete a cyber risk planning survey. While many businesses will receive mailings, anyone may find the survey online. The survey should take no more than 25 minutes and will help the Indiana Executive Cybersecurity Council better understand the cybersecurity threats Indiana is facing.
Several high-profile data breaches in recent years — involving such large companies as Equifax, Neiman Marcus and Premera — have served as stark reminders of dangers lurking online. Data breaches sometimes destroy companies’ ability to even stay in business.
“Our goal is to identify barriers that prevent effective cyber-risk planning,†Attorney General Hill said. “Further, we want to encourage Hoosiers to be proactive when it comes to cybersecurity rather than simply reacting to issues once they arise.â€
That starts with assessing measures already in place to protect cybersecurity and making improvements if such measures are found to be deficient.
The Indiana Executive Cybersecurity Council is working in collaboration with researchers at Indiana University and the University of Arizona to explore how Indiana organizations perceive and manage cyber risks. To participate in the online survey, go to https://www.go.iu.edu/cybersurvey.
