“Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” APRIL 11, 2020

“Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” was created because we have a couple of commenters that post on a daily basis either in our “IS IT TRUE” or “Readers Forum” columns concerning National or International issues.
The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.

“IS IT TRUE” APRIL 10, 2020

1

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE during the last several weeks our server crashed four times and it took many hours to correct the problem?  …that increase readership sometimes causes a down-home on-line community newspaper problems?

IS IT TRUE for the last six months we have been approached by several individuals to do a printed edition of a Sunday paper? …when the City-County Observer first started publishing many years ago we produced a printed edition once a week for a couple of years and always made an honorable profit? …later on, we decided to publish daily online because it made better economic sense? …we were ready to announce that the City-County Observer will publish an in-print Sunday newspaper?  …once the COVID-19 virus hit it put our decision in limbo?
IS IT TRUE last year the shareholders of Gannett and Gateway approved a merger between the two companies? …this merger created the largest ownership of newspapers in the United States? … a short term debt instrument of $1.8 billion at an interest rate of 11.5% sealed this deal? …since that time another deal was struck and the above newspapers group was sold to another publishing conglomerate? …the COVID-19 pandemic has caused financial chaos throughout America and analysts are now worried if this new newspaper conglomerate will survive?  …when one invests in a multi-million capital project they should obtain low-interest long term financing for their project? …we hope that they will?  …having a printed newspaper is a sense of community pride?
IS IT TRUE according to the Indiana Gov. website Vanderburgh County have given 233 COVID-19 and 53 have tested positive?  …that Warrick County has given 66 and 33 have tested positive?  …that Posey County has given 13 tests and 8 tested positive for the COVID-19 virus?  …that 35,0490 COVID-19 tests were given Statewide and 6,907 tested positive for the COVID virus?  …so far 300 people have died from this deadly virus Statewide?
IS IT TRUE we give five (5) cheers to the news professionals at Channel 14 TV?  …yesterday they produced an extremely accurate and informative program entitled “A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION” about the  COVID-19 virus?
IS IT TRUE that the Coranvius doesn’t discriminate against natural origin, race, color, creed, educational background, gender, blue or white-collar workers, religion, political affiliation, age, sexual preference, rich or poor, type of neighborhood you live in, or mental or physical challenges?
IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County Commissioner Benjamin Shoulders continues to volunteer his time and money by providing a “Taco” food truck to serve food to First Responders, Highway Department employees, 2nd and 4th political ward residents?  …this is the type of servant leadership we enjoy writing about?
IS IT TRUE last year we reported that it will cost $100 per person for the next 15 to 20 years to build a much-needed addition to the Vanderburgh County jail?… to achieve this goal the citizens of Vanderburgh County must be willing to allow the County officials to take this amount from their payroll taxes for the next 15 to 20 years? …because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like this project is currently dead in the water?
IS IT TRUE that the newly elected Democratic Governor of Kentucky promised during his campaign if elected he would support changes the Kentucky gaming laws so it allows race track to offer poker, roulette and cards, and slots? …we are told that he intends to keep his political promise? …we respectfully suggest that the Indiana State officials better start amending Indiana State laws so it will allow Indiana Casinos Sportsbook to offer horse racing simulcast betting?  …if they don’t the Kentucky gaming establishments are going to eat the Indiana Casinos lunch?
IS IT TRUE we are told by extremely reliable sources that former Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel bid to unseat the embattled Indiana Republican Attorney General, Curtis Hill is getting political traction? …we predict Mr. Weinzapfel will handily win the Democratic primary?…we also predict that the General election race between AD Hill and former Evansville Weinzapef shall turn into a real political dog fight?
IS IT TRUE during a recent City Council meeting there seems to be a sense of urgency regarding an extraordinary financial arrangement to fund area not-for-profits?  …it’s obvious that members of the Evansville City Council should have taken some extra time to perform their due diligence concerning this request?
IS IT TRUE its a known fact that elected officials in the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County understand the “Sunshine Laws” of Indiana?…keeping public information from a member of the public is illegal?

IS IT TRUE we been told that many employees of the EVSC are finally getting tired of the practices of political patronage, nepotism and pork-barrel politics within the school system?

IS IT TRUE that our current “CCO MOLE” membership is now a 152 strong?  …our “Working Outside The Box” speakers series have picked up 19 new “CCO MOLES”? …  that seven (7) “CCO MOLES” passed away during the last several years and we really miss them?

IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty?
IS IT TRUE our “READERS POLLS” are non-scientific but trendy?
Today’s “Readers Poll” question is: Which Governor has been the most effective in preparing us for the COVID-19 so far?
Please take time and read our articles entitled “STATEHOUSE FILES, LAW ENFORCEMENT, “READERS POLL”, BIRTHDAYS, HOT JOBS”, EDUCATION, OBITUARIES and “LOCAL SPORTS”.

Governor Holcomb Issues Guidance for Places of Worship

1

Governor Eric J. Holcomb and State Health Commissioner Kris Box, M.D., FACOG, today issued guidance for places of worship in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“During this time of uncertainty, faith is more important than ever, and I am deeply grateful to our religious leaders for their efforts to find safe and creative ways to serve their communities,” Gov. Holcomb said. “The purpose of this guidance is not to restrict religious liberty, but to save lives during these extraordinary times. I look forward to the day where we can once again worship side-by-side without the threat of spreading coronavirus.”

Gov. Holcomb’s executive order 20-18 states all public and private gatherings, including religious and spiritual, should follow CDC guidance, which restricts gatherings to ten or less people. Click here to see executive orders: https://www.in.gov/gov/2384.htm

To continue safely serving their communities, faith institutions are directed as follows:

  • Church buildings and other physical locations for worship should be closed.
  • Livestream or other virtual services are best.
    • The minimum number of necessary personnel should be used at all times for any services.
    • Staff and volunteers who are not speaking should wear masks.
  • Drive-in services may be conducted only under these conditions:
    • Attendees must be inside vehicles at all times.
    • Attendees should not interact physically with clergy, staff or participants in other vehicles.
    • Vehicles should contain only members of a single household. Do not bring your neighbors or others outside of your household.
    • Cars must be spaced the equivalent of every other parking spot or approximately 9 feet apart.
    • No one may exit a vehicle at any time.
    • Portable bathrooms are not allowed on the premises and no church facilities may be used by attendees.
    • It is preferred that no communion be distributed.
      • In instances when communion is distributed, only prepackaged communion may be used and must be prepared and distributed in a manner that meets food safety standards.
    • The following individuals who are vulnerable and at higher risk for illness should not attend:
      • Persons who are 65 years and older.
      • Those who have severe underlying medical conditions, like heart or lung disease or diabetes.
      • Individuals who are sick.
  • The CDC has provided the following guidance for the faith community: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/organizations/guidance-community-faith-organizations.html
