Right Jab And Middle Jab And Left Jab” July 01, 2020

The majority of our “IS IT TRUE” columns are about local or state issues, so we have decided to give our more opinionated readers exclusive access to our newly created “LEFT JAB and Middle Jab and RIGHT JAB”  column. They now have this post to exclusively discuss national or world issues that they feel passionate about.
We shall be posting the “LEFT JAB” AND “MIDDLE JAB” AND “RIGHT JAB” several times a week.  Oh, “LEFT JAB” is a liberal view, “MIDDLE JAB” is the libertarian view and the “RIGHT JAB is representative of the more conservative views. Also, any reader who would like to react to the written comments in this column is free to do so.

UE Swimming and Diving Teams garner team scholar honors

The men’s and women’s teams each picked up the recognition

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected the University of Evansville men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams for Scholar All-American honors. Evansville was one of 461 schools to receive the award for the Spring semester.  Teams were selected on the basis of their Spring grade point averages and represent 17,982 student-athletes.

“Both Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams have done a tremendous job this past year,” Purple Aces head coach Stu Wilson said.  “After what we went through this spring, they still kept their focus in achieving their goals in the classroom.  I am very proud of this group. They were able to adjust to the changes this spring with determination.”

Additional institutional adjustments to grading systems resulted in GPAs nearly one-quarter letter grade higher than previously. As a result, the CSCAA will not be publishing team GPAs.  This Semester’s list also does not include teams at institutions that switched entirely to pass/fail grading.

CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart noted the work of Coach Wilson and his student-athletes.

“No team was unaffected by this Spring’s pandemic but Athletic Director Mark Spencer and President (Christopher M.) Pietruszkiewicz can and should be proud of their team and the work of Stuart.”

Gov. Holcomb Signs Executive Order to Prevent Evictions, Foreclosures, Utility Disconnections

0

INDIANAPOLIS — Governor Eric J. Holcomb today signed Executive Order 20-33 to extend the prohibition on evictions, foreclosures, and the disconnection of utility services.

The prohibition on evictions from rental properties and the prohibition on filing foreclosures are both extended through July 31. Renters, homeowners, lending institutions and landlords are encouraged to establish payment plans to avoid later evictions or foreclosures.

Hoosiers struggling to pay rent due to the impact of COVID-19 may be eligible for rental assistance. Applications for the $25 million Indiana COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program will be accepted online beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Monday, July 13 at IndianaHousingNow.org.

Utilities regulated by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission must follow the order issued Monday by the commission prohibiting service disconnections through Aug. 14. Under Executive Order 20-33, non-regulated utility companies must also extend service until Aug. 14. Customers and utility companies are encouraged to establish payment plans now to avoid later discontinuations of service.

The executive order also extends the temporary licensing of the following health care workers who do not currently hold an active license to practice for an additional 30 days:

  • medical professionals who retired or became inactive in the last five years
  • medical professionals who hold licenses in other states
  • certain medical students and graduates

These professionals must register with the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency via their website at www.in.gov/pla. These professionals will be able to assist in screenings, telemedicine and other basic procedures to allow regularly licensed medical professionals to be on the frontline.

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way.
City-County Observer Comment Policy: Be kind to people. No personal attacks or harassment will be tolerated and will be removed from our site.”
We understand that sometimes people don’t always agree and discussions may become a little heated.  The use of offensive language and/or insults against commenters will not be tolerated and will be removed from our site.
IS IT TRUE that it’s our understanding that the interest rate for the temporary loan is around 1.5%?  …We have been told if members of the EVSC school board sign this temporary loan agreement it could obligate them to pay up to a 4.5% percent interest penalty if they don’t meet the original terms of the loan contract?
IS IT TRUE we wonder what is the total amount of money does the EVSC school board needs to borrow in order to cover current operations costs for this year?  …reliable sources tell us that the loan amount could be many million dollars?
IS IT TRUE it’s been alleged by a reliable source that the members of the EVSC school board have been passing a temporary loan resolution since 2018?  … that high school accounting instructors teach their students when you have to borrow millions of dollars to cover current operating costs for three years in a row you have major money management and cash flow challenges?
IS IT TRUE the Vanderburgh County Commissioners recently voted to continue to proceed with BroadBand in the county?… if this comes to fruition, Vanderburgh County would have aLL rural areas with high-speed internet capabilities?
IS IT TRUE we are please in the way that the good folks at local TV Channel 14 are providing the masses with up-to-date local news, weather, and sports?  …we are so impressed by the way they are providing current and accurate news that we have included Channel 14 TV in our 2021 advertising budget?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny!  When the Government fears the people we have Liberty!
Todays ‘Readers Poll” question is: Do you agree with the way that Mayor Winnecke is handling the COVID-19 virus dilemma?

(June 30, 2020) — The “Reopen Evansville Task Force” announced the addition of a new COVID-19 testing site to be located in downtown Evansville.

Through collaboration between Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, the Vanderburgh County Health Department and the Indiana State Department of Health, a new testing site administered by OptumServe will be located at CK Newsome Center for those that live and work in the Evansville region.

The new testing site will begin operations Monday, July 6 at the C.K. Newsome Community Center (Directions). It will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“This site will provide another option for our residents to have access to free testing, regardless of symptoms or exposure,” said Mayor Lloyd Winnecke.

Registration is required. Those needing a test can register at lhi.care/covidtesting or call 888-634-1116.

The testing is free to all and no medical insurance is necessary. However, residents with existing insurance are asked to provide that information during the scheduling process.

“This partnership will allow our community to increase testing capacity without depleting local health resources,” said Deputy Mayor, Steve Schaefer, who also serves as Chair of the Reopen Evansville Task Force.

In addition to local hospital testing, ISDH testing is available at:

  • CVS Pharmacy on Saint Joseph Avenue
  • Deaconess Clinic Lynch
