LWA Unemployment Benefits To Be Paid Beginning Week Of Sept. 21

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 11, 2020)  – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) will begin making Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) payments to eligible claimants beginning the week of Monday, Sept. 21.

LWA is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide $300 per week to supplement unemployment benefits for those who have an unemployment benefit amount of at least $100 and are out of work due to COVID-19.

LWA funding will only cover the six-week period from the week ending Aug. 1 to the week ending Sept. 5. No LWA funding will be available to states beyond that time period.

Indiana will make payments the week of Sept. 21, covering the period of Aug. 1 to Sept. 5, for those eligible. For those claimants with issues holding payment, DWD will make payments, pending funding availability, once eligibility is established.

Since March 8, DWD has paid a total of $4.9 billion to nearly 670,000 Hoosiers.

Cops, Firefighters, Non-Profit Rush To Save Annual 9/11 Tribute In Light After Cancellation By Memorial Museum

Let there be light.

The city’s first responders are teaming up with a non-profit foundation to rescue New York’s annual 9/11 Tribute in Light, which is facing down a coronavirus cancellation.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is planning this year’s event, in which twin beams of light shine into the nighttime sky in memory of more than 2,600 people killed in the Sept. 11 attacks in New York.

“Because Tunnel to Towers is fully committed to the idea that we must never forget, the Foundation is doing everything in its power to make sure that the Towers of Light will once again be illuminated,” the Foundation said in a statement.

Frank Siller, the president of the Tunnel to Towers foundation, explained in an interview on WCBS/880 radio.

“We have already secured the lights, and by Monday or Tuesday we will have finished securing the location, which is right down by Ground Zero,” he said.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum, which has run the event in the past, pulled out on Thursday, citing the coronavirus pandemic.

Port Authority cops on Friday began pushing to move the spotlights to Port Authority property at the World Trade Center — and they got support from their colleagues in the city police and fire departments.

The lights — visible for miles around — pose no risk of violating social distancing rules, said Paul Nunziato, president of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association.

“This COVID is the most demoralizing thing we’ve seen in a long time,” said Nunziato. “Not having the lights will double that effect. 9/11 is a solemn day for us. Why turn out the lights from the sky?”

The twin lights — which commemorate the twin towers of the World Trade Center complex destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 — are usually placed atop the Battery Parking Garage on Morris St. from dusk Sept. 11 to dawn on Sept. 12.

Moving the lights to Port Authority property nearby would not take money out of the Port Authority’s pocket, Nunziato said.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation commemorates firefighter Stephen Siller, who carried 60 pounds of gear through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. He died in the towers’ collapse.

Nunziato said Mayor de Blasio should have pushed the 9/11 Memorial to hold the light display as usual this year. “For all the nonsense the mayor has allowed in recent months, what is the problem with putting the lights up?” he said.

A spokesman for de Blasio said the mayor respected the decision of the 9/11 Memorial’s decision — which is not under city control.

Staten Island Councilman Joe Borelli slammed the cancellation decision in a tweet and said he is coordinating with the head of the New York City Central Labor Council to find New Yorkers ready and willing to work on moving the tribute.

“There are men and women who would be honored to do the work of presenting the Tribute in Lights at the World Trade Center,” he said.

Meet Eli Youngblood An Exceptional Athlete And Talented Song Writer

0
It takes an exceptional athlete with a unique level of dedication and a strong work ethic to be a successful two or three-sport athlete in high school. When it comes to 15-year-old Eli Youngblood, not only is he a starting mid-fielder for the Division 3A #10 ranked Castle Knights with 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 games, he also is a hip hop recording artist who has released his second single “Tough Love” on all streaming outlets.
At a young age, he learned that if he wanted to be good, or better yet, great at anything, that meant that he would have to dedicate many hours, hours that many other boys his age spend playing video games, watching Netflix or Hulu, or else spend on Social Media. To date, he has written over 320 songs already before the age of 16, many of which have gotten hundreds, if not thousands of views on Instagram and YouTube. His first single “Memory Lane” which was released on January 1, 2020, has garnered somewhere between 3,500-5,000 downloads and streams with no marketing and promotion except to friends and family.
The new single is different, however. “Tough Love” was produced by Billboard 2019 Top Christian Producer Riley Friesen who is also in Club Danger with over 4,000,000 on Spotify (Skillet, Mandisa, Brandon Heath, Building 429, etc.) and mastered by Grammy winner Nathan Dantzler (Toby Mac, Britt Nicole, Vince Gill, etc.), and with the help of former frontman of Family Force Five and current member of Club Danger, Derek Mount, being promoted to 70+ Spotify playlists. It’s a song about wanting an actual long-lasting connection with someone rather than the immature or quick relationships that often happen today. It talks about the price to pay for real love and the risks, insecurities, and failures you’ll have to conquer along the way.
Eli dreams of going to Belmont University, playing Division 1 soccer for them while studying the music industry. Currently, music is a difficult industry to be successful at, especially with the rise of streaming. It can also be an exciting time, especially since he can sit in his room, write and record a song, upload it, and get it in front of hundreds, thousands, maybe one day millions of people. Who knows if that will happen. But he loves what he is doing and is learning what it means to dream big and work hard.
Check him out on Instagram at @theliyoungblood, and if you like his music follow him on Instagram and Spotify or any other streaming platform.
