Evansville City Council to Vote on $494 Million Spending Plan
Evansville City Council to Vote on $494 Million Spending Plan
Tonight, the Evansville City Council will discuss and possibly approve Mayor Stephanie Terry’s 2025 budget. The budget has grown by over $15 million from the spending plan for 2024 and will impact every city service.
The City Council will still look at making changes to the spending plan. For example, Missy Mosby plans to provide more funding available to the City Animal Control Center with an amendment that will stop the city from creating a new position for a person to be dedicated to assisting the City Council members and move the funds to pay the salary to the budget for Animal Control. Councilwoman Mosby hopes city residents will speak up at the meeting to convince the rest of the council to fund improvements at the center. The budget, as submitted, provides $1.1 million to fund Animal Control.
Here are the five city departments with the most significant budgets:
- Evansville Water and Sewer Utility $266 million
- Evansville Police $49. Million
- Evansville Fire Department $42 million
- Department of Metropolitan Development $25 million
- Parks and Recreation $17 million

Jill Hahn Shares Why She’s Running for County Council At-Large
Jill Hahn Shares Why She’s Running for County Council At-Large
When Jill Hahn is asked about her community, she’ll always have something positive to say. “Vanderburgh County has been a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I am proud to call Evansville my home,” said Hahn, the current Vanderburgh County Council president. “The proof is right here: I’ve worked hard to improve our community and our quality of life.” That’s why she’s asking to be re-elected for County Council At-Large this November.
Hahn has earned endorsements from the Fraternal Order of Police, Senator Mike Braun, Representative Larry Buschon, and SIBC Build, as well as financially endorsed by Teamsters Local 215, Local 181 Operating Engineers, and Local 561 Laborer.
Jill Anne Hahn has a degree in Pubic and Environmental Affairs Management from Indiana University, a Master’s in Secondary Education, and an Administrative license from Indiana State University.
As a teacher for 32 years, she taught at Glenwood Middle School, Central High School and Harrison High School, where she taught government, economics, international relations, along with Constitutional law. Including teaching as an adjunct professor through USI teaching government and economics.
As County Council president, Hahn helped make Vanderburgh County the only county in the USA to have 100 percent internet access, appropriated funding for a new jail, including a mental health wing, helped acquire over $65 million for the non-profits such as the Children’s Museum, and secured $6 million to restore the Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum, which will be used for a variety of events.
“A vote for Jill Hahn, County Council At-Large, is a vote for you,” Senator Braun said. “That’s why you should vote Jill Hahn for Vanderburgh County Council At-Large this November.”
Named one of USI’s Most Phenomenal Women in 2022, Hahn also won an enthusiastic endorsement from the U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon.
Jill Anne Hahn has worked hard to increase funding for the sheriff deputies, prosecutors, and has led the way to creating a financially conservative budget for our county. She is active on the Metropolitan Planning Commission, the convention and visitors bureau known as Evansville Events, and the airport authority board, which increased daily flights to Chicago. She has sat on the Evansville Museum board, Vanderburgh 4-H committee and several community groups within Evansville.
“Vanderburgh County is truly on the move,” Hahn said. “There are so many exciting events right here that most citizens don’t know about. I’m here to promote our great county within its borders, the state and the nation so you can have the tomorrow you want and need.”
Likewise, Representative Bucshon noted that citizens can thank Hahn for new pickleball courts and two ADA-compliant playgrounds in Burdette Park. She also works to improve economic development in 15 counties for the state’s Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) where she is the SW Community liaison.
Currently she is working with the Jacobsville director Ted O’Connel and City Councilman Alex Burton to make Jacobsville into an ODAN main street, bringing economic development, housing, and businesses into this area for revitalization.
On a personal level, Hahn has been married to John Hahn for more than 30 years. They have two sons, Camden and Caiden, who attended Reitz High School and USI. Her son’s work along with her husband in the 3rd generational family business Jack Hahn Excavating, Inc. Jill is also corresponding secretary for Reitz High School’s Big Blue Boosters and on the Board of Citizens for Liberty and will be President of the Veteran’s Coliseum Preservation Foundation.
“I stand for open communication, so help me spread the message of a great tomorrow for our community at jillannehahn.com.” Hahn said. “I’d be grateful for your vote for County Council At-Large this November.” Jill Anne Hahn is proven to work hard for you.” She is accomplished, community-oriented, has deep roots and is committed to being financially responsible and morally strong.
