Since 2021, Attorney General Todd Rokita’s Litigation Division has saved more than $145 million in estimated taxpayer dollars through successful advocacy on behalf of the state. According to Attorney General Rokita, the division has managed 13,782 cases, successfully closing 13,480 of them, while achieving favorable outcomes in 40 out of 43 civil defense jury trials—a remarkable 93% success rate—and recovering over $74.5 million for the state. |

Background: Ivy Tech Community College Evansville and DriveCo, Ivy Tech’s CDL partner, will offer an opportunity for individuals to come learn more about the field of over the road truck driving for this month’s Spotlight for Tuesdays@theTech. The Touch a Truck event will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the north parking lot on the Ivy Tech main campus in Evansville, 3501 N. First Avenue. It is free and open to the public. Lunch will be available to purchase from Crazy Daisy’s in the Commons at Ivy Tech. The event will be family friendly and is targeted for those who are seeking new job opportunities or changing careers, veterans, high school graduates and their families, as well as anyone in the community interested in the trucking industry. Individuals will be able to get into a semi cab, talk with instructors, find out about career opportunities, and learn about the many different funding opportunities to help pay some or all of the cost of tuition for Ivy Tech’s CDL Program. On-the-spot applications for the program will also be available.

Exhibit celebrates anniversaries of New Harmony Gallery and collaboration with USI
The USI New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art (NHGCA) commemorates 50 years of exhibitions while honoring 40 years with the University of Southern Indiana in a milestone exhibition titled, Look Both Ways: 50 Years at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art.
The exhibit opens to the public with a reception from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, September 6 including curator presentations and refreshments for gallery visitors. The exhibit, on view from Saturday, September 6 to Sunday, November 9, features artists from across the region and the United States.

USI’s Strezewski to present at Archaeology Month celebration at Dubois County Museum
Dr. Michael Strezewski, USI Professor of Anthropology, will give a presentation on archaeological Hoosier history titled The Dry Goods Store: A Bit of Civilization on Indiana’s Frontier at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13 at the Dubois County Museum as part of an educational event celebrating Archaeology Month.

INDIANAPOLIS, August 25, 2025 – Vincennes University is collaborating with Marian University as an educational partner in the Riverside Education Innovation District (REID) initiative in the Near Northwest Area (NNW) of Indianapolis. As part of a major effort to expand educational access in the area, the initiative will repurpose the historic and former Larue Carter campus into a hub for lifelong learning that supports literacy, early childhood education, and workforce development.
VU’s role includes creating a career and technical education (CTE) center for high school students. The center expects to offer more than 10 essential CTE opportunities to enhance educational and economic outcomes in one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of Indianapolis.
VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson said, “Vincennes University is honored to partner with Marian University, local schools, workforce development organizations, and industry leaders to be part of a bold and transformative initiative that will empower students and communities in the Near Northwest Indianapolis area. Partnerships such as this are vital for building our state’s bright economic future and creating opportunities for Hoosiers of all generations. With this exciting opportunity, Vincennes University aims to work alongside President Elsener and Marian University to help build an even stronger future for Near Northwest Indianapolis and the entire region.”
The partnership between higher education institutions exemplifies a powerful commitment to community enhancement through education.

VU anticipates that high schools in Indianapolis will send hundreds of students to its CTE center, which aligns with new Indiana high school diploma requirements. Students will gain crucial skills needed to be career-ready for today’s job market, with dual credit and training available in demand fields such as automotive technology and repair, welding, advanced manufacturing, precision machining, cybersecurity, and law enforcement.
VU Associate Provost of K-12 Programs and Partnerships Dr. Lori Pence said, “By focusing on high-demand fields, we are dedicated to equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to make impactful contributions in their chosen professions. We commit to delivering an innovative blend of comprehensive training, immersive hands-on experiences, and access to cutting-edge industry insights. Our goal is to empower students to excel in their educational and career aspirations and emerge as leaders in their community and region.”
Broadening partnerships with existing educational partners to offer dual credit in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical is also part of VU’s plans to support the REID initiative’s goals of increasing lifetime educational attainment in the area. In addition, the University envisions utilizing its facilities for adult education programs outside of traditional school hours and for apprenticeship programs with major companies in the Indianapolis area.
Marian held a construction kick-off event at the former hospital campus in July.
VU will occupy two dedicated buildings on the Cold Spring Road property, marking the University’s first major site near downtown Indianapolis. It aims to begin CTE training and education programming by the fall of 2027.
The VU-Marian collaboration represents an innovative initiative to provide students and communities in the Near Northwest Area with accessible educational resources that promote career readiness, economic development, and life-changing opportunities.

Around 3:30 a.m. on August 24, officers were dispatched to a general complaint of individuals blocking vehicles near the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Gum Street. Shortly after the initial call, additional information was received indicating that a firearm had been discharged. Upon arrival, officers located a spent shell casing, a weapon-mounted flashlight, and a significant amount of blood at the scene. Through statements gathered from witnesses and victims, it was determined that an altercation initially occurred at a separate location between the victim and the offender, Jeron T. Sebree (29). Sebree was told to leave the establishment. Shortly after, the confrontation continued at a secondary location near Kentucky Avenue and Gum Street. There, the same victim became involved in a second altercation, this time with a second offender.
During the second altercation, Sebree intervened, striking the victim multiple times with a handgun. At one point, he ‘cocked’ the weapon. While hitting the victim, the handgun discharged, grazing her in multiple areas. Two additional victims were also grazed by the discharged round, or shrapnel. Despite the firearm discharging, both Sebree and the second offender continued to physically assault the victim. In total, five individuals were identified as victims in the incident, three of whom sustained grazing injuries from the discharged round. Sebree’s actions resulted in injury that posed a substantial risk of death and showed reckless, knowing, and intentional disregard for the safety of others nearby.
Later that same night, during third-shift hours, officers located Sebree’s vehicle parked in a driveway. Upon contact, Sebree surrendered without incident and was transported to EPD headquarters, where he was interviewed by a detective. Following the interview, Sebree was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and arrested on charges of aggravated battery (Level 5 felony) and criminal recklessness
(Level 5 felony). This incident is still under investigation and additional arrests may be forthcoming.
MACON, Ga. – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team earned their second draw of the season, playing the Mercer Bears to a 1-1 final on Sunday afternoon.
For the second game in a row, Evansville fell behind early, as Mercer’s Liam Corr found the back of the net in the 10th minute of action to give the Bears the lead.
Evansville was quick to equalize, however. Taking control of the ball near midfield, Nacho Garcia (Zaragoza, Spain/UNIR) sent a ball down towards the box, where freshman Devin Shepherd (Denver, Colo./Arapahoe) controlled the ball off a Mercer header and chipped a shot over the head of the Mercer keeper to tie the score at one. The goal, coming in 23rd minute, was the first of Shepherd’s collegiate career.
The score would remain tied at one going into the half, but the second half saw the Aces take control. Evansville dominated possession throughout the second 45, creating numerous chances, but could not break through to find the winner as the afternoon ended in a 1-1 draw.
“This is a tough place to play,” said UE head coach Robbe Tarver. “Mercer has had a lot of consistently good years and play a tough style.”
“To concede early again and respond to get back into the game, I thought we managed moments well. We just couldn’t find the winner.”
“The energy, the effort, those intangibles – I thought we really owned those moments today. That will really set the foundation for our team this year.”
Evansville out-shot Mercer 10-8 overall, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Tancredi Fadda (Milan, Italy/University of Milan) and Nacho Diaz-Caneja (Coruna, Spain) led the way in shots with two, with each putting one on goal. Michal Mroz (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) made one save in goal for the Aces.
With the draw, Evansville moves at 0-0-2 on the year. The Aces will return to the pitch on Thursday for a showdown at perennial powerhouse North Carolina. Kick-off is set for 6:30 PM CT from Chapel Hill.
