Senator Braun Reintroduce Constitutional Amendment Imposing Congressional Term Limits

Senator Braun Reintroduce Constitutional Amendment Imposing Congressional Term Limits

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Braun has joined U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) with Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.), to reintroduce an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would impose term limits on Members of Congress.

U.S. Senators would be limited to two six-year terms and members of the House of Representatives to three two year terms.

“If there is one change that would immediately make Washington work more for Americans and less for the swamp, it’s term limits. I’m proud to have signed a term limit pledge for myself and to support this constitutional amendment to break up the farm system of politics and take on the dysfunction in D.C.” –Senator Mike Braun

“Every year, Congress spends billions of dollars on giveaways for the well-connected: Washington insiders get taxpayer money and members of Congress get re-elected, all while the system fails the American people. It’s no wonder that the vast majority of Americans from every political stripe – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – overwhelmingly support congressional term limits. The rise of political careerism in today’s Congress is a sharp departure from what the Founders intended for our federal governing bodies. I have long called for this solution for the brokenness of Washington, D.C., and I will continue fighting to hold career politicians accountable. As I have done in the past, I urge my colleagues to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification.” Senator Ted Cruz

Gov. Holcomb Names Cook As Inspector General

0

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb today announced that he has selected David Cook to serve as the Indiana Inspector General.

“David Cook brings decades of public service experience to the position of Inspector General,” Gov. Holcomb said. “I am grateful that David has agreed to serve Indiana in this position, and I am confident that he is the right man for the job of ensuring Hoosiers get the great government service they deserve.”

Cook currently serves as the chairman of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission. He was appointed by then-Gov. Pence in 2015 and reappointed by Gov. Holcomb in 2017. The Commission is responsible for regulating and licensing the alcohol and tobacco industries. The ATC also directs the Indiana State Excise Police.

During his tenure as chairman, Cook built an enforcement strategy focused on compliance through education and assistance, and partnered with local law enforcement to address problem establishments and decrease criminal activity. He also created industry roundtables to improve communication between the commissioners and industry members.

Prior to his time at ATC, Cook served as judge of Marion Superior Criminal Division 7, a high-volume misdemeanor court. From 1995-2008, he served as the chief public defender for Marion County. Additionally, he served as a judicial officer on civil and family law cases in the Marion County Circuit Court. From 1979-1989, he worked in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office as chief trial deputy. Cook also spent time in private practice.

Cook earned an undergraduate degree from Ball State University and a law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law.

UE Nursing Graduates Achieve 100 Percent First-Time Pass Rate on NCLEX-RN

The class of 2020 graduates of the University of Evansville’s Dunigan Family School of Nursing achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). The national average for the first-time pass rate was 87.5 percent in 2020.

Senior-level nursing students were halfway through their final semester when the COVID-19 pandemic made its way to the United States. Despite the sudden change in learning formats and clinical rotations, the students adapted quickly.

“I was very impressed to see them maintain a resilient focus and push through adversity,” said Jerrilee LaMar, PhD, RN, CNE, chair of the Dunigan Family School of Nursing. “While they didn’t get to finish their studies in the classroom together or have a pinning ceremony, they did receive a high-quality education that prepared them for success.” LaMar also recognized the compassionate faculty that were instrumental in helping students along the way.

The Dunigan Family School of Nursing incorporates several strategies into the program to prepare students for the NCLEX-RN. Several years ago, the faculty developed a review course for seniors. In the course, students take practice exams that identify strengths and weaknesses in specific areas. The faculty, who serve as mentors, help students write individualized study strategies that prepare them for the NCLEX exam.

To encourage students to think like a nurse earlier on in the curriculum, the faculty also developed a course that strengthens students’ decision-making and understanding of complex issues to answer questions seen on the NCLEX exam. This course was piloted with the junior-level students, and the results were so successful that it became part of the required curriculum. Additionally, underclassmen are paired with a senior nursing student as an additional resource for help along the way.

“All of our 2020 graduates are now working as nurses in the healthcare field, and many of them are working with COVID-19 patients,” said LaMar. “We are immensely proud to see them applying their skills and passion to help those struggling most during the pandemic.”

Students at the University of Evansville shape powerful and enduring change. UE is the first in Indiana to be designated as an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus, and its changemaking culture empowers students to improve the world around them as UE Changemakers. UE has an array of majors in business; engineering; the arts and sciences; and health science programs. UE has a diverse student body that represents 44 states and 52 countries. U.S. News & World Report recognizes UE as the #4 Best College in the Midwest among private schools. For more information, please visit evansville.edu.
