Braun Statement on Constitutionality of Former President Trump’s Trial

0

U.S. Senator Mike Braun released the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate’s vote on the constitutionality of former President Donald J. Trump’s impeachment trial.

“As I have stated earlier, the Framers of the Constitution never intended for the Senate to hold a trial to remove a former President from an office he no longer holds, which is why I voted against the constitutionality of former President Trump’s impeachment trial. President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats would be wise to unite the country by working with Republicans to safely reopen our economy and defeat the virus, instead of dividing us through this impeachment trial.”

Evansville’s Heavy Trash Pickup Goes Year-Round With More Items Accepted

3

Changes to the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility’s heavy trash service now make it easier for residential customers to dispose of heavy trash throughout the year. The service has moved from two dedicated heavy trash days annually to pickups scheduled by the customer as often as every two weeks, except during fall leaf collection, which runs November through mid-December. Customers benefit by knowing a specific heavy trash pickup date and from less mess sitting curbside.

 How it works

  1. Customers must call the Republic Services Customer Resource Center at (800) 886-3345 to schedule a pickup for a specific day.
  2. The day before the scheduled pickup, the customer will place the item where they normally place trash and recycle.
  3. A collection truck will pick it up.

Heavy Trash – What’s Allowed and What’s Not

One item is accepted per pickup, except for items that are usually a pair, such as a mattress and a box spring or a table and chairs.

Allowable items include:

  • Appliances – Such as a stove, washer, dryer, water heater, and refrigerator or freezer with refrigerants removed and tagged by a certified professional – and meeting the City’s safety guidelines regarding disposal
  • Carpet – One rolled section that is less than 4 feet long and 2 feet around
  • Electronics – Stereo, radio, etc.
  • Furniture – Such as a sofa, table, chair, mattress, box spring, dresser or bookcase
  • Household items and tools – Like a rake or shovel
  • Limited construction and building material – In one container; no boxes, bags, loose piles or stacks

 Items not allowed include:

  • Auto parts – Like batteries and tires
  • Electronics – TV, computer, computer parts or accessories
  • Construction materials – Such as concrete blocks, bricks, steel poles or privacy fencing
  • Hazardous materials – Any materials that are hazardous to humans or animals

Handling an Extra-bulky Item

Bulky items that cannot be reasonably lifted by two people or will not fit inside the collection truck, such as a swing set, are considered a special collection and will not be accepted. Customers may ask Republic Services or another disposal service provider for a quote on the cost of removal.

Who’s Eligible for Heavy Trash Service

Heavy trash service is available to City residents who pay for trash service with their water bill. Apartment complexes, mobile home communities, business and commercial customers, and County residents are not eligible.

Spring Yard Waste and Fall Leaf Collection

The spring yard waste program remains unchanged and will be conducted April 5-30, 2021. Leaf collection will be offered in November and the first two weeks in December.

More information on the City’s heavy trash program is available at www.ewsu.com/heavytrash.

Hoosiers Have Opportunity to Purchase Health Insurance During Special Enrollment Period

0

The Indiana Department of Insurance wants Hoosiers to know they have another opportunity to enroll in health insurance on the Federal Affordable Care Act Exchanges (HealthCare.gov) if they missed enrolling in the fall. The 2021 regular open enrollment period ended on December 15, 2020. The new opportunity to purchase health insurance follows the executive order signed by President Biden on January 28 to reopen enrollment on the Federal Marketplace. The special enrollment period is February 15 to May 15.

Starting February 15, Hoosiers seeking to take advantage of this Special Enrollment period can find out if they are eligible by visiting HealthCare.gov. If eligible, you can enroll and select a plan with coverage that starts the first of the month after plan selection. The premium must be paid by the 15th of the month after plan selection for coverage to start on the first of the next month. If the premium is paid between the 16th and the end of the month, coverage will start on the first of the month after next. You will have 30 days after submitting your application to choose a plan.

Current enrollees will be able to change to any available plan in their area without restriction to the same level of coverage as their current plan. During the Special Enrollment Period, current enrollees will need to go through their application and make any needed changes to their current information, then submit their application to receive an updated eligibility result to continue on to enrollment. Intimidation at Taco Bell

0

On February 8, around 9:15 p.m., the Evansville Police Department was called to Taco Bell at 1001 N. Green River Road. Officers were told that a black male, wearing a red, black and white shirt was in the parking lot waving a gun around.

The caller, who was an employee of the store, gave dispatch the description of the suspect and what vehicle he arrived in.

When officers arrived, they were able to quickly locate the suspect in his vehicle. From a safe distance, officers gave the suspect verbal commands to exit his car. Initially, he refused to exit and made several requests for officers to shoot him.

The suspect, later identified as D Yawn Dontae Griffin (26), eventually exited his vehicle. Once outside of his car, he began doing pushups on the pavement before finally complying with the officer’s commands. He was then placed into custody with no further incident.

After being placed into custody, officers were able to locate a loaded handgun, 6 handgun magazines and 117 rounds of ammunition in Griffin’s vehicle.Â
