Shooting 315 Taylor Ave.
 On April 17, around 1:15 a.m., Evansville Police Officers heard multiple gunshots being fired from the area of 315 Taylor Ave. As officers were arriving in the area, central dispatch advised that there were several calls about multiple shots being fired in that same area.Â
When officers arrived, several vehicles were leaving the area and people were running and screaming that someone had been shot. One of the subjects on scene showed officers where the victim was located, in the 1400 block of Judson. Officers observed a white Honda CRV that had knocked over a fence and was wrecked into two houses. Inside the vehicle, the victim was located with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head.Â
Officers began rendering aid to the victim and additional officers began to deal with crowd control. A crime scene was established and several additional officers were called to keep the crowd back, as this all stemmed from a birthday party being held at 315 Taylor Ave.Â
While canvassing the scene, approximately 50+ shell casings were located throughout the 1400 and 1500 block of Judson along with several in the 200 and 300 block of Taylor. There were at least 3 different caliber guns involved.Â
The victim was transported to a local hospital where his condition in not known at this time. Officers on scene received little to no assistance on a potential suspect and no one has been arrested for the shooting at this time.Â

Serious Bodily Injury Accident
 On April 16, around 9:00 p.m., the Evansville Police Department was dispatched to Washington Ave, just east of Kentucky Ave, for a single car accident involving a pedestrian.Â
A vehicle traveling eastbound stuck a pedestrian crossing the street southbound. The pedestrian was unresponsive on scene. He was transported to a local hospital and is currently in ICU.Â
The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of impairment and consented to a chemical test. Multiple witnesses provided statements. Detectives, Crime Scene and an Accident Reconstructionist arrived at the scene to investigate.Â
Evansville drops series opener to Missouri State, 5-3
Gray closed the night pitching seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking-out five. Michael Parks received the loss, lasting two-thirds of an inning, giving-up two runs on two hits. Coming in to finish the outing was Drew Dominik, going the final inning and a third, allowing just one hit and sitting down three batters via strikeout.
At the plate, Kenton Crews, Danny Borgstrom, and Ben Komonosky led the way with a pair of hits each with Crews delivering an RBI. Tanner Craig crushed his team-best fifth home run of the season, giving the junior two RBI in the opener.
Missouri State got to work early in the contest, plating three runs in the first two innings. In the first, the Bears got a single on the first pitch of the game, following it up with a walk to put a pair on with no outs. A base-hit two batters later loaded the bases and Baldwin delivered an RBI single to center to give the Bears a 1-0 lead before Gray ended the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.
Two more runs were added by Missouri State in the top half of the second on a two-run home run by Jenkins to right field that gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage. Beginning in the third, Gray showcased the best of his stuff, facing the minimum each inning from the third to the seventh and giving Evansville’s offense a chance to get going.
The Aces bats did just that in the middle portions of the game as Crews drove home Komonsky in the third to chip away at the Bears advantage.
In the sixth, Borgstrom singled to center with just one out, turning the plate over to Craig. The Scottsburg, Ind. native took advantage, driving a towering two-run homer to center field and tying the game at three.
The turning point of the contest came in the eighth when Gray gave way to Parks. The Bears opened the inning with a base-hit, advancing the runner to second on a wild pitch with one out. The insuing at-bat saw Rolffs deliver what would prove to be the game-winning run with a double to left, scoring Wood. Two batters later, with Dominik taking over for Parks, Missouri State added a second run in the inning with an RBI single from Hull to provide a 5-3 lead for the Bears.
Evansville appeared to have something going in the eighth with a lead-off double by Simon Scherry, but Ziegenbein locked-in for the Bears and sat the next six Aces down in order, securing the 5-3 Missouri State win.
The two teams meet for a doubleheader on Saturday at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville beginning at 1 PM.
FIRE DEATH OF 3 YEAR OLD
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, the Evansville Police Department, and the Evansville Fire Department are investigating a fire on Read St. and subsequent death of a 3 year old occupant. The child was taken from the house to Deaconess Hospital where he died. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday at 09:00 hrs.Â
Eagles lose 5-2 road match to Bearcats
University of Southern Indiana Women’s Tennis (3-9, 3-3 GLVC) dropped their Great Lakes Valley Conference match this afternoon to the University of McKendree (5-5, 3-5 GLVC), 5-2 at Triad High School.
DOUBLES: The Bearcats came out and swept all three of the doubles matches leaving all Screaming Eagles’ points to come in singles play.
SINGLES: Eagles did secure two points as a team, the first was thanks to freshman Rachel McCorkle who won the No. 2 straight-sets.
Also, sophomore teammate Jasmine Shireman picked up a victory in the No. 6 ultimately prevailing in a super tiebreaker set, 10-4.
Up Next: The Eagles will travel to Springfield, Illinois to take on University of Illinois Springfield April 17 for another road GLVC match.
USI Baseball falls to Lewis, 8-5
University of Southern Indiana Baseball rallied in the ninth, but fell short of Lewis University, 8-5, Friday evening at the USI Baseball Field. The Screaming Eagles go to 16-13 overall and 12-9 GLVC, while the Flyers end the evening 15-10, 13-8 GLVC.
USI got the 1-0 lead early with a tally in the second inning when senior catcher Wyatt Daly scored on a RBI-single by senior leftfielder Bryce Krizan. The Eagles would hold the lead until the fourth when the Flyers knotted the contest at 1-1.
Lewis took control with a five-run sixth to lead, 6-1, and increased the margin to 8-1 with a pair of tallies in the ninth.
The Eagles made a game of it with a four-run ninth inning to close to within 8-5. Junior second baseman Ethan Hunter made the score 8-3 with a two-run triple to right center, while junior third baseman Michael Conner finished off the scoring with a two-run double to right center.
USI senior shortstop Kobe Stephens had a team-best three hits in the loss.
On the mound, senior right-hander Austin Gossmann took the loss for the Eagles. Gossmann (2-4) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out four in 5.1 innings.
Freshman right-hander Carter Stamm finished the game for the Eagles, allowing two uneared runs on three hits, while striking out five in 3.2 frames of action.

USI WSOC falls in finale; hosting GLVC 1st round Monday
University of Southern Indiana Women’s lost its Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season finale, 1-0, at McKendree University Friday evening in Lebanon, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles are 10-3-1 after tonight’s action, while the Bearcats are 11-2-1.
USI trailed McKendree at the break, 1-0, after the Bearcats picked up a goal at the 11:53 mark. The Eagles had the advantage in shots by halftime, 7-5, and in corners, 3-2.
The Bearcats would make their first half goal stand up in the final 45 minutes, withstanding eight USI shots, two on-goal, to preserve the victory. USI sophomore forward Morgan Beyer had the best chance for the Ealges, hitting the crossbar at the 80:27 mark.
Up Next for the Eagles:
USI will be the third seed in the GLVC Tournament which starts Monday for the Eagles at Strassweg Field. The Eagles will host Rockhurst University, which will be the sixth seed, at 6:30 p.m. Live coverage available at GoUSIEagles.com.
Rockhurst has a 7-4-3 overall mark this spring and won its last two matches to earn a berth in the league tournament. The Hawks defeated the Eagles, 2-1, in Kansas City, Missouri, during the regular season.
Following Monday’s action, the GLVC Tournament concludes April 23 & 25 at Hunter Stadium on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. The GLVC semifinal games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 23, while the conference championship game will be play at 3 p.m. April 25.
