Both will be participating in Women’s U21 World Championships
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville volleyball student-athletes Josdarilee Caraballo and AInoah Cruz are set to represent Puerto Rico in the upcoming Women’s U21 World Championship.
Both were selected to participate in the U21 World Championship, which will take place in August in Surabaya, Indonesia.
“The Aces volleyball program couldn’t be prouder of Ainoah and Josda as they represent Puerto Rico this summer as members of the U21 team. Putting on a national team uniform is a tremendous honor, and we know that they will represent the University of Evansville, Puerto Rico, and most importantly, themselves, with immense pride and humility,” Purple Aces head volleyball coach Zach Weinberg exclaimed. “While I’m sad they won’t be around for a large portion of our preseason, I could not think of a better reason for them to miss. We will be cheering for them from afar!”
Tournament action begins with pool play on August 7. Puerto Rico opens with matches against Serbia and Argentina on the first day. After facing Indonesia on Aug. 9, Puerto Rico faces Canada (Aug. 11) and Vietnam (Aug. 12). Following those contests, teams will be re-bracketed and teams will continue playing the following week.

The Otters got the scoring going early in the first. Dennis Pierce reached via the walk and eventually came around to score after a stolen base and wild pitch.
With a 1-0 lead, the pitching held strong in the first three. In the fourth, Washington struck for the first time. A two-run home run and an RBI double gave them the lead 3-1 heading into the fifth.
The Otters immediately responded with some offense. JT Benson drove in a run on a single, which was his third hit of the night, to make it 3-2. After that, Pavin Parks launched a ball over the video board in right field for a two-run home run and gave Evansville another lead, 4-3.
The game continued to go back and forth. Washington scored three in the bottom half of the sixth to take over, 6-4.
The seesaw nature of this one didn’t end there. After loading the bases, Keenan Taylor hit a soft grounder up the middle for an infield single to drive in one. A throwing error then allowed two more runs to score and Evansville took their third lead of the night at 7-6.
Washington was up to keep the battle going, scoring in the eighth to tie it up. Both bullpens held strong in the ninth to send it to extras.
After Evansville didn’t score in the top of the tenth, the Wild Things walked it off on an infield single in the bottom half to take the game, 8-7.
JT Benson went 4-for-5 on the night with an RBI and stolen base.
The Otters play in the finale tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. CT before returning home this weekend for their final series before the All-Star break.

Summer bill payment assistance now available through the Customer Assistance Fund

Customers may apply once during the calendar year. Those customers who already received assistance in 2025 are ineligible until the new funding year begins in 2026 as funding is only allotted once per calendar year.
Administered in partnership with The Salvation Army Indiana Division, the CAF features an easy and accessible application process. More information is available at CenterPointEnergy.com/CAF.
Additional tips, tools and resources for customers for energy and cost savings
Customers can do the following to stay comfortable while saving energy and money:
· Turn up the thermostat when leaving home: Raise the temperature a few degrees when away from home for energy savings. With a smart or programmable thermostat, a cooling system can work around a customer’s schedule.
· Change or clean filters in HVAC systems: Air conditioning represents approximately 50 percent of a home’s energy use when it’s warm out. Regular maintenance can extend the life of a home’s system, so change or clean filters to keep the system running efficiently.
· Slay energy vampires: Energy drainers – also known as “energy vampires”– are electronic devices and appliances that suck up electricity by hovering in standby or ready mode without fully powering off. Save energy by turning off non-essential electric appliances, equipment and lights when not in use.
· Use ceiling fans to circulate cool air: Setting ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise helps circulate cool air and keep rooms at a comfortable temperature.
· Keep warm air out: Use weatherstripping or caulk areas in and around a home where cooled air may escape, such as around windows and doors or anywhere else warm air might enter.
· Block the sun’s rays: When temperatures increase outside, keep window coverings closed when the sun is shining brightest to maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature.
· Upgrade appliances and equipment: When replacing appliances and equipment, choose models with increased energy efficiency ratings for long-term cost savings. Rebates may be available for qualifying appliances.
