Frontier League to Begin Long-Awaited Return with Season Opener Tonight
The Frontier League of Professional Baseball opens its 28th season today as all 14 teams compete across much of the US from the suburbs of Chicago to the suburbs of New York City. After an entire season lost to the global pandemic, the 2021 Frontier League season marks a celebratory return with the added excitement of playing its first season as an official Partner League of Major League Baseball.
The league has sold the contracts of over 1,000 professional players total to all 30 Major League teams since its inception, including nearly 20 contracts during spring training before the first pitch of the 2021 season. Last week former Windy City ThunderBolts player Tommy Nance made his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs.
The Frontier League is the largest of the four MLB Partner Leagues featuring teams spanning the Midwestern and Northeastern United States plus Eastern Canada.
Jon Danos, CEO of the Frontier League, said: “Our communities are bursting with excitement to finally return to our ballparks and enjoy the unique experiences offered by our players and staffs on and off the fields. In fact, despite some ongoing restrictions and distancing protocols, I would say the enthusiasm is palpable with all the fun and possibilities that come with Opening Day and a return to life as we know it. Play ball.â€
The 96-game regular season ends on September 12 shortly before the playoffs begin featuring the winners of the four divisions who will compete for the Frontier League Championship. The league will also play with a new twist on its tie-breaking rules. If the score remains tied following the International Tiebreaker in the 10th inning, a home run derby shall be conducted to end the game in dramatic fashion.
For the first time, the Frontier League will livestream all 672 games during the 2021 season through FrontierLeagueTV.com and through the new Frontier League app for Apple and Android devices.  The streaming initiative comes as demand for Frontier League content escalates throughout the league’s wide footprint and beyond and as, together with MLB, the league extends its reach to more and more fans in North America.
Games begin at 6:34pm EST when the Florence Y’alls host the Washington Wild Things. Other games feature New Jersey Jackals at New York Boulders, Tri-City ValleyCats at Sussex County Miners, Équipe Québec at Gateway Grizzlies, Southern Illinois Miners at Lake Erie Crushers, Evansville Otters at Schaumburg Boomers, and Joliet Slammers at Windy City ThunderBolts.

Braun to Dr. Fauci: “Will You Ask Pres. Biden, To Declassify COVID-19 Origin Intel?”Â
WASHINGTON – In a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee today, Senator Mike Braun asked Dr. Anthony Fauci – given his support for transparency in the investigation of the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic – if he will recommend that President Biden declassify all intelligence related to a link between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the coronavirus.

In April, Senator Braun cosponsored legislation with Senator Josh Hawley to force the Biden administration to declassify intelligence related to the origins of the COVID pandemic and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Citing intelligence the U.S. possesses regarding the Wuhan Institute of Virology and noting that the China’s Communist regime is not a reliable source of information, Senator Braun pressed Dr. Fauci on the issue of declassifying information on the origins of the COVID pandemic:
SEN. BRAUN: Since you believe in transparency, wouldn’t you think that we should declassify all the information that we own so that you, Americans, and independent researchers can see what we’ve got to sort through how this thing started?
DR. FAUCI: Well Senator, I’ve said publicly and most recently that I believe there should be transparency and fair and open independent – continue to look. As I said I still believe the most likely scenario is this was a natural occurrence, but no one knows that 100% for sure, and since there’s a lot of concern, a lot of speculation, and since no one absolutely knows that, I do believe we need the kind of investigation where there’s open transparency and all the information that’s available be made available to scrutinize.
SEN. BRAUN: Since you’ve been the point person on a variety of topics through the COVID saga, does that mean then you will ask President Biden to declassify that information?
- FAUCI: I don’t think I can promise you that –
SEN. BRAUN: Would you ask him, since you believe in transparency, wouldn’t that make sense that we get the information that we have? We owe it to the American people with all that we’ve been through to at least look at the information that we have.
- FAUCI: I’m not sure the information we have. I’m not sure its my place to tell the President of the United States to declassify –
SEN. BRAUN: You’ve been very engaged on a wide range of topics and I think he would respect your opinion as much as anyone.
Attorney General’s Office Files Court Brief Reiterating Proper Limits To Governor’s Authority
The Office of the Indiana Attorney General has filed a court brief that reiterates that Indiana Supreme Court precedents hold that the Governor may not — without the consent of the Attorney General — call another branch of state government to account before a third branch of state government.
These legal issues arose when the Governor unlawfully sued the Indiana General Assembly following its override of the Governor’s veto of House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1123, which enables the legislature to call itself into emergency session following a declaration of a state emergency.
The Governor’s constitutional responsibility in regard to HEA 1123 concluded with his veto of the provision.
“Indiana law vests the Attorney General with the authority and responsibility for setting a single legal policy on behalf of the State,†the brief states. “Indiana courts, meanwhile, have authority to resolve concrete and justiciable legal disputes. . . . If HEA 1123 imposes a concrete injury on a private party that challenges the statute’s validity in a justiciable case, Indiana courts will resolve that dispute.†The brief argues that the Governor’s unauthorized lawsuit did not meet those tests.
Furthermore, the brief states, “The Rules of Professional Conduct expressly contemplate the Attorney General’s authority on this count. They acknowledge that lawyers under the supervision of the Attorney General ‘may be authorized to represent several government agencies in intragovernmental legal controversies in circumstances where a private lawyer could not represent multiple private clients. These Rules do not abrogate any such authority.’â€
The Office of the Attorney General’s brief is attached.

O’Brien: New Law Protects In-Person Worship During Public Emergencies
STATEHOUSE (May 24, 2021) – Legislation supported by State Rep. Tim O’Brien (R-Evansville) protecting Hoosiers’ right to gather for religious worship services during future public emergencies is now law.
During the early months of the pandemic, in-person religious services were prohibited, which O’Brien said cut constituents off from critical services and connections. Senate Enrolled Act 263 prohibits the state or other government bodies from restricting the right to worship in-person, classifying religious gatherings as essential. According to O’Brien, other religious activities like food pantries, daycare or school services can also not be more restricted than other essential services.
“There is a balance between recommending restrictions and ordering a facility to fully close its doors, especially considering places of worship can do so much good for a community,” O’Brien said. “Religious institutions provide incredibly important services such as giving families such a space to grieve, worry and work through life circumstances. Protecting Hoosiers’ right to worship in person is critical.”
O’Brien said according to an annual Gallup poll, Americans’ mental health in 2020 was worse than at any point in the last two decades.Frequent church attendees showed the least change in their mental health ratings, which O’Brien said is a strong sign that religious institutions are vital to society.
Senate Enrolled Act 263 is effective July 1, 2021. Visit iga.in.gov for more information.
