SUNSHINE BAKERY A HOME OWNED AND HOME GROWN BUSINESS

The Sunshine Bakery sprung from the dream to bring home-cooked comfort to the workplace. Many of the hard-working employees in our community rarely have time to prepare breakfast or lunch at home and therefore lack the warmth of made-from-scratch goodness on a daily basis. Salome Micheletti, the founder of the Bakery, saw this need and in the spring of 2021 decided to do something about it.

As a little girl, Salome Micheletti was taught by her mother how to bake and cook from scratch. She fell in love with it. Delivering something flavorful and delicious to her friends and family became one of her favorite pastimes. When she joined the workforce in 2018, she became aware of how little those who work an eight-to-five have the luxury of enjoying that flavor of home.

The Sunshine Bakery now offers the solution  They are bringing incredible, freshly baked goodness right to your workplace. Some of the favorites are “Blue My Mind“ muffins, “Roll me Some Love” cinnamon rolls and “Honey Bear Granola”. Sunshine Bakery also offers a lunch catering menu called ”Sunshine’s Sliders”. Otters outslugged by Grizzlies in series opener

0

In an offensive slugfest, the Gateway Grizzlies capitalized on four long balls to take the series opener against the Evansville Otters by a 9-7 final.

The Otters took an early lead in the top of the second, when Evansville loaded the bases for Jose Pujols, who plated Andretty Cordero from third with a sacrifice fly to right.

Gateway responded swiftly in the second, when Jordan Rathbone belted his first pro-ball home run to right center, a three-run shot that scored Abdiel Diaz, who had reached via a base on balls, and Connor Owings, who had singled ahead of Rathbone.

In the top of the third, the Otters would respond to regain the lead. After Miles Gordon led off the inning with a single, Elijah MacNamee was hit by a pitch. J.R. Davis followed the MacNamee plate appearance by drawing a walk ahead of Riley Krane. With the bases loaded, Riley Krane smashed a lead-changing grand slam to right-center field for his eighth home run of the season. Evansville then took a 5-3 lead.

Gateway proved anxious to leave the Otters with a lead, clubbing their second three-run homer in consecutive innings to regain the advantage, as Jose Rosario cleared the left field wall at GCS Credit Union ballpark with a line drive shot. Gateway then led 6-5.

Dustin Woodcock got into the home run derby in the bottom of the fourth, belting a two-run shot to right that extended Gateway’s lead to 8-5.

Evansville would load the bases in the top of the fifth before cutting the Grizzlies lead to two, as Cordero hit into a 5-3 double play that scored MacNamee from third. Evansville then trailed 8-6.

The Otters clawed within one in the top of the sixth, as Andrew Penner scored from third on an infield single hit by Gordon that led to a throwing error from the Grizzlies shortstop. Evansville drew within one, exiting the top of the sixth with an 8-7 deficit.

Jacob Bowles relieved Austin Gossmann to begin the home half of the sixth. Woodcock met him with the bases empty and one out by hitting his second homer of the day, pushing Gateway’s lead to 9-7, which would serve as the final.

Bowles would toss a scoreless seventh to be followed by Samson Abernathy, who fired a 1-2-3 eighth.

Otters starter Austin Gossmann (2-4) took the loss, while Jordan Barrett (3-4), the Grizzlies starter, earned the win. Geoff Bramblett earned the save.

O’Brien Receives Standing Committee Assignments

0

STATEHOUSE (July 22, 2021) – State Rep. Tim O’Brien (R-Evansville) was recently appointed to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Elections and Apportionment Committee.

“Whether it’s managing our state’s spending or maintaining the integrity of our elections, these committees will tackle issues most important to Hoosiers,” O’Brien said. “This is a tremendous opportunity and I look forward to diving into these issues during the next session.”

House standing committees meet throughout the legislative session, which convenes each year in January. O’Brien said committees hear testimony and further vet potential new laws before the full House of Representatives considers the bill. Committee hearings typically occur at the Statehouse In Indianapolis, and Hoosiers can access committee hearings, calendars and agendas online at iga.in.gov.

Standing committee appointments are typically made biennially after each election, however O’Brien was selected by a caucus in March to serve out the remaining term of former State Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville).

Commentary: America’s Two Pastimes

By John Krull

PITTSBURGH—The first alert came in the middle of the game.

John Krull, publisher, TheStatehouseFile.com

I was at PNC Park with my brother, my cousin and my cousin’s wife watching the Pirates play the New York Mets when my phone started vibrating with news alerts. There had been another shooting in America—this one in Washington, D.C., outside Nationals Park, where the Nats were playing the San Diego Padres.

The gunfire in the nation’s capital started in the sixth inning of that game. At first some of the people in the ballpark thought the loud pops were fireworks.

Then, because this is America, a country where gunshots are as routine as rain, they realized what was happening. Fans, players and ballpark employees started scrambling to find shelter.

Eventually, after at least three people had been wounded—one of them a female fan who was outside the stadium—order was restored, the game was suspended, and everyone was allowed to leave.

Another memorable night in America made possible by our irrational infatuation with guns.

I’ve been to Nationals Park.

I didn’t pay much attention to baseball after the Cincinnati Reds 1970s glory days. (It was impossible to be a teenage male in Indiana in the 1970s and not be captivated by the Big Red Machine.)

Then I had a son who was wild about baseball. In addition to playing the game, he loved to watch it.

So, we started taking father-son trips to ballparks all across the country—major league, minor league, college, it didn’t matter—to see games. Those were special trips, special times.

Particularly when my son was little, it was a delight to see the game through his eyes—to discover it all over again. It was the cliché. Taking my son to baseball games reminded me of going to see the Cleveland Indians play in the old Municipal Stadium with my father when I was barely old enough to walk.

One time, we went to Cleveland for a weekend. We saw an extra-inning game on Saturday night, with plans to see the Tribe play again Sunday afternoon. Because the Saturday night game had gone long, it was close to midnight by the time we got to the hotel, and I got him cleaned up and tucked into bed.

At 5 a.m., he woke up—as excited as if it were Christmas morning—and asked when the game started.

Doubtless, there were other fathers and other sons at that Nationals game when the shooting started. Instead of spending the night talking with their sons about the game and maybe pointing out how players subtly shift their positions and postures depending upon the play, those dads likely were thinking of other things.

Such as, how to shield their sons’ bodies with their own if the gunman came anywhere near them.

Gun advocates tell us this is just the way things must be. Or they argue that this epidemic of gun violence is the result of liberal “catch-and-release” policies.

That argument is nonsense, the sort of stuff spread around to help crops grow.

The United States imprisons a larger portion of its population than any other industrialized nation—a higher percentage, in fact, than authoritarian police states. If it were possible to jail our way out of this disaster, it would have worked by now.

It hasn’t.

Instead, we live in an America in which we can expect there is always a chance we will be shot in our homes.

On the street.

At the supermarket.

In school.

At the workplace.

In church.

And now at the ballpark.

As I watched the Pirates game with my brother, my cousin and his wife—a thrilling contest the Bucs won with a walk-off grand-slam two-out homer in the bottom of the ninth—I thought about how many pleasant hours I’ve spent in ballparks, many of them with people dear to me.

And about how many places of refuge and peace have been taken from us because we Americans cannot deal with our gun problem.

And I thought of a quote attributed to our great national poet, Walt Whitman:

“Base-ball is our game: the American game: I connect it with our national character.”

There was a shooting outside the ballpark in our nation’s capital the other night.

One national pastime came together with another.
