Senator Braun Statement on Supreme Court Nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON – Senator Mike Braun released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court of the United States. Senator Braun previously voted against Judge Jackson to serve as a U.S. Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit in June 2021.

Evansville Man Arrested for Dealing Marijuana, Over $14,000 Seized

Vanderburgh County – Thursday night, February 24, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Trooper Widner stopped the driver of a white Chrysler 300 on Wabash Avenue south of the Lloyd Expressway for failing to signal properly. The driver was identified as Dalton Keller, 23, of Evansville. While talking to Keller, Trooper Widner observed a bag containing marijuana inside the vehicle. Troopers searched Keller and removed approximately $840 in U.S. Currency from Dalton’s sweatpants pocket and a joint containing marijuana. The bag that was observed inside the vehicle contained approximately 122 grams of marijuana. A further search of the vehicle revealed two bags of Blazzed Cannabis Infused Bites and another bag containing a small amount of marijuana.

Troopers continued their investigation and searched Keller’s residence located on West Virginia Street in Evansville.  Troopers located one unloaded Springfield 9mm pistol, over 4,000 grams of Blazzed Cannabis Infused Bites, approximately 448 grams of marijuana, 30 grams of an unknown substance, 15 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, and over $14,000 in U.S. Currency.  All the items were seized. Keller was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.

THUNDERBOLTS PREPARE TO HOST RED-HOT RIVERMEN THIS FRIDAY

Evansville, Ind: After responding from a tough road trip in Quad City with a decisive victory over Vermilion County on Tuesday, the Thunderbolts are set for their single game of the weekend against the streaking Peoria Rivermen this Friday night at Ford Center.

  

Week In Review: 

 

            After falling behind 3-0 through the first two periods on Friday in Quad City, the Thunderbolts rallied in the third period, led by a goal and two assists from Brennan Feasey and goals from Zane Jones and Hayden Hulton, however the comeback fell just short in a 4-3 loss.  On Saturday night in Quad City, goals from Brandon Lubin and Cameron Cook gave Evansville a 2-0 lead in the second period, before the Storm rallied with 5 unanswered goals to defeat Evansville 5-2.  On Tuesday morning at Ford Center, 7 goals from 7 different players, led by Cook’s goal and two assists, led the Thunderbolts to a 7-2 walloping of the Vermilion County Bobcats.

The Rivermen found themselves being taken to overtime on Friday night at Vermilion County yet still came up with a 3-2 win behind Mike Laidley’s overtime goal, his second goal of the game.  Peoria followed up with a 4-1 win at home against the Bobcats on Saturday, behind goals from Marcel Godbout, Brandon McMartin, Alec Baer and Mathieu Cloutier.  On Sunday, the Rivermen decisively defeated Quad City at home by a 5-1 score, with two goals from Baer, and other goals from Godbout, Austin Wisely and Nathan Chasteen. The Rivermen play in Vermilion County on Thursday night before traveling to Evansville for Friday’s game.

USI Volleyball to receive 2020-21 championship rings Saturday

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Volleyball players from the 2020-21 GLVC Tournament championship team will be honored Saturday at halftime of the USI-Lindenwood University men’s basketball game.

The Screaming Eagles will receive their championship rings during an official ring ceremony.

USI finished the COVID-altered season with a 17-4 record en route to capturing their first GLVC Tournament title since 2004. The Eagles also earned their first-ever national ranking, landing as high as No. 12 in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll during the regular-season before finishing the year ranked No. 15 in the final poll.

Eagles carrying momentum into Blue Bridge Battle

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Softball looks to carry its momentum from last weekend into this weekend’s Blue Bridge Battle at Kentucky Legend Fields in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Screaming Eagles (8-4), who have won four straight games, begin the weekend Friday at 2 p.m. when they take on Slippery Rock University—their first game Friday was canceled due to inclement temperatures in the forecast, while their game against Slippery Rock was pushed back from its original start time of noon.

USI continues the tournament when it takes on Ohio Dominican University and Notre Dame College (Ohio) Saturday at noon and 4 p.m., respectively. The Eagles conclude the weekend Sunday with games against Northwood University (10 a.m.) and Ashland University (2 p.m.).

USI Softball Notes
• USI goes 5-1 at Music City Invitational.
USI Softball went 5-1 at the Music City Invitational last week, with all six games playing being against NCAA II Midwest Region opponents. The Eagles run-ruled three of their opponents en route to a whopping .396 team batting average on the weekend.

• Eagles offense off to fast start. The Eagles are hitting .376 as a team and enter the weekend ranked first in the GLVC in runs scored (91), hits (129), doubles (26), triples (14) and RBI (85).

• Last week’s leaders. Junior shortstop Jordan Rager (Fishers, Indiana) hit .476 (10-21) with seven runs scored, a double, triple and four RBI to lead the Eagles last week. Senior pitcher/designated player Katie Back (Indianapolis, Indiana) hit .438 (7-16) with three doubles and three RBI, while sophomore first baseman Lexi Fair (Greenwood, Indiana) hit .389 (7-18) with with three doubles, a triple and seven RBI.

In the circle, senior pitcher Maddie Duncan (Lynnville, Indiana) went 1-0 with a save, a 0.00 ERA and .053 opponent batting average in three appearances and six innings of work. Back was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA, while freshman pitcher Hailey Gotshall(Lucerne, Indiana) was 2-0 with a 2.62 ERA.

Aces to take on Alcorn State and Southern Miss

 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Week three of the season will see the University of Evansville softball team travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the Hub City Challenge.  A revised schedule will see the Purple Aces take on Alcorn State in its first two games before taking on Southern Mississippi in the final two contests.  CUSA.TV will have a live stream of all games this weekend with live stats also being available.

 

Traffic Grant Blitz

 The Evansville Police Department would like to announce the start of the traffic safety campaign targeting dangerous and aggressive driving. 

Starting tomorrow, February 25, and ending on March 21, officer with the Evansville Police Department will be out looking for violations that are aggressive and dangerous. Some examples include, speeding, stoplight/stop sign violations, improper lane changes, failure to signal, following too closely, and DUI. 

This time period encompasses the St. Patrick’s Day holiday as well as the beginning of March Madness, which are both occasions where people enjoy alcoholic beverages.
