Senator Mike Braun Presses HHS Secretary Over Government Health Guide

0

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Mike Braun pressed Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra on his Department’s recommendations for “Gender Affirming Care” drugs and surgeries for adolescents.

The Health Resource guide from the Department of Health and Human Services says that, “for transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents, early gender-affirming care is crucial to overall health and well-being.”

The guide goes on to define the term “gender affirming care” as including social affirmation, but also puberty blocking drugs, “partially” irreversible testosterone/estrogen hormone therapy, and completely irreversible “gender-affirming surgeries” such as double mastectomies and genital surgery on a “case by case” basis for adolescents.

Senator Braun asked Secretary Becerra under what “case by case” conditions a sex change surgery would be appropriate for a minor, and whether the Secretary understood that puberty blockers and hormone therapy are not FDA approved for the purpose of gender transition which the Department is recommending.

Senator Braun to Secretary Becerra: “I think the government shouldn’t be pushing kids toward irreversible sex change therapy. We’re moving into territory we’ve never been in as a government. These kids are having a hard time and we should be focusing more on mental health and not surgeries for kids that are totally irreversible. You’re promoting things that are out of sync with most of America and I think it would be wise to back up a little bit.” – Senator Mike Braun

Attorney General Todd Rokita Fights Again To Preserve Trump-era ‘Remain In Mexico’ Policy

Attorney General Rokita Leads An 18-state Coalition In Another U.S. Supreme Court Filing

Attorney General Todd Rokita today led an 18-state coalition in his latest action aimed at preserving the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy, which successfully stemmed the tide of illegal immigrants pouring into the United States until the Biden administration illegally suspended it in January 2021.

“We’re going to keep fighting for the rule of law because the safety and well-being of Hoosiers depend on it,” Attorney General Rokita said. “Illegal aliens crossing the U.S.-Mexico border can show up in Indiana within 48 hours, and we have Hoosier communities overwhelmed by fentanyl, drug trafficking, and human trafficking brought here by the cartels.”

In April, Attorney General Rokita led a 19-state coalition in an initial amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to sustain the “Remain in Mexico” policy — formally titled the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).

Today, Attorney General Rokita filed a supplemental amicus brief addressing several procedural issues, such as whether the U.S. Supreme Court has jurisdiction to settle the questions raised in this case.

“The Biden administration is grasping for ways to justify its intentional disregard of the law,” Attorney General Rokita said. “But there is no such justification, and we are holding them accountable.”

MPP is designed to ensure compliance with longstanding immigration laws passed by Congress requiring that immigrants not clearly authorized to cross the Mexican border into the U.S. be either 1) detained, 2) required to stay in Mexico or 3) “paroled” into the United States based on narrowly defined case-by-case circumstances featuring “urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.”

Attorney General Rokita has traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border twice to assess conditions and discuss issues of mutual concern with leaders from other states. He will visit for a third time this week to meet with his Mexican counterparts.

Walk-off winners again, Aces Sweep Illinois State To Maintain MVC Lead

0
EVANSVILLE – What has become the norm over the last two weekends, the University of Evansville baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off Illinois State, 4-3, and earn its third series sweep in MVC play on Sunday afternoon at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
“Great weekend with another walk-off win. Our offense finally broke through with Tanner delivering the big hit,” said Aces head baseball coach Wes Carroll. “Caleb Reinhardt and our defense played outstanding and gave us a chance to do something special. This Aces team is special to be around and we truly believe in one another. Emotional day for us all on Mother’s Day.”
Similar to his rotation mates earlier in the series, starter Caleb Reinhardt put in a stellar performance on the mound on Sunday. Reinhardt pitched eight innings of work, allowing three runs on six hits, firing a career-best seven strikeouts in the Aces win. As the game moved to the ninth, Evansville turned to Shane Harris, who sat the Redbirds down in order and would earn the win, his fourth of the season, after UE’s ninth-inning comeback.
More of the same from the weekend continued for the Aces at the plate as Evansville generated consistent hitting throughout the order. Simon Scherry, Evan Berkey, and Eric Roberts all finished with multi-hit contests for Evansville, each recording a pair of hits
en route to the 4-3 win.On a beautiful Mother’s Day afternoon, Evansville was again fueled by a dominant early performance on the mound and an economical approach at the plate. After Illinois State put two runners on in the first with one outs, Reinhardt played to UE’s strength, letting its defense record back-to-back outs to get out of the top of the first.

Doing what it needed to early, the Aces pushed a run across in the bottom of the second on double down the left field line from Brendan Hord that sent Berkey home. Hord would again provide UE’s offense in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Berkey to score his second run of the day and give the Aces a 2-0 lead.

Reinhardt was nails on the mound after an early scare in the first, sitting down 14 consecutive Redbirds from the end of the first through the fifth inning. Illinois State would find a breakthrough though in the sixth, getting a runner on for Ryan Cermak, who hit a two run shot to left to tie the game at two. Two innings later, the Redbirds laid down a sacrifice bunt to go in front, 3-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Evansville got a leadoff single from Roberts, followed by a walk from Danny Borgstrom. Still without any outs, Mark Shallenberger drew a five-pitch walk to load the bases for Tanner Craig. On a 1-2 count pitch, Craig lifted a line drive to left center field and rolled it through the game to score Roberts and Borgstrom and walk away with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory.

Evansville closes its homestand on Wednesday with a 6 PM first pitch against SIUE at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.

USI Softball wins fifth GLVC title

0

EAST PEORIA, Ill.—Junior pitcher Allie Goodin (Evansville, Indiana) tossed 13 consecutive scoreless innings Sunday to lead University of Southern Indiana Softball to its fifth Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title and first since 2018.

The No. 15 Screaming Eagles (43-10) began the day with a 4-1 victory over Lindenwood University in the semifinals before defeating No. 3 University of Indianapolis, 1-0, in the championship game.

USI 4, Lindenwood (35-11) 1
USI scored twice in the third inning and two more in the sixth as it rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Lindenwood to earn a berth in the GLVC Championship game.

Sophomore first baseman Lexi Fair (Greenwood, Indiana) tied the game with an RBI-single, while Goodin put the Eagles up, 2-1, with an RBI-single in the next at-bat.

Junior second baseman Rachel Martinez (Chicago, Illinois) pushed across the Eagles third run on a sacrifice bunt, while sophomore outfielder Mackenzie Bedrick (Brownsburg, Indiana) drove in the fourth tally with an RBI-single.

Goodin (12-2) earned the win in the circle for USI after giving up just one run on three hits in seven innings of work.

USI 1, Indianapolis (47-8) 0
After being being held without a hit for the first five innings, the Eagles racked up three hits, including an RBI, pinch-hit single by senior designated player Katie Back (Indianapolis, Indiana), in the sixth inning.

Goodin (13-2), who induced 15 fly ball outs, shook off a lead-off double in the top of the first inning to retire 14 straight batters en route to earning her second victory of the day.
