UE Finishes With A 3.530 Team GPA
NORMAN, Okla. – On Monday, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced its 2021-22 Outstanding Team Academic Award recipients.
With a 3.530-grade point average, the University of Evansville men’s golf team was recognized with President’s Special Recognition. Teams across the nation who finished with season GPAs of 3.5 or higher earned the award.
“The men’s team has earned this honor two years in a row. Only 36 teams in the country were recognized and our young men have been on there two years in a row,†UE head golf coach John Andrews stated. “It shows the kind of commitment they have put in in the classroom. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to work with such academically gifted young men and young ladies in our program.â€
Over the course of the 2021-22 school year, the Purple Aces men’s squad finished with a 3.530 GPA and was one of just 36 Division I teams to be honored. UE joins Drake and Valparaiso as representatives of the Missouri Valley Conference.
Notice is hereby given that the Campus Board of Trustees of Ivy Tech Community College Evansville will hold a meeting in person at 3501 N. First Avenue in the Hilliard Lyons Boardroom (Room 201) on July 27, from 8-9:30 a.m. CST and through Zoom at https://ivytech.zoom.us/j/91345327784?from=addon

The donation will help fund the classroom enrichment activities at Lodge and provide hygiene products for students visiting Hangers.Â
EVANSVILLE, IN – Anthem is partnering with the EVSC Foundation to donate $3,000 to support classroom enrichment activities at Lodge Elementary School this coming school year. It also donated hygiene kits for in-need students who visit Hangers, the EVSC clothing resource.Â
“We are excited to support the students and educators at Lodge, knowing that they work hard to serve their students. We want to come alongside educators as they design and implement enriching activities, and help students with basic needs so they can focus on learningâ€, says Anthem’s Liz Stauth. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield serves students on Medicaid and experiencing homelessness across the Evansville-Vanderburgh county, making them a great partner to families and educators.Â
Hangers serves over 2,500 students each year, providing clothing, shoes, and other basic necessities to our students. “We are grateful to Anthem for their contribution this fall. We serve a large group of students at the beginning of each school year and their donation will help us ensure they can start the school focused on learning and not have to worry about having the clothes and shoes they needâ€, says Dave Schutte, Director of Hangers.Â
This collaboration between Anthem and the EVSC Foundation is part of a larger effort to sponsor schools serving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “Educators in our Priority Schools often pay for project materials and learning resources from their own pockets. This is one way that we can channel community support in an equitable, focused way so that all our students enjoy enriching classroom activitiesâ€, commented Elisabet Sena-Martin, EVSC Foundation President. “We hope other community partners will partner with us to sponsor more schools!â€Â

AUGUSTA, N.J. – The Evansville Otters departed Skylands Stadium Sunday afternoon with an 8-2 win against the Sussex County Miners, receiving solid pitching on the mound and key hits at the plate.
Evansville had early success against Sussex County starter Michael Mediavilla.
In the top of the first inning, Steven Sensley lined a hit to opposite field to drive in Jeffrey Baez for the game’s first run and give Evansville an early 1-0 lead.
The Otters jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third when J.R. Davis singled to right with the bases loaded to score Bryan Rosario from third and Elijah MacNamee from second.
In the meantime, Otters starting pitcher Austin Gossmann got off to a strong start, recording three strikeouts in the first couple of innings.
Sussex County did manage to score a run in each of the third and fourth innings. Juan Silverio brought in Mikey Reynolds for an unearned run in the third, while Nick Garland homered to left in the fourth.
Holding a 3-2 lead through four, Gossmann locked back in on the hill for Evansville. The right-hander struck out four more through the seventh inning.
Gossmann’s counterpart, Mediavilla, allowed three runs and struck out seven in seven innings for the Miners.
The Otters struck for four runs in the top of the eighth inning off three Miners pitchers, increasing their lead to 7-2.
Miles Gordon singled to right to score Davis and Baez to start the scoring in the inning for Evansville. Then Zach Biermann, who pinched-hit in the inning, later scored on an RBI single by Anthony Torreullas. The scoring in the eighth for Evansville finished with George Callil scoring on an error by Sussex County.
Gossmann’s day ended with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, handing the ball over to reliever Augie Gallardo.
Gallardo got out of the bases-loaded jam on a big double play to end the eighth inning, getting David Maberry to fly out to Gordon in centerfield. Gordon proceeded to throw out Alex Toral at home after he tagged up at third base on Maberry’s flyout.
Evansville tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on a sac fly by Gordon, picking up his third RBI of the game.
Offensively, Rosario led Evansville with a three-hit game in his debut. Sensley and Davis finished with two hits each. Davis also had a two-RBI game.
On the mound, Gossmann picked up his fifth win of the season, going 7.1 innings and striking out nine for the Otters. The Miners’ Mediavilla recorded his fifth loss of the season.
Evansville will return home to Bosse Field this week for a six-game homestand, kicking it off with a midweek series against the New York Boulders.
