Gov. Holcomb Calls A Special Session To Return $1 Billion To Hoosier Taxpayers

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb today signed a proclamation calling a special session for the General Assembly to convene on July 6, 2022, to take action on his plan to return more than $1 billion of state reserves to Hoosier taxpayers.
“This is the fastest, fairest and most efficient way to return taxpayers’ hard-earned money during a time of economic strain,†said Gov. Holcomb. “Indiana’s economy is growing and with more than $1 billion of revenue over current projections, Hoosier taxpayers deserve to have their money responsibly returned. I’m happy to be able to take this first step and look forward to signing this plan into law as soon as possible.â€
Each taxpayer would collect about $225 in addition to the $125 Hoosiers are currently receiving from the state’s automatic taxpayer refund (ATR). All told, each eligible Hoosier would receive about $350; a married couple filing jointly would receive about \$700.

“I’m excited to have Coach Gobert back on our staff,” Archuleta said. “Anytime you get a former player/coach back, it is very exciting. Coach Gobert has been to two NJCAA World Series as a coach and brings a lot of passion and knowledge to our team.”
Gobert spent the 2021-22 academic year at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee, where he helped lead the Senators to a 60-7 record and an appearance in the Junior College World Series.
During his tenure with the Senators, Gobert assisted more than 50 players in hitting, infield, outfield, catching, baserunning and pitching. The Senators had four All-Americans in 2022 and were the top-ranked team in their region before finishing third at the NJCAA Division I World Series.

Gobert assisted more than 90 players during his two seasons at Indian Hills and ran the pitching staff during the 2020 season.
“Nick has been a pitching coach and a hitting coach, which makes him very versatile,” Archuleta explained. “He has experience on the recruiting trail and has shown he can locate and bring in quality student-athletes. I’m looking forward to working with Nick and watching him develop our student-athletes.”
Gobert got his start in collegiate coaching as a graduate assistant with the Eagles under Archuleta during the 2018-19 season. The Eagles went 30-21 overall and 21-12 in GLVC play before winning their first round game in the conference tournament.
Prior to joining the Eagles’ coaching staff, Gobert played for Archuleta, helping lead the Eagles to the 2018 NCAA II Midwest Region title and a berth in the NCAA II Championship for the fifth time in program history.
Gobert earned honorable mention All-America honors from the NCBWA in 2018 and was first-team All-Region as well as first-team All-GLVC East Division. At the plate, he hit .357 as a senior with 26 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 55 RBI.
In two seasons in a USI uniform, Gobert hit .316 with 38 doubles, six triples, four home runs, and 79 RBI.
On the mount, he went 5-3 with a pair of saves, a 4.37 ERA and a .253 opponent batting average as a senior after making three appearances during his junior year.

Gobert earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management with a minor in strength and conditioning from USI in 2017 as well as a master’s degree in sport management from USI in 2019.
The Jasper, Indiana, native has served as a baseball camp counselor as well as an assistant coach for the Dubois County Bombers (Ohio Valley League). Gobert and his wife, Haley, who were married in 2021, reside in Evansville.

Todd Rokita Defends Schools’ Rights To Keep Separate Bathrooms Based On Biological Sex
AG Rokita Leads 21-State Brief Supporting Martinsville Schools Following Transgender Student’s Lawsuit
Attorney General Todd Rokita is defending the right of Martinsville Schools to require students to use bathrooms corresponding with their biological sex.
“Boys’ bathrooms are for boys, and girls’ bathrooms are for girls,†Attorney General Rokita said. “I realize this concept is difficult for leftist America-haters to fathom, but most Hoosiers are rightly perplexed that we would even need to defend such basic common sense.â€
A 13-year-old biological female student who identifies as male has sued the Martinsville school district and the principal of John R. Wooden Middle School over being denied entrance to the boys’ bathroom. The student has repeatedly flouted the school’s policy and used the boys’ bathroom anyway — despite the option of using a single-occupant bathroom as an alternative.
The student’s lawsuit, filed through the student’s mother, also demands that the school require staff and other students to refer to the student as a male. It further demands that the school allow the student to participate on the boys’ soccer term.
Failing to accommodate the student in these ways, the student’s lawsuit argues, constitutes discrimination against the student in violation of federal Title IX rules and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
After a U.S. district court granted a preliminary injunction in favor of the student, the school district appealed to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Attorney General Rokita is leading a 21-state amicus brief refuting the student’s arguments and supporting the school district.
“Opening boys’ and girls’ bathrooms to students of the opposite biological sex threatens the privacy and safety of all students,†Attorney General Rokita said. “No law requires schools to go down that dangerous path. No controlling precedent holds that Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause means that schools must permit students to use whatever bathrooms they like.â€

Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA Celebrate National Homeownership Month
Agency, Lt. Gov. Tour Workforce Housing In Orange County
FRENCH LICK, Ind. – June 22, 2022 – Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) celebrate June as National Homeownership Month which highlights the many benefits of homeownership to individuals and communities.
The Orange County Economic Development Partnership (OCEDP) and the French Lick Resort have started a long-term project to create workforce housing in Orange County for Hoosiers to achieve the dream of owning a home. This week, Lt. Governor Crouch and IHCDA toured one of the homes in French Lick which was closed on and the new homeowner moved in this past May. The homeowner never thought the dream of homeownership was possible but thanks to organizations like OCEDP, homeownership is possible for all Hoosiers.
“Owning a home has long been central to achieving the American dream,†said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “I am so thankful and appreciative of the work being done to keep homeownership attainable and sustainable for Hoosiers. We are excited to celebrate Homeownership Month with the Orange County Economic Development Partnership and look forward to seeing their community grow.â€
IHCDA promotes responsible homeownership through programs that assist Hoosiers with obtaining low-interest, fixed-rate loans through the help of down-payment assistance. They offer programs for first-time and repeat homebuyers that can help cover the closing costs and down-payment on the purchase of a home. IHCDA also offers funds to non-profits to develop single family homes for Hoosier homebuyers. The programs can be utilized in all 92 counties and are administered with the help of their participating lenders. For more information about these homeownership programs offered through IHCDA and how to utilize them, visit www.in.gov/ihcda.
“We celebrate homeownership because it’s such an important milestone for an individual or a family to achieve,†said Kristal Painter, Executive Director of the Orange County Economic Development Partnership. “We’re excited that we get to partner with such an amazing organization as French Lick Resort by helping to make the dream of home ownership a reality through the Orange County Workforce Housing Development that is currently under construction in West Baden Springs. The goal is to build 75 homes in West Baden Springs and an additional 25 in French Lick, for a total of 100 homes, which is 100 opportunities for families to continue this celebration for years to come!â€
“We are at an unprecedented time and wanted to take a step back and look at our workforce,†said Dylan Duncan, Vice President of Cook Group. “What are the biggest obstacles to recruitment? For us, affordable housing kept coming up time and time again. There had not been a new development here since the 1960s, apartments were scarce, and the local housing market was challenging. Then we secured some farmland and started meeting with housing developers. We were unable to secure a developer, so we decided to take on the construction of the houses ourselves. We have four completed and another 90+ planned.â€
In June 2002, June was proclaimed National Homeownership Month. The goal of this initiative was to develop support programs and incentives to help every American citizen realize the dream of homeownership. Governor Holcomb recently signed a proclamation renewing the State of Indiana’s commitment to making homeownership affordable, accessible, and equitable for all Hoosiers.
