BURTON APPOINTED TO KEY SUMMER STUDY COMMITTEES

0

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Alex Burton (D-Evansville) has been appointed to the Interim Study Committees on Courts and the Judiciary and Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications.

Burton released the following statement on committee assignments:

“I’m honored to represent Southwest Indiana on these important committees. This is a chance to dig into the data and push for solutions that make life more affordable and fairer for Hoosiers.

“I plan to revisit my proposal from the 2025 session that focused on utility affordability and review Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) reports to advocate for cost transparency and alignment with Indiana’s five pillars of energy policy.

“I am ready to serve and focus on protecting Hoosiers from losing their homes due to medical debt, emergencies or unfair processes.

“We need systems that support people through hardship, not punish them for it.”

Foster-to-Adopt Event at Warrick Humane Society – July 10–15

0

Newburgh, Indiana – Warrick Humane Society is inviting the community to participate in a special Foster-to-Adopt Event from Thursday, July 10 through Tuesday, July 15, giving families the opportunity to find their new best friend while giving dogs a much-needed break from the shelter.

During this event, any dog or puppy over 4 months old (who is up to date on veterinary care) is eligible for a foster-to-adopt trial. This short-term foster allows potential adopters to bring a dog home for a few days to see if they’re a good fit before committing to adoption. If they choose to adopt by July 15, they’ll receive 50% off the adoption fee.

How It Works:
 • Fill out an adoption application in person or online at warrickhumanesociety.org/adoption
 • Bring home a foster dog starting July 10
 • WHS can help provide any necessary care items
 • Decide by July 15 whether to adopt or return
 • Adopt and receive 50% off the adoption fee

Shelter Hours:
 • Wednesday–Thursday: 12 PM – 7 PM
 • Friday–Sunday: 12 PM – 4 PM

This event gives dogs a chance to rest, recharge, and show their personalities outside the shelter setting—and

Otters drop road trip finale in Washington

0
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Evansville Otters (21-32) lost 5-2 to the Washington Wild Things (30-24) on Thursday night in the series finale.

Washington quickly got the scoring going in the first with a three-run home run. Braden Scott, the starter for the night, worked around it and ended the inning strong with a strikeout.

With the score at 3-0 in the top of the second, the Otters responded. Logan Brown put down a perfect bunt up the right side of the infield to score a run and reach for an RBI single.

Scott worked great on the other end of the ball as well. He pitched a scoreless second and third and got up to three strikeouts on the day.

In the home half of the fourth, Washington scored twice thanks to a solo home run and an error to extend their lead 5-1. Scott shook off that inning and worked through the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Evansville would score for the second time. Again, it was L. Brown with a single, this time up the middle to collect his second RBI of the night, making the score 5-2.

Scott’s night on the mound concluded after seven innings, picking up eight strikeouts and four earned runs allowed.

The Wild Things were able to close it out and finish the game by a score of 5-2.

L. Brown finished 2-for-4 with two RBI singles.

The Otters are back home tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m CT against the long-time rival Gateway Grizzlies for Pirate Night, sponsored by Ascension and CAPE.
