Gov. Holcomb To Lead Economic Development Mission To Egypt

0

Indiana Governor Will Speak At Global Conference, UN COP27

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb today announced he will lead an economic development trip to Egypt next week, where he will join global leaders at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. At the conference, Gov. Holcomb will deliver a keynote address about Indiana’s efforts to usher in clean energy infrastructure and innovation to the state’s mixture of energy sources. This is the first time a governor of Indiana has participated in a UN COP event, and Gov. Holcomb will be the only U.S. Midwest governor in attendance this year.

“I’m honored to represent Indiana once again on the world stage to share how our state is a national leader in the future of reliable, renewable, affordable energy production.  As a home to thriving innovators on the cutting-edge of transportation technology, we seek to be a global hub where the welcome mat is rolled out to partners who want to create the future and collaborate to build it,” said Gov. Holcomb. “I look forward to highlighting the ongoing ways Hoosiers continue to pioneer the way forward, develop sustainable solutions, and lead productive global conversations.”

Gov. Holcomb joined by Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers will arrive in Egypt on Sunday, Nov. 6 to meet with business prospects, industry leaders and workforce development partners in Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh. At COP27, hosted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), the governor and secretary will join representatives of more than 200 countries as well as subnational leaders, business executives and academics to elevate Indiana’s global, future-focused economy and to advance investment and partnership opportunities that will further clean energy generation and technology.

“As a state, Indiana is squarely focused on building the economy of the future – one that is powering and is powered by sustainable solutions and clean energy,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers. “We are seeing unprecedented momentum, and Indiana has an incredible story to tell. I look forward to advancing future-focused conversations and partnerships at COP27 that will usher in new innovations and investments, fueling the global economy.”

On Nov. 10, Gov. Holcomb will deliver a keynote address, co-hosted by Georgetown University and the Climate Registry, discussing Indiana’s recent collaborative and public-private initiatives and policies to ensure energy security and stability, while also offering its top manufacturers and consumers access to clean, reliable and affordable energy sources. On Nov. 11, the governor will deliver a speech discussing Indiana’s role in building the future of electric vehicles.

Indiana, which now ranks No. 4 in the U.S. for new clean energy projects under development, is working with a Midwest coalition to pursue a regional hydrogen hub to fuel existing and future industrial processes; actively pursuing industry growth in energy transition-focused manufacturing, investing in companies that are building batteries, electric vehicles, solar panels and microelectronics; and developing a diversified energy strategy.

While at COP27 the governor will advance clean energy- and technology-focused discussions with businesses, universities, U.S. and foreign governments and organizations, including AES Corporation; Corteva Agriscience, which named Indianapolis its global headquarters earlier this year; and Indiana University. Gov. Holcomb will attend a corporate roundtable hosted by Climate Registry and a reception hosted in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Egypt.

Gov. Holcomb will return to Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 12, concluding his 14th international trip as governor and his first visit to Egypt. The costs of the state delegation, which also includes staff members of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and the Governor’s Office, are being paid through private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation.

Indiana is home to more than 1,050 foreign-owned business establishments, representing 40 countries and territories. In 2021, 47 foreign-owned businesses committed to locating or growing in Indiana. Together, these firms plan to invest $3.55 billion in Indiana, creating jobs with an average wage of $29.57 per hour and accounting for 14% of the total new jobs committed in 2021.

UNITED CARING SERVICES AND THE ZION HOUSE PROJECT: THE PASSING OF THE KEY EXPANSION CELEBRATION

0

EVANSVILLE – The Evansville community has over 350 individuals experiencing homelessness each year. United Caring Services (UCS) and its long-time partner, Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ (UCC), have collaborated to offer “Zion House,” a shared permanent supportive housing unit for 5 men in the Evansville community. Zion UCC sold their parsonage to UCS for $1 for UCS to convert the house into a shared housing unit for 5 men who are transitioning out of homelessness.

Shared housing is a more affordable, permanent supportive housing option for individuals who are ready to transition out of homelessness. Shared housing with intentional case management is something that has not been offered in the Evansville area until now.

Zion House will offer each resident his own private bedroom with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and living areas. The Zion House programming will support each person with individual case management.

Once the funding and renovations for the parsonage are complete, UCS expects to be ready for occupancy in late 2023, early 2024. With this collaboration, Zion Evangelical UCC’s mission continues while UCS’s mission expands.

United Caring Services and Zion Evangelical UCC invite the news media and public to join us for the Passing of the Key Expansion Celebration on Friday, November 4 at 1:30 pm at the newly named Zion House at 416 NW 6th Street. Those attending will be invited to tour the parsonage, the church building, as well as United Caring Services’ main campus building.

Art Exhibit “Reflections” on Display at UE’s Peterson Gallery

0

EVANSVILLE, IN (11/02/2022) “Reflections,” an exhibit by Michael Warrick, is currently on display at the University of Evansville’s Melvin Peterson Gallery. The public can stop by during gallery hours now through December 10 and view Warrick’s sculptures.

The Melvin Peterson Gallery, located on the corner of Lincoln and South Weinbach Avenues, is open from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday; and from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

A public reception for Michael Warrick will be held on Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m. The reception will be held in the Melvin Peterson Gallery, and the public is invited to attend. The exhibit and reception are part of the Emerging Contemporary Artist Lecture Series, sponsored by the Efroymson Family Fund and the UE Department of Art.

At the age of 16, Warrick made his first sculpture at a two-week art camp. From there, he studied ceramics at Illinois State University and began building kilns and furnaces for firing clay and bronze work. Warrick then continued his studies at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he received a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture and ceramics. His career has spanned more than three decades in higher education as a professor of sculpture and ceramics. His exhibition record includes more than 40 solo exhibits and over 170 competitive and invitational exhibits.

Warrick considers his artwork both “spiritual and dark in nature.” They are expressive in the way they explore themes of transformation, identity, death, and memory. He uses a variety of materials (e.g. wood, gold leaf, cor-ten steel) and techniques (e.g. wood-fired kiln clay, bronze casting, welded fabrication) to express turning points in life.

BREAKING NEWS: CenterPoint Energy Statement On 1010 N. Weinbach Avenue Investigation

CenterPoint Energy Statement On 1010 N. Weinbach Avenue Investigation

Evansville – Nov. 1, 2022 – Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those affected by the Aug. 10 incident at 1010 N. Weinbach Avenue. We also want to express our appreciation to the Indiana State Fire Marshal, Evansville Fire Department, Evansville Police Department, and all personnel who assisted with the investigation.

Following the incident, CenterPoint Energy conducted various tests on its system and outside the surrounding area in the 1000 block of North Weinbach Avenue, indicating no issues. CenterPoint Energy shared its data and fully cooperated with the Indiana State Fire Marshal and additional agencies in its investigation. The State Fire Marshal’s report released today further supports the company’s findings, determining that an accident inside the house, independent of CenterPoint Energy’s system, was the cause of the incident.

CenterPoint Energy is committed to protecting our employees, contractors, systems, customers, and the public. Our goal is to deliver electricity and natural gas safely to the communities we serve.
