EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team continues MVC play on Sunday with a road trip to Normal, Ill. to take on Illinois State. Kick-off is set for 1 PM at Adelaide Street Field.

Last Time Out
Indiana State struck early on a penalty kick in the 14th minute to take a lead they would never relinquish, downing Evansville by a score of 2-0 on Sunday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

The match was action-packed early, with the Aces and Sycamores combining for six shots in the first 10 and half minutes of play. Isa Valdez (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) put the first shot on goal for Evansville in the eighth minute, while Emma Nathans (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal College) made the night’s first save in the fourth minute.

However, the Sycamores got on the board first, converting on a penalty kick in the 14th minute to take the lead.

Ella McAndrew (Greendale, Ind./Lawrenceburg) tested the Indiana State keeper in the 39th minute, but her shot was saved and the match remained 1-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Allie Lammers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) came on in goal for the Aces and made a terrific save in the 47th minute, getting a foot on a Indiana State shot to parry an attack. Following shots on goal by Brielle LaBerge (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) and Taylor Wehrer (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Oasis), Lammers made another save in the 67th minute. However, Indiana State struck again in the 69th minute to double the lead.

Evansville pushed on the attack for the night’s final 20 minutes, putting up five shots. Perhaps the best scoring chance came in the 82nd minute, but Ella Hamner (Evansville, Ind./Memorial) had her shot saved, and the Aces were shut out for only the third time this season.

Evansville’s 13 shots tied for the team’s second-most in a game this season. Hamner led the team with four, putting two on target, while LaBerge added three shots. Lammers notched a new career-high by making six saves.

Evansville moves to 2-0 in MVC play for first time since 2016

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team moved to 2-0 in MVC play for the first time since 2016 on Saturday night, taking down Western Michigan by a score of 2-0. With the win, the Aces extend their unbeaten streak to six and their winning streak to three. The streak marks Evansville’s first unbeaten streak of six matches in the single season since 2009.

Evansville struck early for the second match in a row, with Tancredi Fadda (Monza, Italy/University of Milan) finding the back of the net with a rocket in the fourth minute for his second goal of the season. The goal came off assists from Nacho Diaz-Caneja (Coruña, Spain/Oregon State) and Andres Escudero (San Sebastián de los Reyes, Spain/IES Joan Miro).

Fadda was active throughout the remainder of the first half, tallying two more shots, but the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

The Purple Aces struck again shortly after the halftime intermission, when Nate Roberts (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS) earned a penalty by drawing a foul in the box in the 50thminute. Martin Wurschmidt (Stavern, Norway/Thor Heyerdahl VGS) stepped to the spot and buried a shot past a diving Broncos keeper to make it 2-0. The penalty goal was Wurschmidt’s second of the season.

From there, the Evansville defense held strong to post their fourth shutout of the season. Michal Mroz (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) made five saves in the final 20 minutes of action to tie his season-high and record his third shutout in a row. Over the last five matches, Mroz has allowed just one goal.

“Obviously, getting an early goal really helps,” said Head Coach Robbe Tarver. “It allowed us to settle into the game a little bit. I don’t remember the last time that we were 2-0 in conference, so that puts us in a really good position to achieve the goal of making the MVC Tournament. That’s the way we are going to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, we have to do that first. To have six points after two games is massive for us.”

“Nothing is done for this season, we need to keep going.”

With the win, Evansville moves to 4-2-5 overall and 2-0 in MVC play, marking the first time the Aces have opened conference play with shutouts of 2-0 or better. Evansville currently sits in first place in the MVC standings as the only team with two wins. UE returns to action on Tuesday for a non-conference match-up at Northwestern. Kick-off is set for 6:30 PM.

IN WORD 120 BY JEROME STEWART, Follow God’s Word

Follow God’s Word… by jerome Stewart

All throughout the Old and New Testament there are many words of wisdom able to help anyone navigate the situational difficulties in this life which is temporal.  The words of the prophet Jeremiah comes to mind in chapter 15 vs. 16 which says; “Your words were found and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.” Before we go any further be advised that He is the exact same God today.

It matters greatly the people we listen to. Strongly consider the meaning of the words of Azariah to Asa in 2nd Chronicles 15 vss. 1 and 2 which says; Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded. And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.”

This country has lost its sense of spirituality. We have turned away from the word of God. We need to turn our life over to Jesus with all deliberate speed. For those who know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we need to rely on His word every day and not the misguided words of those who have a social media platform with millions of followers but no Jesus.

There is no getting around the fact the days are evil. Consider the words of the Apostle Paul to the brethren in Romans chapter 13 vs. 12 which says; “The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light.”  Vs. 14 he says; “Put on the whole armor of Christ and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust.”

The days are truly evil but not everybody is walking in darkness. The disciples of Jesus Christ are to be the light. It just needs to be turned on high beam at times. Memorize the words Jesus said to His disciples over 2,000 years ago because they still hold true today.  John 10 vs. 27, Jesus says; “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me.”

The Apostle Paul warned the brethren at Ephesus that they were not to fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. There needs to be an awareness of the character and motivations of the people we associate with. In seeking to walk in the light of Jesus Christ which is what every child of God should be striving to do, it means to place some distance between those who walk in darkness!

With the upcoming Fall Festival, a Temporary Flight Restriction has been established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA maintains the safety and efficiency of our airspace. In special circumstances, the FAA may temporarily restrict access to certain designated areas of our airspace. In the restricted airspace there are prohibitions on takeoff or landing of remote controlled, unmanned aircrafts or drones for a limited time. Temporary Flight Restrictions are issued for safety or security purposes.

Drones are not to be flown by the general public over any area of the Fall Festival from October 6th through the 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 pm. Should you wish to fly a drone during the Fall Festival, you will have to apply for a waiver. Waivers will need to be submitted through the SGI process, and you must be an existing Part 107 Remote Pilot with a current certificate OR you must have an existing Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA). To submit a waiver you can find more information at: https://www.faa.gov/uas/advanced_operations/emergency_situations.

If approved, the FAA will add an amendment to your existing COA or Remote Pilot Certificate that authorizes the drone operator to fly under certain conditions. If denied, operators should not fly outside the provisions of their existing COA or part 107. Operators have the option to amend their requests.
