USI Women’s Basketball selected for 2025 WNIT
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball has been selected into the 48-team field for the 2025 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The field of teams was announced Sunday night with the official bracket to be revealed on Monday with the official matchups, dates/times, and locations for the opening round.
The Screaming Eagles make their second consecutive appearance in the WNIT after debuting in the 2024 edition after winning the 2023-24 Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships. Last year, USI bested the University of Illinois Chicago at home, 69-64, in the first round. The Screaming Eagles hosted the University of Wisconsin in the second round, falling 67-62.
USI Women’s Basketball (22-12, 12-8 OVC) is coming off a second consecutive OVC tournament berth, making it to at least the semifinal round for the second year in a row. USI won against Tennessee State University in the first round, 90-66, and against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the quarterfinals, 73-52, before an 88-78 loss in the semifinals against eventual OVC tournament champion Tennessee Tech University. Tennessee Tech also won the OVC regular-season championship.
The 2025 WNIT is the 27th edition of the Postseason WNIT, powered by Triple Crown Sports and first held in 1998. The tournament field is made up of automatic qualifiers and at-large programs, flexing a mix of Power 4 conferences as well as ascending mid-major programs. All games are played at individual schools.
The roster of teams reflects the depth and competitive excellence found throughout women’s college basketball and draws from Power 4 notables and ascending mid-major conferences. Games are played at campus locations, helping create unique and electric environments for the women’s game that has led to remarkable record-breaking crowds over the years.
In Southern Indiana’s two WNIT home games last year, USI totaled over 5,000 fans in attendance and averaged over 2,500 between the two contests. USI had 3,283 fans for the game against Wisconsin, setting a new Liberty Arena record for a women’s basketball game.
Here’s the 2025 schedule for each round:
Round 1 – March 20-22, 2025
Round 2 – March 23-25, 2025
Super 16 – March 26-28, 2025
Great 8 – March 29-31, 2025

IS IT TRUE? Monday March 17, 2025
IS IT TRUE that Indiana Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith is promoting a rally today at the Statehouse to support Governor Mike Braun’s property tax reduction plan? …that Braun’s original plan to reduce property taxes was incorporated into SB 1 and that the Senate struck many of the tax savings from the bill? …that what is left is a bill that barely resembles the vision that Mike Braun has for reducing the tax burden on Hoosiers?
IS IT TRUE that the traditional Lt. Governor would leave a public fight like this to the Governor? …that Beckwith is not the stereotypical Lt. Governor? …that Beckwith and Braun have stood shoulder to shoulder on this issue with an unwavering belief that reducing property taxes is the right thing to do? …that Beckwith is standing up today for all of the Hoosiers that are unable to join in the rally at the Statehouse?
IS IT TRUE that Evansville’s State Senators, Jim Tomes and Vaneta Becker have issued a joint statement rejecting the governor’s tax cut plan? …that they believe that the passage of Mike Braun’s tax plan will place an undue burden on cities and towns in SW Indiana?
IS IT TRUE that many local governments have expressed more concern about how to replace revenues instead of looking at what cuts they might make in spending? …that cities and counties are considering an increase in the local option income tax to replace property tax revenue? …that the idea of changing how we tax the same people is like telling thieves they can no longer steal on the North side of the street, so they simply move to the south side?
IS IT TRUE that tax reform will always be a vexing problem?
Hoosier Consumer Alert: Don’t fall victim to ‘smishing’ toll road texts claiming you owe money

Hoosier Consumer Alert: Don’t fall victim to ‘smishing’ toll road texts claiming you owe money
Hoosiers statewide — like our peers across the U.S. — have seen texts pop up on their phones in recent months warning of unpaid fees from toll roads.
In most cases, warns Attorney General Todd Rokita, the texts come from scammers which Indiana Toll Road label as SMS Phishing or “smishing” ruses — and the worst thing you can do is click on any of the seemingly helpful yet sinister links.
“These fraudsters try to create a sense of urgency,” Attorney General Rokita said. “Often, they include triggering phrases like ‘final warning’ or ‘last chance.’ They threaten increased fines or legal penalties if the supposed fees are not promptly paid. The important thing is to pause, take a breath and recognize the red flags.”
Here’s how to protect yourself:
- Don’t respond to spam texts. This allows scammers to know your account is active.
- Never click on any links you receive by text or email. Clicking could enable scammers to steal your identity.
- To find out whether you have outstanding charges, check with tolling agencies by using verified phone numbers or websites that you know are legitimate.
- Report text scams by forwarding them to 7726 (SPAM) or using your phone’s “report junk” option. This helps your wireless provider spot and block similar messages.
- Block numbers from which you’ve received unwanted messages.
- Use restricted phone settings to reduce spam text messages.
- Never share any personal information over text or unsolicited links.
- Put a freeze on your credit to prevent new accounts from being opened in your name in the event of a breach.
