Funding Of New Local Road Projects
Local communities are set to receive over $2.9 million to complete much-needed road projects.
Funding is available through the state’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program and can be used for road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements and other items. In total, 224 towns, cities and counties will receive over $133.4 million in state matching grants.
Area grant recipients include:
- Mount Vernon, $869,652;
- Posey County, $1 million;
- Evansville, $493,462; and
- Vanderburgh County, $590,023.
To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while large communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.27 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

IT HAS RECENTLY BEEN BOUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE VANDERBURGH COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE OF SEVERAL SCAMS THAT ARE CIRCULATING VIA POSTAL MAIL, E-MAIL, AND PHONE CALLS REGARDING PROPERTY TAX NON-PAYMENT. THESE SCAMS ARE THREATENING WITH THE SEIZURE OF PROPERTY, BANK ACCOUNTS, AND FORFEITURE OF ANY BENEFITS YOU MAY BE RECEIVING.

Attorney General Todd Rokita and team win legal battle in effort to protect Hoosiers from sex offenders
Attorney General Todd Rokita and his staff won a federal appeals case this week that will help protect Hoosiers from dangerous predators who have committed sex crimes.
On Thursday, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a constitutional challenge to Indiana’s Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA).
“We’re talking about a law that not only is clearly constitutional but also vital to public safety,†Attorney General Rokita said. “Few priorities are more pressing than protecting women, children and all Hoosiers from sex predators. The court has affirmed the validity of a law rooted in basic common sense and prudent policymaking.â€
Under SORA, sex offenders who have been required to register in another jurisdiction and who live, work or study in Indiana must register as sex offenders. SORA also imposes other public safety requirements to protect children from particularly dangerous predators.
The Seventh Circuit’s decision prevents the sex offenders who challenged SORA from evading its requirements.
Attorney General Rokita thanked his staff for their diligent work on this case — including Deputy Solicitor General James Barta, who presented the state’s oral argument.
“We’re pleased that the court recognized Indiana has a legitimate interest in registering as many sex offenders as it can,” Barta said. “This decision will help state officials protect the public.”
